And have you narrowed any of those theories down yet?

[Alucard's careful to place his bag on the table away from Yennefer's current set up, as to not disturb how she has things arranged. The dhampir slides his own notebook out of the bag, but leaves the rest within for the time being.]

Moreover, are they theories based in the native magic, or have you gotten creative?

Creative sounds promising, at least.

[Alucard's voice does it's best to sound encouraging, and he takes the offered paper carefully. He reads it, considering the theory.]

This one you requires no more effort than finding someone who has been here for over a year and asking about the matter. [He places the paper down, not quite offering it back.] I can offer only one name, but it should confirm or deny the idea.

[There is something else though, and it demands a delicate touch.]

The nature of the curse. How personal is it?

I see. [It's a delicately asked question, and the nature of the response walks that fine line as well. There's so much more he should ask, but perhaps there's only one that matters.]

Forgive me for asking this, as I am sure you've already given it deep thought, but I have to do it all the same. Are the consequences and potential for being worse off than when you started worth it?

[Alucard considers the response. Copmlicated circumstances and the personal nature of this makes it clear that he isn't going to get additional details, and no part of him is inclined to dig. He knows better, and he'd be horrified if someone tried to do the same to him.

It seems to be a reoccurring theme between them though - always carefully avoiding anything especially important or personal.

Alucard nods once.]

And I trust you're confident with that choice. Where shall we pick up the work?
cryptsleeper: (why are you like this)

Not at all, but it is far more dependent on the concept of bonds than a simple matter of equivariant exchange.

[Mucking around with bonds feels like it may be required at this point. A careful means of disturbing balance, but the word wish feels like the crux where all of this hangs. The dhampir pauses, considering.]

Probably the easiest way would be to only have witch bonds, and to spellcast. However, that would require the other parties involved to consent to that potential overload, which may be asking too much.

[There's something Alucard pointedly isn't asking, and that is if there are any bonds in play at the moment. He's always found the question intrusive himself, and so it feels only fair to be respectful of that fact.]
