merrin.
She extends a hand out in front of her and stretches her fingers, trying to feel the magic in them. Whether or not it's the right way to do it is still a mystery, but that's what she's always done... with some success. Usually, it backfired on her in some way.]
I'm not great at this, just so you know.
[But that's why they're here, right?]
vex'ahlia.
That's what Lightning tells herself with every step she takes down the muddy river in the giant rubber boots she was given for the treasure hunting job. They only do so much though, coming up to just below her knees, which are already soaked. The water is thick where she is, and with all of the algae floating on the surface, it's hard to get a good look at the bottom. Thank Etro for the gloves?
So far, she hasn't found anything and neither have the people around her, so she heads further down the river to the Harbour, and that's where she spots a familiar face. Wiping the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand (only to remember that it's soaked in mud water after), she practically wades over to Vex and grabs her attention with a wave.]
She got you too, huh?
[The Merrow woman, she means.]
Who buries their stuff in a river anyway?

Thigh high waders aren't fashionable, and honestly, barely functional. Grimacing as her feet squelch, her attention is easily pulled up by a familiar voice.
And Lightning gets a blink, and a arch of a brow. ]
Not quite the treasure hunt I had in mind. [rueful] I've seen weirder, though. Knowing our luck, it may well have been swept further downstream.

Hmmm.]
At that point, might as well give up. It'll be long gone if it got anywhere past the harbour.
[The Merrow woman did insist that she had buried it safely though... but she's hesitant to trust the word of someone who would do that in the first place.]
Made it all the way here from the inner city with nothing. These jewels or whatever better be worth it.

Vex doesn't seem to have noticed, or, in the very least, isn't making too much fuss about them; instead, she offers an arm, in case Lightning needs a bit of extra balance moving through the slop and clinging mud. ]
Possibly. But you'd be surprised how much debris can end up caught before the waters flow out that way. [a snort follows] But her directions left much to be desired.
I can't help but think she likely buried things further out, but I don't fancy dunking myself any further into the river.

One of us is gonna have to take a dunk in here sooner or later to dig for it. You up to it? 'Cause I'm not.
[She would never let Vex go alone, though. If one of them is going under, so is the other...]

I'm really not. [getting mud out of all that hair? Not a fun proposition] Although...
[she turns with care, looking towards the bank, where her faithful bear sits and watches.]

Who gave him permission to sit around and watch? [A rhetorical question, and a joke, because she continues on without expecting an answer.] You really think he'd wanna put himself through all that?
[She wouldn't say no...]
