[She just stares, wings giving another lazy flick.]

I don't know who it was... [She does her best attempt at a shrug while in the water, dipping under for a moment.] I just heard them and it felt like I should hide...It feels silly now.

[Silly enough to get a frown. Why had she jumped? There'd been that urge to hide, remain hidden. But why?]

It isn't silly to trust your instincts.

[He pats her shoulder with one clawed hand, trying to be reassuring.]

You have those for a reason, after all.

[Tapping his chin with his other hand, he looks up at the sky. Not that he can see anything.]

The water isn't too cold. Maybe you could stay in here for a little while.

[Connor, Connor please she's paddling. Dipping again with the shoulder pat.] I was going to. I'd come here to try and fly.

[Then when she crashed, she'd have a soft landing...As long as she didn't land on anyone else.]

[Connor hums to himself, a soft "hmm" before he dips back under the water properly again.]

Is it hard to swim with these?

[He swims behind her, touching one of the wings.]

[BZZT-! Mind the splashing as the wings gave another burst, tossing the fae up, only just clearing the water before she plopped back down and under. Her head surfacing again a few seconds later.

...No. It's been easier than normal. [For giving her a burst of speed and helping her stay afloat for air.] Why? Is it normally more difficult?

[Oh, okay. He won't touch those again, probably.]

I'm not sure, I've never had wings.

[He gives her a smile as he surfaces again.]

Also, why aren't you wearing a shirt?

[Yes, he only noticed when he was under the water.]

[They give another flicker, trying to get rid of an annoying bit of water. And come on Connor, she was wearing her sports bra as she paddled. She wasn't completely indecent.

...Still would have gotten arrested in a world where people went monsters. And pants were not an issue.]

So I can swim...You're not supposed to swim in boots and baggy clothes. They get caught. [Though she had just yeeted herself with her boots and trousers when suprised.]

True, but you're still in your pants... and shoes.

[He isn't suggesting she take them off, he's just a bit confused.]

Well, as long as you can swim fine now.

I didn't have time. I heard someone getting close.

[But she was fine. Her wings giving a flicker whenever she dipped or wanted to move forward.] I'm okay. The wings make it easier.

[They really did, as odd as it sounded. When she started sinking, they could compensate. When she wanted to move quicker than she could swim, they could give her that little burst of speed. Which is exactly what she does. Speeding away a little. Spinning around once she was away.]

How do you swim? Aren't you heavy? [Mettaton was heavy. Even if she could lift him.]

I weigh about as much as a regular human. My tail is heavy when I'm in this form, though.

[It's a big tail made of muscle, after all.]

But I can swim because I'm a fish, essentially.

[He turns and flashes his fins at Mikasa. The display is usually reserved for courting purposes, but he's just trying to show her his tail this time.]

Oh...You probably weigh less than me then. Without the tail. [She was heavy. Though some of that weight had been lost in recent months, along with height. She might have been a little bitter about it.

But the fins get her attention. Shiny and big!? Her wings spread out, the myriad of colours flicking through. She too, is big and scary.-!

Then she's dipping under again, because she paused to be 'threatening'...while in water and not on something stable.]

[Her colours are, sadly, lost on Connor, though he does hear the display even if he doesn't see it. He gives her a confused smile, wondering what she's doing, before moving under the water to get a look.

Did something spook her, or is this just what they're doing now?]

Are you okay?

[He catches her as she dips under the water, lifting her back up again.]

Your wings are very pretty.

[There wasn't much to see with the colours. Sure they could change, flickering through like stained glass. With the slight shimmer of fae dust. But ultimately, they were dull. Lacking the magic of a bond to be bright and bold.

Though the hissing did cut off when she went under, replaced with coughing once she was hauled back up. The wings giving a wave to dry themselves. Antenna writhing and poking at Connor, oh right...They'd been talking.]

I'm... I'm fine. [Just wheezing a bit as she cleared her lungs.] Are they? I'm not really able to see them.

[Still holding onto her just incase, Connor nods earnestly.]

What I saw of them was pretty, yes. They're very... ethereal.

[That seems like the best way to describe them. Pale and shimmering, otherworldly. An antenna pokes Connor in the cheek, and he moves his head to the side a little to avoid it.]

[By nature, Mikasa wasn't a lazy person. But this was fine, she hadn't exactly been aiming to swim in the first place... It. She still wasn't sure what had spurred her. That she should fly above the water's surface, make people see things that weren't there. Have a soft landing.

While she wasn't being a bother, she was getting to learn about the new limbs on her back. ethereal? That was a good word wasn't it? Something special enough to not be possible. She didn't like the idea of being special, not normally. Nothing good had ever come of it before.

It takes her a moment. Thinking about it.]

...Like your tail? [Yes, his tail was pretty too, all blues, reds and oranges that seemed to shift as it rippled. They were all special.]

Maybe... it is a nice tail, isn't it?

[Is it conceited to say that? He doesn't think so. It is a fine tail.]

I happen to enjoy my Monster changes a lot. I hope you enjoy yours, too. We're stuck with them, so we should make the best of them.

It's colourful...[And one of those pearlescent, chitin covered arm is reaching out. Like a cat, she's batting at a fin as it drifted in the water. Probably missing, the water distorting her aim.]

The best of them..? [Her wings gave another small flicker. Splashing water.] I'm not sure how...The wings are okay.

[But she couldn't touch her gear anymore.]

Wings would have been nice, or even being a Witch, but... I am what I am.

[And for what it's worth, the ocean is a beautiful place with many hiding places, and pretty trinkets.]

What can you do as a Fae? What do you like about it?

They'd be more useful if I...could use them. ['Didn't weigh more than men a foot taller'. But for now her feeble wings could only really be used to fling herself around. Sustained flying would have to wait.]

I'm not sure. I can make barriers...But it's a pain to set them up. I was told that was rare though.

[...That was not a thing she liked. That was just a Thing. But she's thinking.]

Well, barriers are good... I'm sure they'll come in useful one day. What else?

[He's trying to encourage her to see the good things about her transformation. It would be miserable to be stuck here hating it, right?]

That's it. Just silence as those large black bug eyes stare at him. Just kinda, flopping on his tail like it was a floatie.]

Uh... [What else was there???

...Really this silence was probably pretty depressing.]

I'm sure there's more than that.

[He says it chidingly, tilting his head.]

Fae must be capable of more than just barriers. You can cast illusion magic, can't you?

[He's been on the receiving end of that before.]

[She's nodding.] I don't know how. And I'm too tired to work it out.

[She lacked the magic to do anything. She'd only managed to make the weakest of fairy rings, it was still better than most apparently, but they'd still be torn through like paper. Then her wings give a buzz, like a little propeller to shove him along in the water.

Yes...Mischef. The most minor and lazy of mischefies though.]
