[She'd be waiting for a while. Not because the fae had left. But because she was preoccupied with working out how she'd landed in the water, why were her feet wet...It was a strange feeling through her chitin. Not as uncomfortable as having a wet sock on skin or unpleasant. Just strange.

Then the feet pull back, going back to shore, not leaving though.

A thud as boots leave feet, a...wet slapping noise as the damp socks are slung off onto a branch.

Then a pair of bare feet...bare exoskeleton feet enter the water, the chitin spreading on up into rolled-up trousers.

...

...Wiggles toes.]

[ Some smaller fish dare to venture upwards once the intruder settles, curious once the familiar scent of an insect spreads. It didn’t look like the usual bugs, but the wiggling was still enticing enough. Some try to take a nibble, which feels more like little bumps against Mikasa’s toes.

But then something grips bother of her ankles lightly, the glow of two blue eyes piercing through just beneath the surface of the water before her head breaches through. ]

You should be more careful at night.

[ Alex looks different from their time in her memory, Darkened sclera, velvety black scales more prominent on her face and covering her arms and hands, and of course, the large tail beneath the water. Her eyes show some recognition as she stares up at the other woman’s face. ]

We’ve met...haven’t we?

[The moment something touches her feet, even if it was just small little fish. The fae's wings were buzzing lifting her out of the water. Her legs breaking free as she just goes straight up.

Ah, the perks of wings like her's. She didn't need any build-up to take off, she could just go in little bursts. Granted she still hadn't gotten the hang of flying was hung in the air, legs dangling as she leaned her head down to see.

Mikasa had changed as well. Eyes shifting to solid black compound, magenta markings that shimmered, limbs fully covered in chitin. At least her hair and scar gave her away.]

You...[The eyes narrow.] The woman from the mirror dream?

[Had they given names? It was so long ago, the fae was in a daze from finally being able to fly that it didn't seem important.]

[ Light as her grip already was, Alex let's the fae slide from her grasp. It seems she had changed much since then, but the voice she recognized. ]

Alex. I..have wanted to apologize to you since then. Ah--

[ She shakes her head. ]

Mostly..I wanted to thank you. I know that was an awkward situation. But it was kind of you to try and help me. Have you been well since then?

[There she hovers, above the water. Body almost hanging limp where her wings suspended her.]

I have...What about you? Were you okay afterwards? [Some people were pretty shaken up after the dreams after all. Mikasa had been, though nothing to private to her had been shown. That she'd known of.]

[ Alex's gaze lowers, but she looks back up at Mikasa with a small smile. ]

I am. I'm used to seeing all that.

[ The nightmares never really went away, and Barry remained around her even now. ]

It was really just...having other people see it. But, no one has treated me poorly for it.

[ Something she would forever be grateful for. ]

So if I can make it up to you somehow...

[The fae keeps herself suspended, the occasional small glittery scale falling down from the rapid movement of her wings. There's a small noncommital noise from Mikasa.

That was good, that people still treated her the same. It wasn't her that deserved mistreatment for...what had happened.

Though the second comment makes her ebb. Antenna flicking forward, tips twitching as large black eyes stared without blinking.]

Make it up to me..? [For the life of her, Mikasa couldn't think of anything reason for that.] Why?

I don't... [ want to regret again. ]

I want to make sure I thank people while I can.

[ Mikasa may not think she did much, but small acts of kindness meant the world to Alex. ]

Though maybe not in this form...I'm more likely to have to apologize afterwards.

[ The merrow never knew what she would do while she was in the water. Urges were a terrifying thing. ]

You really should be careful though. Other merrows might not let go.

['While I can'...That's enough for her to understand. At least a little bit. Because with how this place worked, people could just vanish overnight.

Death was similar, but not the same.]

Why would you- [Well...That's making her flit a bit higher. Then heading towards the bank, slowly. But surely. Even so, she grunts.] They'd lose a few teeth then.
