[ It is useful, in the days leading up to the full moon, for Reynir to have something to plan and look forward to. Any time he catches himself starting to feel nervous and dwelling on his lack of control over his own life, he redirects his thoughts to Bailey's offer to spend the full moon with him. They are going to be his first visitor to the cottage, and so Reynir uses up much of his nervous energy cleaning and decorating and getting it looking as nice as he can.
He had had plans to introduce Bailey and Onni to one another (assuming, for some reason, that they would certainly not have met any other way...), but that evening, before Bailey is even set to arrive, Reynir sees that Onni has passed out in his room, sleeping like a log. It doesn't surprise him all that much, given what he's heard about the full moon - how it can make witches weaker, not just magically but physically, too. Onni has been running himself ragged for... well, a VERY long time. So, quietly, Reynir shuts the door to his room and lets him keep sleeping. Bailey can always meet him another day.
He is particularly glad, then, knowing that company is going to be coming; Bailey hadn't been kidding about that uptick in restless energy, and by the time there's a knock at the door, Reynir his fidgeting, barely able to stay still for more than a few seconds.
Opening the door, he greets: ]
Hey, hi, come in!
let's pretend i didn't fail to tag this for as long as it's been
[Each full moon seems to get progressively more... Well, just more. The first full moon they spent in Aefenglom, it had surprised them, how differently they had felt during it. They hadn't had time to dwell on how it felt, though, what with Sylvia deciding to run off and worry everyone. The ones after that had been much more lowkey, but...
It's kind of nice, to get out of the house. Bailey likes their roommates well enough, but... Well. Bailey feels like they have to be responsible for them, which is completely irrational and they know it. Granted, they also feel like they should try to be responsible for Reynir as well, but...
He doesn't know what they were like at home, like Sylvia does. He has no frame of reference for what they were like, so maybe it's okay if Bailey lets theirself relax and just go with the flow for once in their life. They're sure Reynir won't judge them.]
Hi!
[They seem much more energetic than when they met at the cafe, bright eyed and perky. Not quite exuberant, but still more vibrant then previously.]
[ Reynir does notice that they seem to be in a brighter mood. And there are a few other little changes - maybe he is just looking out for signs of the moon's influence, or maybe Bailey really does look more... faun-y than they had the last time Reynir saw them. ]
My, um-
[ A brief pause as Reynir tries to pick what word to use. Friend? Best friend? Roommate? The guy he's going to bond with? It's so complicated. Best to skip it entirely. ]
- Onni's back in his room, I was gonna introduce you two but he's actually super wiped out and I think he's asleep already. Probably the full moon, just, sort of opposite, since he's a witch. But it's good, honestly, he doesn't rest enough, I worry about him so much, so it's actually great and I'm just gonna let him sleep. I've got snacks!
[ He gestures, unnecessarily, at the little coffee table and its huge array of crudités and jams and breads and cheeses. ]
[Bailey looks around the house curiously, taking it all in. It feels very homey, and they're not sure if it's because of Reynir's presence or not.
They definitely appreciate the snacks, and head over to the table to investigate more closely.]
Oh... I think I've met him before, actually. I hope he's feeling okay with all of this! I think full moons might get easier, but it might also depend on how you handle things on the day to day...
[Their conversation was brief, but they definitely got the feeling that Onni is the sort to put his needs last. Military types tended to do that, in their experience.]
Should we try being quiet? D'you think we'll wake him up...?
[ Maybe it's just the influence of the full moon, but Reynir is elated, knowing Onni is going out and meeting people and making connections. Even if it had been just a casual introduction, it's better than Onni all by himself, making his way through the Silent World, on his own, getting more and more isolated, feeling like his life wasn't connected to other peoples'... ]
He seems... okay. Not always easy to tell with Onni, but I'm keeping an eye out. Don't worry about waking him up, though. He's a really sound sleeper when he knows he's somewhere safe.
[ Which is a perfectly sensible way of putting it, when you are Reynir, and perhaps unduly ominous sounding, when you lack context the way Bailey does.
Reynir bounces a little where he's sitting, unable to stop himself smiling now that Bailey is here. ]
You seriously weren't kidding about all that extra energy, I feel like I could run laps around the city and not get tired. It's nice to have somebody here to talk to, though. I know some games we can play and we can talk and- and if anything changes physically because of the full moon it'll be okay because you'll be changing too and I'm not gonna fight it or freak out about it like I probably would if I was on my own-
[ Reynir can hear the breathlessness in his own voice, the way he's blurting out his thoughts without filter, but he doesn't clam up, try to stop himself the way he normally might after a little while. Everyone had said how important it was not to resist the influence of the full moon, and so he's trying. ]
And I wanna get to know you better and get to be friends and I'm really really glad you are here.
[ With that, he crunches into a carrot, delightedly. ]
We've only met the once so far, but... Yeah. He seems nice?
[If a bit... Practical. Still, you can't judge someone on first impressions, and maybe Onni is a sweetheart underneath all of that.
Their brow furrows a bit at the mention of somewhere safe, but they nod along like, yes, that's perfectly reasonable.]
I'm glad he feels safe here.
[They pick an apple from the pile of snacks, perching on the arm of the couch like a complete hooligan. There's a smile on their face at the way Reynir babbles, but they find theirself bobbing their head along with it. They're not surprised by it, and they can follow what he's saying well enough.
They are a bit surprised by Reynir saying he wants to get to know him better and be their friend, and they blink at him stupidly for a moment.]
Uh... Of course! That'd be great. [And they mean that sincerely.] You can ask me anything you wanna know.
