[What kind of a world was she from?!
But that was the last thing on his mind as the kitten suddenly teleported to the roof. Great... wonderful place for a tiny cat that could literally jump anywhere it wanted within reason.
He nodded, putting his hands out to help boost her up to the roof so that she could try and get the kitten to come back down. Hopefully, that would be what it did]

[ said very cheerily, like it's a completely normal thing for her.. even if she gets why he'd be surprised. but then — wei wuxian hadn't been, at all, so maybe they have... different expectations?
oh well!
she hops on his hand and quickly pulls herself onto the roof; it's rather clear she's used to things like this, with the ease she does it with.
and lucky! the kitten hasn't gone anywhere. as soon as she's on the roof, she gestures to him to go round the house, to the street that turns towards the harbor, whereas she starts moving closer to the kitten, in an angle —
so that when it teleports again, as nami goes within the range, it's neatly over to the middle of the street, again.
grinning, nami jumps down from the roof. ] Yes! And the harbor should be right over there! [ pointing down the street. ] You keep an eye on the kitten, I'll go get us some fish!

He watched as she pulled herself up on the roof, making sure first that she wasn't going to fall before moving back to still be able to see her. He followed her directions, heading around the spot she indicated and soon there was a kitten on the street again]
Will do.
[And he was just... going to stand there and look at the cat. When it looked at him and made a sound in his direction, he finally said]
Hello.
no subject
it's a bit of a demanding meow, too.
but clearly she's not expecting a response as she suddenly starts grooming her paw...
at this point, nami comes back, slowing down when she notices the kitten just sitting there. she stops next to jiang cheng, holding up a bag full of small fish — the kind that's used as a bait more than anything that could be eaten, but probably still good enough for their purpose. ]
Oh, she seems to like you more than me! She didn't stop at all when it was just me chasing her... maybe it should be you giving her these, too.
no subject
He looked over as she came jogging up to him]
You think? I can give it a try.
[He honestly wasn't sure if a cat would like him or not. He'd had dogs as a kid, but he took the bag of fish when she offered it, pulling one out and kneeling down with it and trying to get the cat's attention with faint, random noises]

[ and then she's just stepping back, standing entirely still as not to scare the kitten away. perhaps that's the thing — her energy is rather high, at all times, and cats do sense that kind of thing...
so when jiang cheng waves the fish at the kitten, otherwise calm, it seems to work. the kitten watches the fish for a moment, eyes sharp, and then starts trodding closer.
slowly........ slowly..........
until she stops just a few feet away, wiggles her butt, and pounces on the fish. clearly she seems happy with her catch, too.
nami cheers silently and whisper-shouts, ] Great! Now, catch her!
no subject
So this seemed to be working.
And then she pounced on the fish, rather happy with it.
And Jiang Cheng was rather happy to scoop the kitten up, holding both her and the fish so she could keep chewing on the fish and be distracted from wanting to teleport away.
He stood back up with her in his arms]
Quite the feisty little thing.

[ it's a cheer that's half enthusiasm, half relief, and then there's a blur of orange as nami runs over to jiang cheng and throws her arms around him in a brief hug.
then, pulling back, she crouches down so she can look at the kitten better. ]
You gave us a lot of trouble, hm? You little troublemaker! [ the kitten, supremely unconcerned, keeps on chewing on the fish. ]
no subject
He smiled as Nami came over and hugged him for catching the kitten]
She is quite a troublemaker. A mind of her own.
[Honestly, he hadn't been expecting to get a cat... but he rather liked animals who had some spunk. She might have found a home]
no subject
[ and because he seems rather enchanted by the little thing... nami smiles. it's all very cute. ]
You know, I think the advertisement that asked us to catch the kittens also said that they'll need homes, eventually. I was going to take this one back and let them find her a place... but what if she goes to someone who doesn't know to appreciate her independent mind? Wouldn't that be sad?
[ whatever could be done to stop that?????
it's a mystery ]
no subject
He considered that for a moment after she spoke]
That would be. She has a lot of spunk for such a small animal, leading us this far across the city.
[As the kitten started chewing on the fish in earnest, he could now reach over and scratch her behind the head]
Not everyone can appreciate that in an animal.
[After a beat]
I certainly can.
no subject
[ some people would just want a little obedient pet who didn't think at all... how boring!
at that last comment, nami bites her lip to stop herself from smiling too widely. ]
That's true... and you said you wouldn't mind having an animal as a companion here, right? She'd make a great one! Especially as I think she could probably be trained to teleport on command, they said the grown cats can do that! So she'll need someone who's good at training animals, too.
no subject
That is true. I wouldn't mind having a companion here. I have never cared for a cat before, but I'm sure I can figure it out.
[Yes, it was pretty much guaranteed]
no subject
[ says the one who's never had a pet..... but look it can't be that difficult! surely?
quickly, she pulls up her watch, and snap! takes a picture. ] There — as long as we provide them with evidence that we caught her, we don't actually have to take her back. You can take her home straight away.
no subject
He had been looking down at the cat when she snapped the picture with her watch, glancing up after she did]
Good. Then I will do that.
no subject
[ she laughs a little, crouching down so she's eye-level with the kitten, scratching her under the chin. the kitten decides to purr just a little louder, and nami grins. ]
She's so cute... I'll have to come and see how you're doing with her, once you've got her all settled in! [ maybe someone else might ask if that's okay.... nami just lets him know it's going to happen. oops. ]
no subject
[Happy to help? Was he really? As he looked at the cat in his arms, he concluded - yes he was,
The kitten, his kitten was definitely very happy now. Hopefully, she wouldn't go teleporting out of his arms. Sure he had fish now, but he still didn't want to chase her down]
She is. I will let you know once she is so you can see her.
[Now, he just needs to think of a name for her]
no subject
[ then, turning around, ] I have to get back now, to get them the proof we caught her.
Take good care of her! [ that's her parting line, and then with a cheery wave she starts to walk away. ]
no subject
Now to get home without having this cat teleport again...]
