[ closed ] searching for home
Who: Yona, Chise, Oscar
When: early July/Juril
Where: Yona's Cottage
What: She'd been looking for some roommates - and found it was an easier search than she'd anticipated.
Warnings: n/a
[ Yona's had a month to work on the little cottage she'd claimed for herself. it's quite an improvement over how she'd found it, even though there's a long way to go. Most of the rooms have been dusted and scrubbed. A few have a fresh coat of paint. It had given her a chance to try out several new little spells and cantrips when it came to maintaining the place and had been a place to practice new things over the past few weeks - both magic and otherwise.
Yona's never had a house of her own before. Nothing she's had to keep and maintain and tidy. This is... well, it's a very new experience for her. And while there had certainly been some mishaps and mistakes along the way, she's rather proud of how it's shaping up. It's still going to need some work, and she's barely touched the gardens and lawn outside the place, but it's a start.
Which was why she'd finally felt brave enough to reach out for some potential roommates. This place had several rooms free and she didn't take up that much space. Besides, she was so used to sharing a single tent with several bodies that roaming around this place on just her own was a little... lonely. She'd been worried about who would respond, but the two who had already had her delighted in having them as new housemates.
Which should be starting shortly, as she gathers together some drinks and snacks while she waits for the pair to arrive to see the place and meet each other. She's bustling around the kitchen - mostly to keep busy so she doesn't get too nervous - and listens for the doof. ]

Seeing Yona again is, admittedly, an extra reason for him to be a little nervous, after how weird he was acting after the circus's last show, weirder than even he usually is. But she'd been so kind, both when they first met and when he responded to her listing, and this is a good opportunity to apologize, too.
It isn't hard to find his way there, and after spending a good minute admiring the outside of the cottage, almost entranced by how homier it is than what he'd gotten accustomed to in Atlas, he tries to knock. 'Tries' is the key word, because his hands are full with a pan of freshly-baked banana bread, so he's attempting to knock using his feet. ]
Hello...? I mean— hello...!

nervesexcitement? No, certainly not. But she breaks into a smile as she swings open the door and sees him there. And then spots what he carries. ]Hello again! Welcome, come in, come in. Oh, that looks lovely! You didn't have to bring anything with you, you know.

Oh... I didn't know, actually. [ He chuckles awkwardly. ] But I wanted to, too. I hope it'll taste good, and thank you.

[ She gives him a bright smile and waves him into the kitchen, where the table is already laid out with a pot of fresh tea and a little plate of sakura cookies she'd picked up at the Circus before it left town. ]
You can just set it down here, if you like? I believe Chise will be stopping by today, as well - she's the other person who may be staying here. Ah, if you both think this might be somewhere you'd like to stay, that is. [ She gestures around her at the room. The kitchen, at least, has seen some of the most work in this place to be comfortable and livable. ] I know there's still a lot of work to be done, but...

Everything I've seen looks nice. [ Though it's not perfect, that's a form of being nice on its own. ] But I'd be happy to help make it nicer — I used to live in a barn, so I don't mind having to put in some elbow grease.

[ That's clearly not a downside. In fact, she sounds a little fascinated. ]

Yeah. My aunt owns a farm, and I helped her run it after she took me in when I was little.

[ It's far different than her own childhood - which gave her very little practical knowledge, in fact. But she is very good at understanding people. And politics, to her chagrin. But Yoon has long been trying to give her a more prcatical knowledge since meeting him. At least she won't starve outside the palace walls now... ]

There were parts of that life I didn't like, but it comes in handy sometimes. [ The skills he picked up then are the ones he's offering here, after all. ] I think... I can appreciate it more now than I used to.

Isn't that how it always goes? Hindsight and all that, isn't it? We never quite appreciate the things we're fortunate to have, until we leave them behind and miss them.

It's a mistake I'm trying not to make again, at least.
[ But it'd be hard to miss that she, too, is speaking from experience, and his expression falls a bit, wondering if what she misses is familiar faces from home or something that was lost even prior to coming here. While he doesn't want to ask anything she might not wish to answer, he also doesn't want to let it pass without acknowledgement. ]
I'm sorry you've been through that.

Thank you. I'm sorry you have as well. Although I can't say I'm sorry for the perspective such experience has granted me. I think I'd rather understand such a thing so I can appreciate what I know now, rather than to have continued to live on obliviously.
[ A pause, before she gives a slightly sheepish laugh at herself. ] Not something everyone would agree with, I know. but I'm still grateful all the same.
