a. roommate introductions [ Tieria hasn't had to introduce himself to a new group of people since he was born. This is not an exaggeration, given he came into the world fully formed and joined his current team only shortly after. He never thought he'd have to get used to living with other people ever again. His place was with Celestial Being... This? This is not where he belongs.
And he's still standing in the living room, faced with the expectant eyes of the extant tenants of this house. This is just for convenience. Tieria needs a place to stay and single apartments are getting to be more and more rare, it seems, as the town fills with mirrorbound. And he's never lived alone before. It's all just... strange.
So here he is, all serious in his expression, standing in front of the group. ]
My name is Tieria Erde and I'm from the year 2307 AD on Earth. I'll be moving into one of the vacant rooms starting today. I have been told I'll become a monster of an unspecified type, but I'm a quiet and orderly roommate, you will find. Thank you for having me.
[ Talk about stiff... ]
b. library [ Tieria's exploring every part of the common rooms to get his bearings around the mansion, but the library - or what looks like it could be a library - is what really draws his attention. Though there is a good number of books, there's so much empty shelf space....
You can find Tieria browsing through what is there, and if any of his roommates enter, he'll even look up and approach them: ]
Are there any plans to expand this collection?
c. wildcard [ Experience the Tieria Roommate Life anywhere and any way you want. Come to his room! Meet him in the kitchen! Break down the door as he's in the bath! I don't know, your options are limitless. ]
[ sylvia enters the room, fully intending on pulling out a book she borrowed from the library on monster changes. she wants to reference something about the puca in particular, for obvious reasons. but she sees her new roommate there first, and his question gives her pause. ]
Not that I know of. Actually, this is the first time I've seen a library like this in a house!
[ huh! isn't that peculiar, considering she lives here? ]
If you wanna add books, be my guest. I wouldn't mind helping out, either!
[ Tieria wants to make a decent enough impression on his new housemates that they won't instantly regret letting him move him, but he is also not entirely sure how to do that. Normal cohabitation is absolutely foreign territory.
His voice is accordingly dry and impersonal. ]
It's good to have a wealth of information available, especially in a world in which it is harder to obtain than I am used to.
Oh yeah. I'm guessing you know what the internet is, right? 'Cuz that's where I always went whenever I had to look up stuff.
[ a shrug, then: ] But, you know. Everything's old-fashioned here, you'll get used to it over time.
[ she moves over to the shelf next to the one he's looking at. there's her small collection of books on monsters specifically. there are two or three books on puca and one on every kind of monster in aefenglom. ]
Have you figured out if you're a Witch yet, or...? I don't think I ever got to ask!
[ she'd rather not say he's a monster. some people don't like that, understandably so. ]
[ Tieria gives a nod at the internet question, a little relieved that she's also aware of it. The internet should be self-explanatory to people! This is not something he ever thought he felt strongly about, but life holds many surprises. ]
Unfortunately. The test did not detect magic in me, so it appears unlikely I'm a Witch.
[ The test might still be wrong! He knows it's not likely to be wrong but hope springs eternal. ]
That's as far as I am in the discovery process. I was told that giving a vampire my blood might help identify my species, but not how that works, so... it seems a little ill-advised.
[The oldest of the residents stands up from her chair and bows. She looks to be in her 30s, but instead of human legs, she had fox legs and a long but muscular crocodile tail.]
It's a pleasure to meet you, Tieria. I'm Saori Nakagawa, also from a version of Earth. I'm not sure if you were told before arriving, but all of us are different monster species. As you can see, I'm a chimera--red fox and a species of crocodile I haven't been able to confirm yet. Please don't ever hesitate to ask us if you have questions about the city or even outside of the borders.
[ He's trying to hard to not be rude by staring at that completely bizarre combination of animal traits, but he's also failing this battle. This is an affront against genetics, he's going to need a moment or three until he can deal with it. ]
Thank you, it's much appreciated. My Earth is very different from this place - magic is not something we have ever confirmed to be real. This is all very foreign.
[ .... ]
Are these animal traits purely decorative or do they impact you on a deeper level? Reptile and mammal traits seem like a strange mix.
[She doesn't seem offended by the staring or the questions at all. It's been a few months since she arrived in this world, so she's learned to get used to the stares and whispers from the locals. ]
Oh yeah, it is a really odd combo. These traits look decorative, but they still function like the real thing. There have been some mental changes as well. Sometimes the predatory nature of the two can be hard for me to ignore for example.
I suppose the silver lining with the changes when you're a monster is it doesn't happen overnight. They gradually happen over time, but when it's the full moon, things may escalate.
Combining a cold-blooded and a warm-blooded circulatory system like this shouldn't even be possible.
[ It evidently is, considering he's looking right at the combination of body parts, but also wow. What even. ]
I've heard about the full moon and I can't say I'm looking forward to it. Has anyone worked on something like charms or whatever magic may use to keep it at bay?
[ if the sound of awe in his voice isn't enough, the dazzled look in jongdae's eyes probably make his thoughts on things much clearer. before tieria introduced himself jongdae was just laying in a chair — yes, laying, because he's seated sideways with his shoulders propped up against one arm and his knees hooked over the other — looking curious. ]
That's like way in the future! I'm not gonna ask you if the cars fly, I can't drive so I don't care if the cars fly. Do you have like.. the VR where you can plug in and actually like be in the game? Because that's so awesome. I cannot believe the Earth survives that long. That's really encouraging stuff..
[ he pauses for a beat (and a breath) and then remembers the thing he didn't do yet. ]
Oh! And I'm Jongdae. I'm a monster too, like everyone else who lives here. So you'll fit in with everyone just fine.
[ This reaction is still really strange to Tieria. To him, the 24th century has always been the only world he knew at all - his reality being seen as futuristic and an object of marvel rather than a flawed present that needs desperate reform...? Strange. Unsettling, even. ]
... no. There's no VR realities in which you can simulate the full experience of being physically present. VR technology as such has developed immensely in the past two centuries, so the visual and auditive experience is supposed to be very compelling, but that's the end of it.
And don't be too encouraged. The Earth is as war-torn as ever.
[After being picked up from in front of the housing board, Yoosung is being showed around this mansion by Sylvia. He looks pretty impressed by the place, gazing all around him at the ornate wallpapers and glittering chandeliers. There's a blue bag slung over his shoulder, which seems to have the only possessions he came in with. Any roommates who happen to be around can feel free to catch him to make an introduction... he's expecting it to be kinda casual given the situation where Jongdae sends Sylvia to look for him, making him think the others might know too.]
Settling in [Since by this point he's decided for sure that he's staying here, he drops his bag off in an unclaimed bedroom. Now, he's all moved in...
A heavy sigh follows that thought. This really isn't what he would bring if he knew he was going to move... however nice this place is, he already wishes he was home. He fishes his cell phone out of it and flops down on the bed with it, poking at the RFA messenger for its gallery function. The charge will drain away little by little no matter how he'd try to save it. It follows he should try to preserve what he can on the watch. So he'll be here for a while, pointing it at his screen and taking as many pictures as he can to clutter up his notes and drafts with. ...And what the heck, he'll take some of videos of their stickers. Seeing them cheers him up. Until Yoosung's charge is dead, he'll keep picking things to record.
Once he's satisfied with the amount of data he was able to back up, it's evening and Yoosung is starving. Catch him up in the kitchen area, hovering around the Victorian Icebox and waving over the first roommate he sees. Valiantly ignoring his growling stomach.]
Hey, sorry to ask but could you teach me about the stuff in the kitchen? I have no idea how old appliances work, but I'd like to cook for everyone if I can.
Getting to work (cw spiders)
[The first stretch of days with Yoosung living here, he probably kept to himself trying to hide being a depressed lump and just lurking on the network. Eventually though, he gets restless and decides it's time to earn his keep. The ballroom looks like it's very unused... stepping in there for a moment, he lingers wistfully as he thinks about the party that was supposed to be planned and he's missing. It's sad to see, so even if he has no real idea what to do with a room like this as it seems the others do... he should be the one to fix it up. If he gets rid of all the cobwebs, this might be a pretty good to hang out and play party games or something.
Trouble is, he's kind of short and these ceilings are high. He manages to swat a few lower ones down by jumping, but there's still some pesky ones in the corner. He might have to steal some furniture for this. ...Before he can though, a fairly harmless spider drops down right in front of his face, making him yell.]
[ the ballroom is very empty, and like yoosung, sylvia does think of it as a good hangout spot for the future. but it does need a little bit of cleaning, and coincidentally, the two of them have the same idea. she comes into the room with a broom and dustpan, and suddenly she hears a yell coming from one of the back corners. ]
Hah?!
[ she runs over and sees...no one other than one of their new roomies. oh no. ]
[Where did it go, anyway? He was just swatting at webs with a duster that was buried in some assumed servant quarters part of the mansion and after flailing it around, the spider was likely as spooked as he was.]
But man, the echo in here is pretty loud. I heard myself just now... sorry to worry you!
[ as usual, it's not until much later in the day that jongdae finally makes an appearance. the sun feels weird on his skin and makes his eyes ache but it's not actively dangerous right now so he could have ventured out during the day but it's much harder to ignore the fact that he ends up getting sleepy.
he emerges looking like someone who had a wild night and is still regretting it. his hair is sticking up weirdly on one side and he looks pale and exhausted despite the fact that he's clearly slept at least a little bit. just not much to do about dark circles to this extent.
heading to the kitchen because he's thirsty — thankfully, not for blood right now — he gets himself some water to sip on while he tries to decide what he wants to do next.
this is peak levels of unbothered because he's come out with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders like a cape, long enough to trail behind him like he's a king. gathering it all up around him, he only needs to poke his hand out if he wants to reach for the glass — everything else can stay covered. helpful to keep whatever warmth he has inside. his body temperature continues to be not what it once was and he's... adjusting. in his way. being still a little sleep-brained it also takes him a second to realise he's being spoken to. ]
Wait. Who? Me? I got water because even though I wanted to drink tea I don't know how to make it in a teapot so like—... probably not the best guy to ask..
[ embarrassing. also, he has a sudden realisation and wishes he'd dressed a little better. regrets intensify. ]
But—.. hey! You're our new roommate, huh? Sorry I didn't come out and meet you before..
[What a sight to see for a first impression. He definitely looks like he's struggling, but at least he doesn't have to worry about where his roomie was all this time. That is definitely a straight from bed appearance, but he's sure he's looked worse after a long night of gaming.]
Yeah, I'm Yoosung Kim, and it's alright... I'm just glad to see you. You must be Jongdae - what's your age? [He looks like he might possibly be chingu, but it's only polite to ask.]
A-Anyway though... my grandma likes teapot tea so I know. I could show you how once I figure out how to cook something without burning the house down. You look like you could use a cup.
[ It's nice that he isn't the only person who is freshly moving into this place. It makes living with complete strangers vaguely easier to know that someone else is just as much of a foreign object for the time being. That's about the extent on Tieria's thoughts about Yoosung by the time he enters the kitchen to see him standing at the ice box.
Why is this ice box like that anyway.... why is this entire kitchen like that... This is a nightmare... ]
I'm the wrong person to ask, considering this is all 500 years old to me... I actually just wondered the same thing with the same intent.
[Ah, the other new roommate... he feels pretty much the same, although he missed the Roomie AMA so the best he would have known was a quick heads up that there was one more person other than who Sylvia mentioned. Another person doesn't make a difference to him, though compared to the blanket fashion earlier, this guy definitely looks more normal. He's not going to think too hard about what a 500 years difference would be from him relative to the Victorian vibe that seems to be going on here.]
Aha, figures. You're even the second person I asked, but Jongdae didn't know either. I think they all just moved in here from somewhere else, maybe no one's familiar?
[A bit frustrating if so. He's so hungry! He should have thought of this before, but preserving memories was important too.]
The best I could figure out is, um... [There's a box under the stove, which he opens to show.] Something gets burned in here. Not sure if it's supposed to be wood or what.
[ near the end of the eclipse, the doors to monster house will suddenly swing wide open with a loud thud. whoever's entering the house isn't really pulling any punches. anyone who dares to investigate the entrance will find three people, one of whom is in utter shambles.
the other two -- sylvia and akechi, at a closer glance -- have jongdae's arms slung across their shoulders, and they're lugging him into the house. jongdae is slumped over, legs dragging across the floor, completely still. anyone who wants to get a closer look at what happened is free to approach as sylvia and akechi get him to the nearest couch.
sylvia's clothes are notably slightly stained with blood. ]
[Saori was up in her room with her door open. If the loud entrance didn't signal something is wrong, the smell of blood alerts the Chimera. She bolts out of her room to follow the scent and gasps when she sees the trio. With her monster strength, she helps by pushing the couch closer to them and fetches some towels for clean up. ]
Jongdae...what happened to him? Are you two alright?
[ once he's settled on the couch, sylvia buries her face in her hands. her shoulders are shaking. she can't look at anyone -- not akechi, saori, or anyone else who happens to stop by. akechi in particular will feel a surge of despair. ]
Someone -- someone killed Jongdae, but he's a vampire, he -- he has to come back, right?
[Saori began to clean up whatever she could from Jongdae. Somehow he felt colder than usual. As far as she could tell rigor mortis hadn't settled in yet but she freezes. ]
Killed?
[Saori's blood went cold at the same time her heart ached for Sylvia. She bites her lip, as she tries to suppress her need to follow the blood trail back to the son of a bitch who did this to their housemate. The hunt can wait. She grabs one of the spare towels and wraps it around the pucca's shoulders and hugs her, rubbing her back. ]
I do remember reading that those who are vampires do need to die to finish their transformations but...this is too cruel. Thank you both for finding and bringing him back. I hate to ask either of you after all of this but did anyone catch a glimpse of who did this?
