(open)hedge your bets (litha)[The sheep that wasn't aggressing, that seemed the easiest to frighten for this fact ends up actually being the easiest to scare. The trouble is that rather than stiffening and flopping to the ground much like nearby sheep do, this particular sheep yells. She yells in that sort of shriek one would associate more with a teenage girl than a sheep, which is really why the nearby livestock manage to faint than anything else. The black sheep in question leaps high into the air and with a puff of smoke, down comes a Puca that lands squarely on her bottom.](closed - ursula)
[Akko leans back as she tries to catch her breath, ignoring how much it smarts landing on the ground like that. Eventually, she lifts her head and frowns a little.]
Warn me before you go and do something like that![In truth, Akko is a little hesitant about wrangling with sheep with teeth. Well, not so much teeth because she's pretty sure sheep have teeth, but these are really sharp teeth. And these sheep seem real sick of being spooked year after year to get their wool shorn judging from the glances spared in their direction. Neither Chariot nor Akko are close to the herd yet, but they already seem ready take a bite out of them.]
[But despite the livestock's ill-temper, when she overheard some Witches at the Coven lamenting the potential fate of these guys, Akko knew that something needed to be done. They can mean mug Akko and Chariot all they want! It's not gonna deter her, no sir! Akko stands with her back straight (definitely not stiff with a little apprehension), chin raised, and sleeves rolled up ready to tussle with some sheep.]
[Or as ready as she's ever going to be. Her ear twitches a little. Maybe the Puca instincts will help and keep her from getting bitten. Would she still be able to run as fast if she was transformed? No, don't think about that!]
I should probably do it over here, right? [She looks up at Chariot.] I don't think they'll let me get close.
(open)[Akko sits on a bench with a fairly large pile of flowers beside her, her tongue slightly stuck out as she weaves the stems of different flowers together. The pile is in fact so large, it looks like she raided someone's garden to gather them all. Certianly far more flowers than she'll ever need, right?](closed - diana)
[Or. Well. She attempts to weave them together. As it turns out, making flower crowns is something that happens to be a little easier said than done, which wasn't something she was entirely anticipating. Her reasoning, regardless of how accurate or inaccurate it might be, is that little kids make these all the time. So, she should be able to figure them out. It'll just take a little trial and error.]
[...]
[And maybe a gigantic stack of flowers.]
[Regardless, she is kind enough to offer her duds. There's a growing pile of flower crowns that didn't come out quite right that she doesn't feel she can actually give to anyone. So, when someone walks by, she doesn't look up from what she's doing but offers,]
You can help yourself if you like any of them! I won't charge you anything for them and you can totally take credit for making them.
[...Why you would want to is anybody's guess.]Oh no, that wall! [Akko points accusatorily for emphasis to the wall directly in front of them.] Was not there before! This place is definitely changing while we're in here, this is just proves it!
[It doesn't really...prove much of anything. While it's true that the pair of them have likely been going in very long, convoluted circles since they entered the maze, it's just as likely that Akko is fishing for any and all excuses as to how or why they haven't been able to find the exit. That being said, it also isn't exactly above the people in charge of this particular hedge maze to throw something like that. Before they entered, there was talk of how the hedges were often enchanted to create extra challenge or prevent cheating.]
[But there's no guarantee that's what's happening here and Akko isn't just completely and utterly lost.]
[She turns to Diana, hands on her hips.]
You got any ideas because I'm fresh out.

Huh? [A blink, as her eyes returned somewhat to normal.] Oh. 'M drunk.
[Two glasses of sweet wine and the festival's atmosphere drunk, but that still counted as far as Kaede was concerned. She wasn't stumbling about, but she had stopped caring that other people existed in her space.
The Chimera scuffed a foot in the dust as she threaded the crown clumsily over an antler, giving up on the other one. She settled it between them, and for the moment it seemed secure--but it started to slide forward the moment she nodded to herself.]
There room on the bench?
no subject
There you go... Do you want help with the...crown?
[Akko asks the question, pointing to the top of her own head.]
no subject
The Chimera's ear twitched when Akko spoke, though it took a beat longer for Kaede to respond. She started to glance up--and shook her head, making the crown wobble.]
Don't touch my head. Don't like people...touching my head.
[Unless they're Very Specific People or she's asked. Or in a different frame of mind altogether.]

[...]
[Akko...on a good day, doesn't really know how to talk to Kaede. Their interactions always seem to have an edge to them where they're always on the verge of a squabble or argument. She really doesn't want to test it when Kaede's been drinking. Thus, she opts only to glance at Kaede, an occasional ear swiveling in her direction, rather than trying to engage her in conversation.]
no subject
After a nebulous while, though, she turned to look at the pile of flowers. Carefully, the Chimera reached for one, and with meticulous slowness she gently nudged the petals back into place. She laid that one on her knee, and started on the next, and the next.
The current one was another tangle of pinkish honeysuckle. Kaede didn't spend so much time on the petals, simply twining it over her fingers, holding it up to her nose--and...giggling?]
no subject
[No, not like a Puca freeze. Maybe almost one, but not actually a proper Puca freeze.]
[Still, it's hard not to suddenly stop what you're doing when someone like Kaede giggles. It's not a horrible, unpleasant sound compared to most noises that Kaede makes around Akko, but it's so out of place that she almost thinks she's losing it or under a stray spell or something. It's only when she remembers again that Kaede's been drinking that she feels a little more confident that the noise coming from the other end of the bench is indeed real.]
You really like those flowers, huh?
no subject
Kaede pauses a little when she remembers there's a witness, but rather than clamming up in mortification, that paranoid worry simply...drifted away. She flicked a thumb claw over one of the flowers--too much, as it snapped off and fell away.]
They smell nice.
[There was a moment's delay before she looked where the honeysuckle flower had fallen.]
Only the pink ones really work.
[work for what, Kaede]
no subject
[It’s a little against Akko's better judgment when it comes to prying into what Kaede is getting at with that. But she's being really weird and vague! What else is Akko supposed to do?! She squints a little at Kaede, trying to figure it out for herself. You know, as if Kaede wasn't unreadable to her 80-90% of the time and she could just divine the answer from body language alone.]
Are you drunk on flowers?
no subject
She leaned against the back of the bench with a flick of her tail, crushing one of the flowers to release its scent better. The Chimera's pupils dilated and her ears twitched a bit as she breathed in.]
Like a cat is, I guess.
[Though Fang didn't seem to care about honeysuckles, whether they were pink or not. Neither did most of the stray cats she ran into on the street. The woody stems and unearthed roots of those strange pinkish flowers were a different story, however.]
no subject
[Granted, she's not exactly a cat expert or anything, so maybe she's wrong. Maybe cats do lose it over honeysuckle, too. Or maybe it's just the combination of the wine with the honeysuckle in Kaede's case? Akko shakes her head a little, choosing not to think too hard on it and turns her attention back to her crown.]
That's real weird, Kaede.
no subject
'S what I thought, too.
[Chimeras are perplexing beasts.]
Guess I am weird, huh.
no subject
[There isn't any sort of maliciousness behind the question from Akko. Maybe a little exasperation, but she can't really be blamed for that, can she? It seems like every time she thinks she knows anything about Kaede, she does something totally weird! How is she supposed to keep up with that?]
no subject
No. I knew.
[The Chimera breathed out a resigned sigh instead of an agitated one as another intrusive thought wormed into what should have been pleasant nothings.]
I'm one of the strange animals.
[The echoes should have faded into long-ago whispers, but she still felt the small jabs of Tomoo's stupid little voice. Animals sleep outside.
The scent of honeysuckle carried those echoes away, and Kaede's ears twitched a little as she shook her head to clear it. Shoo, go away thoughts.]
no subject
[A grouchy and sometimes unkind person (at least toward Akko), but still a person all the same.]
no subject
[She'd heard similar, sometimes. She felt as such, from Chariot. But the name of Monster or Beast was still one she accepted all too readily.]
no subject
[Instead, she sets the crown she's working on into her lap and leans down towards the flowers.]
Then I'll just keep saying it until it stops sounding funny. [She pulls out a few more of the pink honeysuckle from the pile and holds them out to Kaede.] Even if I gotta say it a thousand times or more.
[They might not always get along very well, but Akko can't leave well enough alone when it comes to something like that. You don't have to get along with someone to recognize their humanity or that they're like everybody else regardless of how weird they are or what sets them apart. And in Akko's mind, whatever way Kaede was treated before, she didn't deserve. You can be a jerk and still have a right to be treated with kindness. To not have to feel so alone.]
[She smiles a little at Kaede.]
