[open] June catch-all
Who: Kor Meteor and others
When: In June
Where: Aefenglom
What: A catch-all for the month
Warnings: n/a
{A: On Fleece]
[Shearing sheep didn't sound too bad. His village back home didn't usually raise sheep, but he had a little experience at least.
...At least, with the sheep back home. But these ones, these weird "fainting sheep" that won't faint and also have fangs? Yeah, this is some new territory for him. These sheep definitely have been proving to be more resillient than he was expecting to deal with here.
He turns to another person on the job and says:]
Hmm... Any ideas here? I'm used to dealing with cloud sheep, not... whatever these things are supposed to be. I mean, who's ever heard of sheep that don't electrocute you?
[What.]
[B: Berry Picking]
[Okay, berry picking he can do. That's simple. So simple to Kor that he didn't even bother to pay attention to the potential side-effects or dangers associates with these berries. How bad could it be, they were berries! All he cared about was he was getting paid double to do something he did for free back home.
After about 20 minutes or so picking, Kor began to feel very... light. He moved through the berry patches with a spring in his step, humming cheerfully to himself as he plucked the fruit from the bushels. His clothes positively reeked of the leaves, and he had several smears of berry juices on his face and clothes.
Someone was enjoying himself, at least. Maybe a little too much.]
[C: Magic Practice]
[Magic was not Kor's forte. He was a melee fighter by nature, accustomed to fighting on the frontlines with a sword in hand. He'd been learning to adapt his magic towards that very purpose, but it was slow progress, slowly pushing his limits and capacity to control something he had no experience and no aptitude for.
But the Coven was well suited to helping with that, serving as a safe place to easily practice magic to one's content. He's found himself a nice open courtyard area to work in.
A sword manifests itself in his hand, extending from an empty sword hilt and brimming with magic. He takes a couple slashes, decisive and lightning quick swings. And then he attempts to use one of his artes. With a cry of "Solar Flare!", he thrusts the weapon outward, and a missile-like burst of energy rockets forward, out from the blade. The energy comprising the blade vanishes along with the magic-based arte, leaving an empty hilt in Kor's hand.
He frowns down at it.]
Crap... Still using too much, I guess...
[Training by himself was only going to go so far.]

Yuma Ilvern
Today, though, he's got some company.]
You should've said something sooner that you wanted to come fishing, Yuma! I'dve been glad to have you along.
Re: Yuma Ilvern
Watching the fishermen in the harbor had caught his attention, however, and he figured he'd give the old fashioned method a try. Luckily for him, Kor seemed quite familiar with it, and even seemed willing to bring him along. ]
I wasn't really sure if you wanted company or not. It just seems so quiet.
[ Even Kor needs some time to himself every so often, right? Goodness knows anyone would need a break when the full moon rolls around and you're living with a monster. At least Yuma has a fairly good handle on things by now, though.
Speaking of which, he's done a decent enough job of tucking his wings out of the way, given how big they are. He's been more or less forced to criss-cross them behind himself to pull it off, but it works. ]
You do this a whole lot, though, huh? I see you almost every time I'm circling over the harbor.
no subject
[Maybe you shouldn't admit that to people, Kor.]
But you do, huh? I'm here a lot, yeah. Back home, I liked helping out the local fishermen, or even doing some of my own. So whenever I do it here, it makes this crazy place feel a little more normal and familiar to me.
one eternity later
Although...talking to one's self is a little bit odd. But then, Kor can be a bit odd himself sometimes. ]
I know that feeling. Sometimes I end up just doing chores because that's how I spent a lot of time back home. I guess I just miss what life was like back at the inn.
[ Given how his life has been in the past, mundane things sometimes give Yuma a much-needed sense of normalcy and comfort, even if he's dealing with an extra pair of limbs (among other things) nowadays. Although that's not to say he never did chores to avoid being scolded, of course. Granted, a portion of cleaning tends to involve picking up his own feathers after a full moon, but at least it's still peaceful despite the stressful reminders it brings. ]
This place really does get pretty crazy.... It's almost easy to forget when you're doing something so peaceful like this.

[Kor nods along to what Yuma's saying. There's always so much going on here. The excitement usually happened on the road, it was always part of the adventure. He wasn't used to sticking around one place for so long, nor so much happening in one place.]
That's why it's important to do stuff like this. Sitting around a pot of stew laughing with friends... Having a snowball fight... Even just seeing who can reel in the biggest catch... [He says all this so fondly. He has so many good memories of the great times he's shared with his friends back home over the months they'd traveled together.] That's the sort of thing that really strengthens the bonds you have with people.
no subject
Yeah... Even just walking around town talking with one another. [ Something he did every so often back home. It was pleasant, if a bit awkward every so often. But the Dragoneers were a friendly bunch (maybe a bit too friendly in Rinna's case), so it was hard to not feel welcomed. ]
I don't think I've ever been in a snowball fight before, though. What's that like?
no subject
It's so fun! You roll snow into small balls and throw them at your friends!
no subject
[ What?
Listen, Yuma's familiar with games like tag and the like but...this seems new. And judging by the name, this isn't exactly a game of catch, either. Pardon him if he sounds a tiny bit doubtful. But if Kor says it's fun, then it can't be all that bad, right? ]
I guess I'll have to try it for myself when it starts snowing here. Come to think of it, there's a lot of stuff like that I never really got to try growing up.

[He gives his rod a bob. Still no bites, huh...]
I never even saw a giant wall until recently!
[It was an impressive wall.]
C
[Just don't mind a tall puca watching you, Kor.
His ears twitches, flopping just a bit as he blinks at the sight.]
Do you have to call out the names of spells like that?
no subject
As his magic fizzles out, he turns to Lavi to address him.]
Calling out the names of your Artes is the most important part of using them!
no subject
[Clueless blink.
Gotta help him out more here, Kor.]
Seems like you're having a bit of trouble with it there.
[He's not unaccustomed to people calling out the names of their attacks. Lavi does it often--if he could use his Innocence. Still, it is fascinating to know other worlds seems to do that, too.]
no subject
[Sorry, Lavi. If you want him to elaborate on Artes, you're gonna have to ask him to.]
It's been a couple months since I started learning, but I'm still trying to get the hang of using multiple spells at the same time without overloading.
no subject
He tilts his head.]
Is this world's spells that much different from these 'Artes' that you use?
no subject
Hmm... I guess not? They just take a little more thought and focus here. But...
[He holds up the empty hilt in his hand, and after a second or two, a magical blade appears from it, teeming like a bolt of lightning in it.]
Using my Soma takes a lot more work here. I have to cast a spell to use it and then I have to maintain it.
no subject
[He waves a hand a bit.]
Let's back track. What are Artes and what's a Soma?
[They're two terms that is completely lost on him.]
no subject
Artes are the special attacks I do with it?
[Is that helpful? Maybe, maybe not.]
no subject
[It's what he's getting here.]
I'm surprised you're able to use it.
no subject
Really? What's so strange about it?
no subject
[Hence why his Innocence hammer is just...a hammer.]
Or it'd be more complicated to use in this place anyway.
🍇 🍒 🍓
It's as she's returning with her a freshly emptied basket that she passed him. Pausing to look at his grubby face. He gets a slow blink, then she's bringing a hand up to her mouth, giving her thumb a lick.
Then she just reaches to rub at the smears on his face. Trying to clean him up, like a mom wiping at a toddle. Lovely. You are now being mother henned.]
no subject
Umm... What are you doing...?
[He's never really been "mothered" before, especially not to this extent.]
no subject
You have juice on your face...What did you do?
no subject
Well! These berries just smelled so good, I had to try some. And then, I kept trying some! I ate a lot of berries here.
[It was a free lunch while on the job.]
no subject
If they're paying you by the hour. Unless you've asked to be paid by the punnet. [And she pauses again. Looking down at the basic as she steps back.]
Did you wash them first? I found some that had bird shit on.
no subject
Crap, I didn't think about it being stealing! I mean, animals and stuff come by here and eat these right?
no subject
I guess. But most farmers would snare a place or have a gun ready...We ocassionally caught rabbits that tried to steal our crops.
