Humidity

[Japan was pretty well-known for its disgustingly humid summers, so while this wasn't out of the ordinary for Yosuke, it was hardly something he enjoyed. So, he decided to finally take a break from studying and learning to cool off. The river was devoid of Merrow for once, not that he didn't create a minor protection charm just in case. He was still learning, so he wasn't sure how effective it would be but it hung around his neck as a satchel, a couple stones and herbs powered up. Still, he wasn't really going to go swimming as he stepped into the river, he just wanted to cool off and hanging out at the edge in the shade was definitely a bit of welcome relief.

Aside from the satchel and his swim trunks, his clothes were in a bag off to the side. There was a scar on his arm that was easily identifiable as caused by claws (an accident with Yu) with a similar, but smaller, line across his cheek. He didn't feel too self-conscious about them. Although he did around Yu, if only because his partner still felt guilty about it. But there was nothing for it.

He yawned, leaning against the edge with his head propped up as the heat and cool waters combined produced a bit of a sleepy effect. But he blinked and looked over at anyone who came to either join him in the waters or were walking by. He gave a small wave and a grin regardless, even if you're just a passerby.]

Study Time

[He wasn't sure how it happened but Yosuke had more or less turned his room into a DIY apothecary. Sort of. He was still learning, but his intense studying to help Yu and to learn as much as he could in general meant that he was doing a lot more gathering and practicing and not a lot of clean up or getting fresh air. Which meant it was inevitable that he was kicked out of the house so Yu could clean up and organize things. Studying was not his forte but the repetition and urgency ended up breeding a new habit and, to be honest, he was pretty proud of himself! But he could see why he also needed to get out. Despite the heat, the sun was nice to feel and he mosied on to a coffee shop to get a cup, he picked an outside table so he could read in the shade but still get that fresh air he needed. His table was also full of open books and notebooks.

Although, at some point, one could happen upon him with his cup empty and napping on said books. So much for studying. At least the breeze felt nice.]

[As one could imagine the theme from Jaws playing in the background, a certain chimera was already in the water, the only telltale in there was the pair of eyes, top of his hair and the two wolfish ears that peeked from the water. If Yosuke was uncomfortable, Yu, now seemingly permanently stuck with furry, wolfish legs, was in languish when he wasn't attempting to cool down.

The satchel that Yosuke had given him to calm him down was still tied to his neck, reflecting against his skin in the sunlight. He had plunged into the colder water, letting the stream pass on both sides as his feet were furiously doggie paddling in the deeper parts of the river before he slowly returned to shore and gave Yosuke a grin, eye looking away from the scar.]

This feels so much better.

Doesn’t it?

[Honestly, watching Yu flail around like that was kind of hilarious. At least he could still swim though. He cupped the water and splashed some on his face. It really did feel nice.]

How are you feeling anyway? The charm still working?

[He laughs back, still knee-deep in the water, using his hands to hold the rest of his body upright.]

Yeah I think so.

[Wait a minute...gears in his head turning.]

Oh uh...is there anything that will get destroyed by water? I forgot to ask.

The sprigs will likely get waterlogged. But I mean... I'm sure you'll be fine.

[They already had their talk, so. And besides-]

The stones should hold you over till we get home and I can make a replacement. You sure you wanna keep wearing it though?

Okay. You're the magician.

[He briefly looks at him, then down at the scare before looking away again, doing some dogie-paddles before speaking.]

I...it might be safer for now. I'm just worried after what happened.

Hey.

[Yosuke swam out a bit and put his hand on Yu's shoulder to stop him moving around for now.]

Partner, you can't get better at controlling this if you're gonna keep relying on the charm.

[He whines. And like, a whine that sound so doglike it almost makes him jolt up in surprise. Well. That was certainly a thing.]

I know...Maybe you could slowly lower the power of the charm? Is that possible?

[Honestly, he had to bite his lip to stop the amused smile at the whine. It was honestly kind of adorable?]

Probably, definitely wouldn't hurt to give it a shot! I use the moons to charge it, sorta. So like, I'll just try doing it when it's not close to a new moon or something?

[Excuse you, he is a noble and beautiful beast!]

That sounds like a plan, Partner.

[The word still sounds a little foreign to his lips. It would take a while for Yu to even feel like it was deserved. Idly, he resisted the urge to shake his legs when he removed his arms and let them sink into the sand under the water. Also very relaxing.]

Maybe you could make me a charm so I stop growing too.

[He's kidding at least.]

[Beautiful, sure, but noble...citation needed. Kidding!]

Heh, I wish I could do that. Pretty sure charms don't work like that.

[Too bad, too. But still, he rather enjoyed hearing Yu call him "partner" again. It had taken another couple of weeks for Yosuke to give his answer to Yu about his feelings. He still wasn't one hundred percent sure, this was scary and new after all! But with the Bond and everything else that happened, there wasn't much in the way of stopping himself from realizing that yeah, his feelings for his partner were a lot more than platonic by now.]

I'm sure you'll stop eventually. There's usually an end to these changes, right? For now, I'll just take advantage and have get all the things from the top shelf for me.

[Kidding! Mostly.]

[Beautiful and noble - Nobiful if you will - Yu Narukami probably.]

Probably not but there's another type of charm that is working.

[Checks a little hot, he gives him a little smile before moving in closer. Yu was still uncertain about this as well, but, hey once Yosuke had admitted, the gloves had been thrown off. Maybe not literally, but it still felt a little bizarre that he could flirt with him and not feel bad about it.]

I could just pull you up or you could magic it yourself.

[He thinks? Yosuke is amazing Yu wouldn't be surprised if his partner figures flying out before him.]

Hm?

[Yosuke wasn't sure what he was talking about there. He tilted his head but soon he was snorting softly with a slight shake.]

Please don't pick me up like I'm Nanako-chan. That would just be embarrassing! And I don't think the magic works like that...

[He was also pretty sure flying wasn't on the table either.]

[Elliot had come to the coffee shop to talk to the owner about a possible music venue, so it was really only by chance that Elliot showed up the same time that Yosuke's studying. He comes out of the coffee shop with his own drink in hand when he spots him.

Which hey, he knows that guy! And wow, look at him hitting the books]

Wow, that looks like some serious studying going on.

Huh?

[He almost dozed off, but jerked awake at the voice. He looked up and grinned. Oh right, he had meant to contact Elliot once things worked out. Oops.]

Hey! Sorry I hadn’t called... but uh, yeah I just... got used to it I guess? But um - [Yosuke closed the books and notebooks, opening up room for Elliot.] Here, have a seat. I didn’t mean to hog the whole table.

Ehe, it's okay. I'm just glad to see you're looking alright.

[But he'll take him up on that, sitting down in the spot that Yosuke cleared for him]

Thanks. So what're you working on?

Right, yeah.

[Such a hectic month. May was definitely gonna be one to remember.]

Just taking notes on plants, really. I've been working on making charms and potions. I mean, eventually I'll dabble in the other stuff too. Healing and some offensive were my thing back home but taking care of Yu kinda sidetracked me and like... this is actually pretty interesting? So, I figure I'd stick with it for now.

[Well hey! That catches his interest]

Oh really? I didn't know you were into healing too. [Something in common!] I find it pretty interesting too, and it's really useful! Especially if you can get the hang of alchemy.

What's your offensive style? Do you favor an element, or...?

Yeah! I never got my healing to be the most powerful, that was our friend Yukiko, but I was able to be back up for her. I used a lot of wind spells, though! And my kunai.

[At least they had this in common and music.]

What about you? Is it just healing or anything else?

Wind's a pretty good element for healing though. And I bet you'll get even better. [...] A kunai is a ...knife, right?

[He vaguely recalls his friends talking about them]

Well healing's my main thing, but I also used a lot of water magic. Here, I try to branch out as much as I can. Gotta make up for my lack of physical skills somehow.

[Because seriously, it's pretty obvious he's a scrawny guy]

I didn't use wind for healing, so that's something I'd have to figure out if that's how it works here... [He nodded.] Yeah. I mean, I can use knives too. I've fought with wrenches before too. Just kinda had to use what we found sometimes.

[It's weird, he knows.]

I think our elements back home were tied to our Personas, so it wasn't something we could pick. Only my partner could do that because he was able to use more than one Persona. The rest of us just had the one.

[That would make too of them, Yosuke isn't that strong compared to the others but...]

Could always try working on being faster, then? That's what I do.

If it would work would depend on your technique and channeling style really. [He actually looks a little impressed] Haha, wrenches? That sounds really resourceful.

[Look his weapon is basically a giant glorified bubble wand can he really judge weird?]

A "Persona"? What's that? [First he's heard that term] And...I've tried. I've improved my speed a little over the past couple years, but my reflexes still aren't great.

We didn't exactly plan to save the world, but they hit hard so why not?

[Probably not, but there was a chance to slap Shadows around with fish and corn on the cob so.......]

Oh! My bad, I figured with Aragaki here and I think a few others had been here before that it was a bit more well-known. Uh, well, have you heard of the concept before? Just the word and stuff.

[It'd probably be easier to explain if Elliot already had some kind of baseline knowledge on it. But totally understandable if not, Yosuke didn't until Naoto had done more research.]

Yeah, whatever works!

[Elliot offers a very soft laugh at that]

Yeah sorry. Shinjiro and I share a Bonded, but it's not like we hang out enough for him to tell me...anything. [Especially when that man is not that chatty] But the word...that's a term for personalities right? Or a way you act?

Nah, it's cool but yeah, it's about personalities. We all put on a mask to get through the day to day stuff or something like that. What Aragaki and me and my partner could do back home was summon a physical manifestation of it. So they all looked different since it was based on our personalities and stuff. Well, how they looked anyway, not sure why they got names out like... myth and folklore stuff but I honestly don't question it too much.

[Some of it is still pretty beyond him.]

But they're the reason any of us could use magic and some of us had specialties in elemental stuff or healing or whatever. Mine was wind and I was sort of the back up healer, since our friend Yukiko got way stronger spells than I did later on down the line.

Oh wow...[That sounds pretty metal honestly] So...it's like a mix of natural elemental affinities and...a familiar? But a familiar that comes from your personality.

[Yeah that makes sense]

That sounds really cool! I wish I could see it.

Yup! I'm not sure if Aragaki got his the same way like Partner and I did but it involved meeting your Shadow which is like... all the negative stuff you try to bury. And it's stuff you probably didn't even know you were thinking until it's right in front of your face. It's not easy facing yourself but...

[But that's how you get stronger. Accepting the good and the bad.]

Maybe it'll happen eventually.

Facing your shadow that's all your negative traits huh...

[He gives a little self-deprecating laugh]

Haha, actually sounds like a trial I'd ace with flying colors. I'm really good at thinking about all my shortcomings.

[Hoo boy, are you him, Elliot?]

Trust me, being self-deprecating does not prepare you for your Shadow. Like I said, it's stuff you're likely not even aware of. At least, that's how it was for us. It was... really hard to accept since it wasn't just someone telling you your faults.

I'm not sure how to describe it without really going into detail and that's... super personal, so.

Don't worry! I'm curious, but I won't pry into something so personal. It sounds really intense and cool though....Personas, I mean.

Heh, they can be. Partner's able to use a bunch of them which I think is even more intense! I don't even really get how he got so many. What about you? What's your world like with that kinda stuff?

Multiple Personas? I just heard about them, but that sound crazy even to me! Wow...

[He scratches the side of his head at that question]

Aha my world? Well...we don't have personas. There are people with special powers, but for most people...we use devices called a battle orbment that draws magic energy out of these special quartz.

[He lifts his arm to show the bracelet around his wrist. Embedded in the bracelet were a half dozen marble sized gem stones, dimly glowing and centered around a larger blue one with a golden crest inside.]

These. My orbment doesn't work here and the magic for depleted from my quartz, so I've been using them to start excess magic for emergencies.
