( On Fleece )

[ This isn't the first time there's been something going on with the sheep, right? Well the first time Vanitas hadn't been all that interested. Honestly he's not all that interested this time either. However, the reports of sheep with fangs has sort of piqued his interested. The only reason that Vanitas is there is to poke some fun at people. He has no intention of actually helping. So that's what he does. He'll see someone intimidated by one of the wooly beasts and then he jeers. Vanitas mocks and teases. Because that is the sort of person that he is. Who could possibly be afraid of these things?

Of course the tables turn a little, don't they? While Vanitas doesn't help anyone out - not one bit - he seems to have his own following of sheep after some time. They eventually block Vanitas in and he shoves at them. He's not nervous about their forward attitude. ]

Go away! [ Oh they aren't budging. ] Come on! Get lost!

[ The sheep aren't going anywhere. In the process of Vanitas trying to get them to go away, one licks his cheek instead. ]

Augh! Gross!

[ He might have forgotten about the fact that animals like his aura, okay? ]


( Berry Picking )

[ Seems like all of the bakeries are wanting these iunerberries. It feels like pretty tedious work, so Vanitas doesn't really take any interest in it at all. However, when one of the shops is offering double? That is when he takes notice. How hard can it be to pick some berries and get some money for it, after all?

Hence he is out in the fields, with what feels like a bunch of people. Vanitas' basket is coming along fairly well, but he is trying to keep to himself. There are a few people that Van can get on okay with, but for the most part groups still annoy him.

Come bother him? All he's doing is plucking berries. One in particular catches his eye. Just what do these iunerberries taste like? ]


( Candle Crafts )

[ After Irhya drags him to this activity the first time, Vanitas will stop by now and then. How many people have told him that he needs to find a hobby? Thancred sure seems to have been encouraging it. Vanitas would prefer to do something other than create candles for a holiday that he knows nothing about nor cares to but whatever.

He doesn't take to carving anything or designing. Vanitas is pretty content with just the pouring aspect. The staff teaching those that are wanting to learn are used to this, but are trying to coerce Van into learning how to design as well.

The look on his face is one of disgust. ]


( Silent Forest )

[ Vanitas is going to be going out each and every time an infusion is requested. Each and every time he's going to say this: ]

I don't need any help. I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself. Go find someone else.

[ At least that's what his response is to anyone that approaches him. Yet in the end that isn't going to work, is it? In the end someone is going to be stubborn enough to work through his prickly exterior and come along with him, huh? Thus here he is, in the company of someone that he never asked for, walking through the forest. ]

The leyline should be somewhere around here. Let's just get this done and go.

[ lance, unlike vanitas, is actually enjoying this little crafting session. he's listening attentively, though his pouring could use a little work -- the design part of it all is exciting, however. he's looking forward to it!

though...the guy sitting next to him doesn't really seem to be looking forward to it at all. aw. ]

[ Look, he doesn't mind spending time earning cunes. Pouring the wax and creating the candle is pretty simple work. It's repetitive and doesn't really require too much thought to carry out the task. Leave it to others to get creative. ]

I'm content enough with this.

[ Not to mention when he had tried before he had sort of stared at the candle, unsure what to do with it. ]

Well, getting creative's pretty fun! Unless you're not really that kind of person, then yeah, I guess this might seem a little tedious.

[ well, as long as the guy's got something to do. at least he seems to be doing okay with the pouring part, so they'll at least give him his fair share of cunes... ]

I can decorate yours if you want? I'd be willing to give it a shot.

[ Uh oh. Lance is on the receiving end of a flat stare. Does Vanitas really look like the sort that gets creative? His Unversed don't count ]

The entire process is tedious. However it is something to do.

[ Vanitas doesn't necessarily like being idle, all right? ]

So if you want to decorate them when I am done, who am I to stop you?

[ not with that attitude!!! lance no. ]

It is a little tedious, yeah, but you're right! And we're getting paid for it too, so why not have a little fun with it? ... If you know what that is, I mean.

[ look, this guy looks and sounds very edgy and lance might be poking some fun at him. somehow he's inclined to with people like him... ]

Alright, just pass them over when you're done. I'll pause my own pouring so I can decorate whatever you dish out. Sounds good?

[ Vanitas frowns a little at the comment. ]

I do know what that is, for your information.

[ Rather, he knows what it is to experience fun. At least now Vanitas does. He still struggles with the whole coming up with it on his own. That and actually seeking it out on his own just because. Usually he needs someone to initiate. ]

Whatever works. Give me the one you're still working on and I'll give you this one.

[ He huffs and passes the first candle over. ]

Hey, I'm joking!

[ ...why does he feel like he's had a discussion about this with someone before? huh. weird. ]

Alright, time to switch! [ he'll hand over his candle to vanitas, in that case, and get to work on the new candle.

he'll use whatever supplies are available to start on it. and it looks like he's working really, really hard on it. the end result ends up being a janky-looking...animal of some sort? with a lot of blue on it and a smiley face that basically looks like an ":)" emoji.

[ It works out well enough. And since they seem to be working as a team, the employees aren't really going to bother Vanitas now. A system has been worked out.

Yet when Van brings over another candle, he just stares. What... Is. That? What is that even supposed to be? ]

What am I even looking at.

[ he says this like he's half-offended, half-"isn't it obvious?".... ]

[ Look. He just sees a mess of scribbles on this poor, mutilated candle. ]

She doesn't need a mane!!

[ it sure is a huge mess. like. you can barely discern it's a lion, let alone an actual animal. ]

Come on, it looks fine!

[ Suppose that much makes sense. But pssht. ]

It still doesn't look much like anything.

Well, I wanna see you do better, then!

[ are they really having this argument right now? are they? lance sure is, that's for sure. ]

[ Vanitas gives the other an odd look. Yeah... Apparently they are really arguing over this. ]

[ Not as he is though. He's never so much as put pen to paper for anything but writing. Vanitas hasn't experienced art. ]

How much time? I took...fifteen minutes, at the most.

[ yeah, this is the hill he's dying on. he has no idea that this guy's never experienced art before.

and lance is fully ready to challenge him on this...... ]

After a lesson or two, perhaps.

[ Lance can try to die on that hill. It's fine. Vanitas doesn't really know what he's getting himself into here. ]

That's not fair, either! I never took any lessons!

[ boy.....boy. stop. ]

Alright, we're settling this here and now! [ he reaches over and grabs one of his own blank candles and puts it right in front of vanitas. ]

You're drawing a lion on this thing. I'm giving you fifteen minutes!

[ Yeah and Vanitas doesn't even merit that with a response. He knows how to read and write. Some things are just ingrained memories that not even being split from his other half have taken away.

That's not to say that he knows anything about this. So he just sort of. Stares at it for a moment or two and then gets irritated. Shoves the candle away. ]

[ he says it in a way that sounds like he's got his chin held high, but he's actually a little deflated. either way, he looks like a grump now as he... attempts to fix the mess of a lion he made on vanitas' candle. ]

...You know, you kind of remind me of someone I talked to once. No idea who it was since it was on the network.

[ He huffs in return. Van watches as Lance tries to fix it. ]

...You don't say.

[ As if Vanitas isn't aware that Lance had been talking to him. ]

And what did you two talk about?

[ he just...kinda squints at him a little... ]

Friendship. Getting attached to people. Stuff that this person apparently hadn't felt before. It was an interesting conversation.

[ Squint all you want there, Lance. Vanitas' face just remains impassive as ever. ]

It takes all kinds, doesn't it? You certainly can't expect everyone to have the same kinds of experiences.

No, but...hm.

[ he gives vanitas another scrutinizing look. he holds that look for a while...

...

and then he just shrugs. looks like the connection wasn't made after all... ]

Dunno. You just reminded me of them a little, that's all. Now...time to fix this thing.

[ he turns back to his candle and just. tries to cover the monstrosity he drew in glitter. ]

[ Sorry Lance. Vanitas isn't going to give anything away from his body language or facial expressions. He merely raises a brow, waiting for the accusation.

But when the other turns around, Vanitas rolls his eyes. ]

Connect these lines here.

[ At least he points it out, leaning over and everything. Might make it salvageable? Just because he isn't sure how to do it himself doesn't mean that he can't see where to correct some mistakes. ]

... [ and connect those lines he does. he uses the paint to do so, and -- well, it's at least looking a little more like a lion, now, without all the gaps in the lineart lance made earlier. ]

Okay, that worked.

[ he picks up the glitter and looks at the new version of the lion, then back at the glitter. ]
