Everyone probably has their own reasons for being at the lake. For Lan Xichen, working in the forge tends to lead to overheating (especially when he's been fighting off certain stress levels) and the nearby water provides a good way to politely cool off. Maybe you met him on his way and decided to join in or maybe you were already there. After several days this becomes a regular pattern of work followed by an afternoon soak, so it's possibly just a nice diversion when things are a bit too much to handle.

Whether it is swimming, meditating, having a snack, or just enjoying the fresh air along the bank, there are plenty of ways to share time with friends. The only possible warning will come from Lan Xichen himself if it looks like an argument is brewing--he will intervene. He came explicitly for some quiet time, so if anyone starts a fight, they'll probably have a half-naked Lan there to break them up. Maybe that's your thing.

Well, I couldn't really say that for sure if I'm not in on it, can I? [Momo's met at least one or two people who are in that kind of situation from similar times to him, so he can't say it's not the case. Still, he cups one cheek thoughtfully.]

I'd like to think it'd be super hard to hide something like that in a world like mine, where so much information is spread so quickly and people can talk about something they saw the moment they see it. But I have met at least one person from a similar time to mine where that was apparently a thing. At the very least, it's not something I or anyone I know has ever dealt with, and I know a lot of people.

[He doesn't phrase that as a boast, but a statement of fact, with a tone as if the number of people he knows is overwhelming even to him.]

The Watches really are marvellous technology. I can only imagine what it must be like to grow up in a place where information does flow so freely. [Imagine too, the possibilities for disinformation as well, and save that thought for such time as it might be useful. Technology is great.]

What did you do before you came here, that you knew so many people in such a busy place, may I ask?

[It's definitely been an Experience trying to explain what Momo's world is like to people from more historical ones, so Momo gives a knowing sort of smile at that.

On the topic of things that are difficult to explain, though, the subject of his work makes him rub the back of his hair like he's thinking how to put it.] I was a kind of entertainer called an idol. Me and my partner were really well-known around the country for our music, but also acting and other kinds of performance that a famous face is useful for. So I have a lot of contacts since we've worked with so many people.

[And he has fans who he sees repeatedly at fan meets enough to strike up conversations with, which only adds to the bulk. Not deep friendships, but a very wide network there to be pulled on as needed.]

Have you been putting on performances here, then? I know until quite recently there were issues surrounding the theatre, but it seems as though that's been resolved. Hopefully the musical instruments are close enough to what is used where you're from.

[Not that he himself is going to be playing the guqin any time soon with only one hand, but he's looked around out of curiosity and found zithers and all sorts of other things also not available in his time.]

I did one back during Eostre, but that was basically just to pave the way for if my partner showed up. It's lonely performing without him, and he's the one who writes all our music and stuff. So I both couldn't and don't want to move forward without him.

[Momo rests his head on his knees, his tone affectionate when he speaks about Yuki, but also determined. He's made well enough for himself here with his other skills that were things he and Yuki tended to be split up for back home as well, like radio hosting and modelling, and though Yuki's here briefly at the moment, it's not long enough to do anything with.]

I think the lack of electronic instruments here would be the biggest difference, but my darling plays a bunch of acoustics as well, so that'd work out.

Perhaps your partner will show up one day. [Jin Guangyao says sympathetically, unaware of the temporary presence.] I certainly never expected to see a familiar face or two when I arrived here, but it does seem that some groups are drawn together. I'm sure, having been here even longer than I, you've seen teh same pattern. There seems to be no help for the erratic timing, but I don't think it hurts to have a little faith.

[Which sounds nice, no matter how empty the words are, and that's the important part.]

[Momo's already opened the can of worms that is Yuki's temporary arrival with a few people, and he doesn't hugely want to talk about it right now, so he ends up being more broad in his response to avoid it.]

Yeah, I mentioned earlier a few people from my world turned up for this, so I guess it's hard to tell if any of them will come back permanently or different ones will arrive or what. I'm an optimistic kind of guy, so I wouldn't assume it could never happen, but I wouldn't feel right sitting around doing nothing until he showed up either.

[He's just dabbling in things that are easier and less painful to get footholds in solo but are still a perfectly fine way to make himself publicly known and thus in a better position to bring Yuki into that with him if he ever arrives more permanently.]
