Lan Xichen, Lan Sect Leader and The Only Adult ([personal profile] zewu_jun) wrote in [community profile] middaeg2020-05-14 10:15 pm

[semi-open] Lay me down let the only sound be the overflow

Who: Lan Xichen, cultivators, and friends!
When: Around mid-month
Where: Lakeside out beyond the Wall (near the forge)
What: swimming, sitting, sighing, and shedding
Warnings: F is for friends who do stuff together.

Everyone probably has their own reasons for being at the lake. For Lan Xichen, working in the forge tends to lead to overheating (especially when he's been fighting off certain stress levels) and the nearby water provides a good way to politely cool off. Maybe you met him on his way and decided to join in or maybe you were already there. After several days this becomes a regular pattern of work followed by an afternoon soak, so it's possibly just a nice diversion when things are a bit too much to handle.

Whether it is swimming, meditating, having a snack, or just enjoying the fresh air along the bank, there are plenty of ways to share time with friends. The only possible warning will come from Lan Xichen himself if it looks like an argument is brewing--he will intervene. He came explicitly for some quiet time, so if anyone starts a fight, they'll probably have a half-naked Lan there to break them up. Maybe that's your thing.

[ooc: This log is a free for all for swimming and lake side games. All our friends are invited to tag in and tag each other. Basically, make up whatever you would like as a starter and cut in wherever if people agree! Non-cultivator friends and 4th wallers also welcome. If you need a specific prompt added, poke me at [plurk.com profile] teaandreveries.]

[Momo holds his hands together under his chin, like he's considering how to describe what he's getting at.] It's usually done with a speedboat, which is kind of...a really small boat with a motor on the back. People usually tow them from their house to the beach with a car or automobile or whatever they call them in this time period.

[He makes a vague handwavy gesture back towards the city to make it a bit clearer that he's talking about the vanishingly rare motor vehicles that a few of the rich people in the city drive and almost nobody else. He hasn't seen many of them, but considering the location of the Haven, he's spent enough time around the Aristocratic District to know that they do exist here.]

I see. [ Despite his tone being just a touch dubious. It's not something he can picture, but that's something he's gotten somewhat accustomed to in discussion around here. ]

And this is a...sport?

[ Well, people will do all sorts of things, won't they. And that is absolutely not a hypocritical thought from someone who actively injured himself to win a friendly competition just because he could. ]

[Momo gives a sympathetic grin at the dubious look, because boy is he getting used to that kind of reaction from his time here.]

Yeah. Surfing's probably the bigger of the two, but wakeboarding can get really intense too if you throw in some ramps and stuff.

[Because clearly riding a board attached to the back of a speeding boat isn't a bad enough idea, you need to throw in ramps and various other things. Otherwise, is it truly bad enough of an idea to be dubbed a sport.]

[ Ramps. Percy's already-shaky mental image is getting more and more confused, but Momo does seem very certain of what he means. ]

And this is something you're hoping to do here?

[ He had brought it up rather quickly, after all. ]

I mean, it'd be nice, but it'd be difficult to make the boards...the shape's kinda specific to get the right dynamics and stability. I know they've made them out of wood in the past even if they mostly don't anymore in my world, but if this place doesn't have a history of them then someone would have to explain the right dynamics, and I'm not the right person for that.

[He knows enough about them to know that the shape and dynamics are important and those plus exact construction differ slightly by material, but he absolutely does not know enough to instruct someone on how to make a wooden board. Especially considering he typically uses the modern foam-and-fiberglass type, which is constructed differently.]

Also, I'd probably have to go out into the Wilde to get far enough from the harbour to not get hit by a boat, so that's a problem too.
