river cleanup - ota

[ admittedly, sylvia's not really a fan of doing cleanups, but the promise of compensation convinces her to give it a shot. besides, if it helps the merrow get around easier, even better. plus she'll be thankful for it later when she can go swimming once the heat really hits.

she's standing on a stone at the edge of the river, using it as her little spot to pick up trash. it's going relatively well and she's filling her bag with trash, but a particular piece floats on by. it's within arm's reach, but there's emphasis on the reach -- and sure enough, sylvia is going to take her chances and reach out for that piece of paper...

and then totally eat it and fall into the river. which wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't reaching out for the nearest person to try to keep herself steady and subsequently pulling them into the river with her.

whoops. ]

Guh -- sorry! Oh my god, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?!

an odd request - ota

[ after her spar with dimitri last month, sylvia's been thinking about a certain piece of essential equipment off and on. you wouldn't be able to tell that she's a fighter at a first glance -- athletic, sure, but a fighter without equipment on her? blasphemy. she wants to fix that, though, because she's realized the importance of being protected when you're in battle after being rammed in the chest.

she'll approach anyone who's armed with a weapon or wearing armor (or both) and tap on their shoulder. ]

Hey, sorry, I got a question for you. D'you know a thing or two about making light armor? Is light armor even a thing around here? [ a beat. ] Sorry, I know it's super random! It's just something I really need help with, if you don't mind helping a girl out!

full moon - 7th, ota

[ the full moon this time around is different than the last. sylvia feels herself transforming into something not like herself -- something more animal-like, and she feels more instinctual than logical. that last part isn't new, but those instincts feel stronger than ever. her eyes are bright and gold now as she roams the streets. it starts out a little aimless at first, just wanting to be in the company of others...then, it turns a little more sinister.

she picks a target at random and her grin turns into a smirk. she approaches them quietly and reaches into their pocket, snagging whatever's inside swiftly, dexterously. then, she'll tap on her target's shoulder and grin mischievously at them, holding up the item she'd stolen from them with her thumb and index finger. ]

[Oh no. Ohnoohnoohno. Bernie can see he's getting upset with what she has to say. And now he's looking at her.]

It's...it's not that! I just...

[Deep breath. She can do this.]

You've just been...really sad. And I think that if someone is making you sad then maybe you deserve someone better. You look like a really, um, nice person! But...

[She looks down, relaxing a little into this.]

But do you really want to be with someone who is just making you sad? People serve to be happy right? Maybe there's someone out there who can make you smile instead. So you don't have to hurt anymore.

[ see!! this is why she brought you along, bernie!! sylvia is impressed by her kind approach to all of this, and it gets the man to actually relax a little.

he still looks wary, but he's calmed down some. however, he has one very important question to ask:

"How do you know all of this?" ]

[She looks down and swallows. The best thing to do here is to be honest.]

She... She complained about your howling. I think that isn't fair for you. You should have someone who would want you to howl at them anytime! Because it would make them feel special!

[Bernie looks up again.]

I think there's someone out there just for you. Maybe even someone who will howl with you. Or put up job requests for people to get you nice things.

[ the man deflates when he hears about the complaint. he looks absolutely defeated and heartbroken -- but then bernie brings up the potential of him finding someone else. someone who will want him to howl at them...

"Heh," he laughs, "you know...you're alright, Miss."

he still looks sad. heartbreak isn't easy to get through, after all. but he does manage a little smile. "You think a lonely, noisy turnskin like me has a chance with someone?"

sylvia in the meantime brightens up and nods. ]

Absolutely, Sir! You care about this woman a lot, right? I think if you found the right person to care about in that way, they'd be real happy about it.

You seem really nice. Just sad. So I think you just haven't found your special someone yet.

[Looking around she sees a flower. Going to it, she picks it then puts a little charm on it.]

Here! For luck!

[Because it's something Fae are really good at. Little charms to help do certain things. In this case...bring him just a little bit of good luck.]

[ the man looks over at Bernie and takes the charm. he's got a fond little smile on his face when he does -- it's still a little sad, but hey...maybe this'll help. maybe this will work.

there's a glimmer of hope when he looks at her again.

"Alright, ladies. 'm sorry about the noise," he says apologetically, "but I'll take your advice. Thanks. Especially you, young lady." he turns to look at Bernie for a moment...and then, he returns into his house.

a moment passes...and there's no howling! sylvia turns to bernie, thoroughly impressed. ]

Well, look at you! See? I knew bringing you here was gonna be a huge help, and wow, you were awesome!

[It...it worked. She stares in disbelief as she watches him walk away. Close the door. Sylvia says she was a help but she is still trying to figure out if that's true.

But...he listened to her.]

I...I did that?

Uh-huh. That was all you, Bernadetta!

[ she's so proud of you, bernie. ]

I owe you one. There's no way that would've gone as smoothly as it did without you. So...why don't I treat you to ice cream?

I...

[Wow. She really did that? Bernie can hardly believe it and she ends up letting out a little laugh.]

You don't have to.

[But the flutter of her wings says she'd really love ice cream.]
