Event Log: May, An Inauspicious Arrival
I. Boaltinn (1st - 3rd)
The city has quite a bit to offer for this holiday: shared rose baths at public bathhouses and pleasure establishments that increase feelings of friendliness and talkativeness, poles draped in ribbons meant to be danced around, wrapping a ribbon around the pole to bring good luck for the summer, food stalls whose offerings are meant to be shared, and fortune-telling set up by Divination students of the Coven, who can tell your day is going to go. To see last year's Boaltinn prompts, you can take a glance right here! Much of it, including the bonfires, baths, and entertainments will be similar this year, so feel free to use those in your top levels. |
II. An Unusual Arrival (3rd on)
Those who are awake that night at 3 am might notice a pulse of harmless silvery light that spreads like ripples on water throughout the whole city, originating at the Looking-Glass House, but nothing further happens, and the Coven receives no answers. Well, nothing happens in the Looking-Glass House. Before long, the reports start coming in: people are emerging from mirrors, regular old mundane mirrors, all over the city. Anything with a particularly reflective surface could be an entry point for someone from another world! Inhabited homes, businesses closed and locked for the night, pools of still water in fountains or the river, these unorthodox Mirrorbound pop up anywhere and everywhere, causing chaos for the City Guard (folks aren't happy to find strangers in their bathrooms at 3 in the morning) and the Coven both. Out of nowhere, a glint of light catches your eye; your heart thunders in your ears as your body moves on its own, your mind consumed with inspecting the source. Your reflection stares back at you, just as curious from the surface - a mirror, a pool of water, your most trusted sword, something fleeting that your mind can barely remember - then ripples at your touch. If you are one of these unfortunate arrivals, it's likely a rude awakening for you, to find yourself somewhere inconvenient, somewhere other than where you've been. It only makes sense to be confused. Hopefully someone finds you and explains to you what's happened to you. Resident Mirrorbound will hear a message from Miss Nessie shortly after it begins, a call to arms: "Dears, I'm quite sorry to disturb you, but it seems your fellows are arriving elsewhere than the Looking-Glass House this month! We're trying to track them all down for the usual welcome, but we could use a hand or several! If you could just bring them by the Coven, the usual spot, that would be lovely." She'll give her usual orientation and pass out Watches, but no doubt the Mirrorbound will be more helpful in this regard, with so many arriving. |
III. The Goblin Market (All Month)
These sellers, while not as devoid of morals as those major players of the Black Market, still have very few compunctions when it comes to lying, cheating, fencing stolen goods, and misrepresenting their wares to unsuspecting buyers. It's also the place to find those things that are- not quite legal, shall we say. They won't say a word if you don't. If confronted, they are quick to pack up their things and slip away, however; they know this city and its hiding places a lot better than you do. With a brand new batch of what the natives assume are Mirrorbound, many undergoing rapid transformations into their Monster forms, many of the wares on display are potions: supposed cure-alls for aches and itches, calming draughts for the full moon restlessness, some even claim their brews can halt changes entirely! Some concoctions are meant to increase a Witch's magical ability, or decrease it, or provide them a finer control. They offer potions that they say will eliminate the need for a Bond, or temporary Bonding potions of their own that they claim are more pure, stronger, than the ones offered by the Coven. Claims are only claims, though. A few remedies for the pain of changing or some regular temporary Bonding potions can be found here and there, but for every potion that works, there are twenty more that have less than pleasant side effects. A brew that will cause everything you touch to turn to solid gold for up to an hour; a potion that will invert your sense of direction - trying to turn right will make you turn left, trying to go forward will cause you to walk backward; a potion that will remove all traction from your feet, causing you to slide around as if cobblestone are the slickest ice. Worse, some shadier vendors sell things more sinister, including a potion that gives you the appearance of being moderately to heavily infected by the Cwyld. Even if you don't drink any, the vendors are not at all careful where they're sloshing those bottles around, trying to show them off, and they all activate on skin contact. |
IV. A Wilde Hunt (7th - 22nd)
Monsters' aggression fades when the Sisters start to wane, but as the new moons approach on the 22nd, Mirrorbound Witches will notice their magical reserves overfilling, and will find themselves stricken with the overwhelming urge to use it, until casting spells, pushing one's magical limits, is almost a compulsion. Those who are not in proper Witch-Monster Bonds will feel it even stronger, with no stabilizing magic to consume (for Monsters) or avenues to expend magic (for Witches) other than casting spells. (For those who are interested, the Coven does offer temporary Bonding potions which can be used to help alleviate the effects somewhat.) The Coven Witches notice the signs, and they take decisive action on the morning of the 6th, the day before the full moons. So many Mirrorbound, likely to be so heavily affected by the lunar cycle this month, many of them coming into new features and abilities at a breakneck pace, only spells danger for the city. They barricade off a massive chunk of Wilde outside Aefenglom, largely free of Cwyld and totally bereft of farms, homes, and Wilder outposts. They invite anyone who feels the effects of the moons too strongly to control to come out for a Hunt. The hunting grounds will be open nightly to anyone who needs to work off restless energy or overflowing magic; all participants will be warned that their safety cannot be guaranteed from others, but they won't be able to harm bystanders out here. The woods are thick, with the river cutting through them, and full of wildlife. There is room to run and chase prey, or room to play with your developing magic. Play cat and mouse with your friends or Bondmates, or stalk a stranger. If playing games isn't your thing, there is something else to hunt out here as well. With the deep Wilde entering into Winter, this patch of land so close to the city is much warmer, and fearsome Shades have emerged to search for prey. These were once living beings, Monsters, Witches, or animals, who have been overtaken by Cwyld infection long ago, leaving them dead but for the infection, white-eyed and seeking out sources of magic to consume and infect. Anything could become a Shade, but the most common out right now are the ferocious remains of bears, wolves, and nomadic Arachne and Turnskins. If not killed, these Shades threaten the people of the Outer City, when they inevitably escape the barricade. Careful to limit your contact, though; anyone infected upon their return to the gates will be escorted straight to the infirmary. |

Hisui Hearts | Tales Of Hearts | Turnskin | OTA!
[ Does Hisui trust any of these vendors? Nope. He was actually looking for something at first (unaware that this fur problem isn't something that's just going to go away), but some of these particularly wild claims are giving him second thoughts. So is some of the recklessness he's seeing on display.
Especially when some of that nearly lands on him. ]
HEY! Watch where you're slinging that stuff!
[ Wilde Hunt - A ]
[ Given how poorly the goblin market went (and also just his time here in general...he really hopes Kor didn't catch him napping in that box the other day), he's reluctant to trust the offer for the Hunt. But...well, given how restless he's feeling, and the warnings he's heard...what's the harm in giving it a try? He could use the opportunity to stretch his legs a bit. It sounds like he won't be alone, at least. Which is really appealing, for some reason.
Hunting is normally one of Hisui's strengths. He knows his way around a bow and arrow, and has even fought his fair share of monsters with the dual crossbows strapped to his arms (which, sadly, haven't worked ever since he arrived). Hunting with claws and fangs, though? That's. Different. But for some reason, this new form of "hunting" comes a lot more naturally to him than he was ready for. Look closely on the full moon, and you might see a monstrous feline turnskin prowling about, thick black fur accented by streaks of ash grey. Maybe he's after a bear shade. Maybe he's after you. He doesn't have the best handle on this whole turnskin thing just yet, but he at least has enough of his senses not to harm any actual people. For now. ]
[ Wilde Hunt - B ]
[ Of course, after the full moon, Hisui is back to being a lot less feline than before...safe for several traits that (unfortunately) decided to stick around. He's never going to hear the end of it with these cat ears...
But he's still got some energy to work off, so he can still be found here trying to get a handle on things. Gruff as he can be, he's not interested in being a danger to others. Not that that helps much if he accidentally pounces on you. ]
HAH! That was easier than I-
[ And his triumphant smile vanishes as quickly as it appears when he realizes just who he's pounced at. Whoops.
...in his defense, he thought you were a wolf or something. ]

CLOSED to Kor
He can't argue that they need to rest once it gets dark out, though. Well, he could, but any attempts he makes get shut down fairly quickly, so he reluctantly picks a spot and tries to get some sleep. He's worried about Kohaku. Quite frankly, he's not into the idea of her being stuck alone in the desert with Kor. Who knows what could end up happening? Kor might be genuine in his desire to help put her Spiria back together, but-... But...
His thoughts trail off as something catches his attention out of the corner of his eye, illuminated by the small campfire everyone is gathered around. You'd think he wouldn't be so drawn to his own reflection, but something about this time is. Different. Before he knows it, he's reaching out and-
-tumbles head-first into god-knows-where with a startled yelp.
It happens so quickly he only barely catches sight of what just happened or where he is, the sudden shift in light doing him no favors. Even his yell is cut short when he lands face-first in what appears to be more water...but definitely not the kind he's eager to drink, even after wandering through a desert.
What follows is a frantic attempt to disentangle himself from whatever position he's landed himself in, interlaced with varying flavors of "WHAT THE HELL?!", some a bit easier to make out than others.
Could today possibly get any worse? Yes. Yes, it could. ]
no subject
What isn't part of his routine? Loud noises coming from next to the toilet. When he hears the crash, he tries to ignore it at first. If something fell, he'll just get it when he's done. But then comes the yelling. That yelling... definitely didn't sound like Yuma's voice, or that weird voice he's been starting to hear on occasion, but it does sound oddly familiar. Familiar enough to cause him to hop right out of the shower.]
Huh? What the he--
[And that's when he spots an all-too-familiar figure squatting over his toilet. He'd recognize that jacket anywhere!]
H...Hisui! Hisui, when did you get here?!
[Kor asks him this, while standing in the middle of his bathroom, shower still running in the background while he's stark naked and dripping wet, shame hanging out for all the world to see. Or at least for Hisui to see.]
no subject
As he's pushing himself to his feet, he turns and...yep, that's definitely Kor. That is, without a doubt, undeniably, Kor Meteor. But it's a lot more Kor Meteor than Hisui was really ready (or willing) to see. ]
What do you mean, when did I- GAAH!
[ ...okay, all things considered, he should be at least a little relieved, given the whole giant sandworm thing, not to mention the fact that his sister is supposed to be with this guy. But this, in particular, is the last thing he needs right now. He's not even sure he wants to punch him in this state. ]
Damnit, kid! Put some clothes on!
[ Not that he's going to wait for Kor to do so. Nope, no way, no thank you, not today satan, Hisui immediately makes for the nearest door so he doesn't have to keep looking at that. It might take him a second; he's still a bit disoriented and none of this is helping. ]
no subject
...Well, good to see Hisui is just like he remembers him. As Hisui exits the bathroom, Kor turns and tries to chase after him.]
Hisui, wait! Where are you--
[And then Kor pauses in the doorway. Not because Hisui told him to put some clothes on, no. It's because as he tries to leave, he's suddenly hit with an intense draft that sends a chill through him. Only then does he register that he's naked and should cover up if he's going to chase after Hisui.
He grabs a towel and tightly wraps it around his waist, and then goes after Hisui. Pants can wait until later!]
no subject
Wherever "here" is. He's still a little too frazzled to make heads or tails of anything, and the unfamiliar setting is only adding to that. Luckily, he isn't too frazzled to forget one very crucial thing: If Kor is here, then... ]
Kohakuuu! Kohaku, where are you?!
[ Where the hell is this place? How did he go from the desert to here? He can sort that out once he knows his sister is safe. And he'll do so by checking any room and door he can possibly manage. (All the while tracking sand everywhere. Have fun with that, Kor. You won't believe how full his shoes got after that sandstorm.) But the more he searches, the more hopeless things look. There's not a single sign of his sister anywhere.
Eventually, Hisui stumbles upon the front door, where he abruptly pauses, wide-eyed. This...isn't the desert. This isn't even remotely the desert. How is he in a desert one moment and in some weird house in an even weirder city the next? ]
What the... This some sorta bad dream or what?
no subject
Hisui! There you are.
[He covered up at least, Hisui. Sorry for the lack of pants. You interrupted his shower.]
no subject
Yeah, wherever here is.
[ Seriously. Hisui's got so many questions he has no idea where to even start. And now that he's settled down just a bit, he can actually voice them.
He backs away from the door, kicking it closed behind him and turning towards Kor with a furious expression. You better start talking, Kor. Fast. Hisui is very short on patience right now. ]
Where the hell are we? Where's Kohaku? If you let anything happen to her since we got separated back there, I'll separate your teeth from your face!
no subject
I dunno... I haven't seen her since I got here, so I guess she's waiting back in Dronning still?
no subject
Wha... Dronning?
[ ... Yeah, okay. Not a single part of that computes. He's almost too confused to be mad. Almost. He'll just settle for being both. ]
What'd you do, breathe in too much sand? Last time I checked, we were all fighting back sandworms in the middle of the desert!
[ He's heard his share of crap from this guy, but this is a whole new level. There's no way they could've gone nearly that far in less than a day, let alone have any reason to go there when they're busy headed for Prinseur. He's onto you, Kor.
...although none of this is helped by the fact that Kor is standing there wrapped in a towel, either. Seriously, what did Hisui do to deserve any of this? ]
no subject
[Sandworms? Geez, Hisui, just because Kor recently relived that memory doesn't mean it was recent. That was ages ago!]
Did you hit your head on the toilet or something? That was a long time ago, Hisui!
[If it were anybody else, Kor would be understanding of their confusion and try to figure it out with them.
...But it's Hisui, and that guy has a natural talent at making Kor just as angry as he is.]
no subject
The hell are you talking about?! I was just there a few seconds ago!
[ This is making less and less sense the longer this goes on, and Hisui's temper is already short as it is. Not only because he's sick of seeing Kor's dumb face - as well as the rest of him - but also because his worry over his younger sibling is growing by the minute.
He lifts his fist in a threatening gesture he's used plenty of times before. ]
You better have a real good explanation for this, kid. And if anything, and I mean anything happened to Kohaku, I'm gonna make you wish that sandworm ate you!
[ He's been worried sick ever since they were separated (though in true Hisui fashion, he displays it in his usual prickly manner), but he had no choice but to trust Kor would see his sister to safety. And that trust is already fragile enough as it is. ]
no subject
Like an... older Hisui. He doesn't really get how time works, but... did this world bring a Hisui from his past? He's acting like the desert just happened...]
I-I really don't have an explanation! [He waves his hands in front of him.] At least... not the kind you want! But...
[there's a pause, as he takes a deep breath and tries to collect himself.]
I don't really know what's going on here, but the stuff that happened in Schehera Desert? That was a long time ago for me. But I kept Kohaku safe and we all found each other again. We even kicked that sandworm's butt afterwards!
[Spoilers. But you know Kor wouldn't lie to you. He doesn't know how to lie.]
no subject
But just because Kor is serious about helping Kohaku recover doesn't mean Hisui has to like the guy, though, and certainly not even that is enough to get him to believe a story this wild. ]
How can something that was a long time ago for you be only a minute ago for me? For all I know, you're just making all this up-
[ It's at this point that Hisui catches a glance at the window nearby. He'd been so busy yelling at Kor that he hadn't noticed just how out-of-place he was. Unfamiliar scenery, a few less-than-normal-looking inhabitants passing by... ]
What the...
[ His head is starting to hurt. Yeah, no, forget the desert and the time confusion. Just where the hell is he? ]
no subject
I wouldn't make this up, Hisui! Cross my Spiria and hope to die, I wouldn't! I swear!
[Kor's sincerity was coming across plain as there, he was serious about this.]
I don't understand why your memories are different from mine, but... What I can tell you is that is Aefenglom. It's a city of magic and monsters, and... We're not on Organica anymore.
no subject
Well, you got the "monster" part right. Last time I checked, we didn't have giant wolves walking around town in broad daylight.
[ Not every day you see a snake person slithering by, either. The rest of what Kor says, though... What, they're on another planet? How does that even-
But when he turns to ask him this, he's struck with a cruel reminder of Kor's rather unfortunate state. ]
How 'bout you explain this to me after you go put on a pair of pants? I'm getting sick of seeing you like that!
[ Unless you want to catch a cold. Just don't expect Hisui to heal you.
Because he can't.]no subject
[For real, Hisui. Sheesh, a guy tries to get clean and this is the thanks he gets. Maybe you've got sand in more places than you'd like to admit.
Kor walks back into the house. Give him a couple minutes, he's gotta dry off and turn off the water and get dressed and leave a note for Yuma about where he is in case this takes a while.
But soon enough, Kor comes back out, dressed in a much more familiar looking outfit as he ruffles his fingers through the back of his hair trying to shake out the last bits of water.]
no subject
Hisui takes the nearest seat he can, scrubbing his face and groaning in frustration. Of all the bizarre things to happen to him on this trip, ending up on a completely different world was far from the top of his list. At least the sunlight still feels nice. A lot nicer than from how harsh it was in the desert, that's for sure. It's making him a little tired, actually.
Then again, he was just about to go to sleep before everything happened. He'd probably be tired either way. Yeah, that's probably it.
When Kor arrives again, Hisui - who had been on the edge of dozing off - sits up and folds his arms. Okay. Interrogation, take two. Let's go. ]
About time.
[ Doesn't mean he isn't still going to throw a few jabs around, though. ]
So what the hell is this place? And what's with the freaky monster people walking around?
[ That's probably gonna earn him some stares if one of those "freaky monster people" happens to hear him. And unknown to either somatic, Hisui doesn't have a whole lot of room to talk. ]

Wilde Hunt B
Her hands tremble against the ground, fingers digging into the earth as they curl tensely. Slowly her head turns to glare daggers at her attacker, the scrunched features of her face his cue to run for it now. If he doesn't, it might be his turn to fall prey to the brand spanking new faun leg that she swings up right between his legs. Her legs might be a different shape, but they still had all the strength a dance possessed still, and then some. ]
no subject
And he more than takes the cue; Hisui is quick to scramble off of his would-be prey and out of the way. Monsters in this world are still people, after all; hard to really deny that when he ended up one of them. And pouncing on people, horns or not, is probably looked down on here.... ]
Hey, uh... [ This is awkward. ] Sorry 'bout that. I thought you were one of those shades or somethin'.
[ He's not about to admit to being a little over-eager to pounce on something, though. Absolutely not. ]
no subject
[ You're not helping your case, dude.
As soon as he moves off her, Chiantsu rises back onto her hooves---sort of. She's still wobbly, which probably makes the glare she's shooting him less threatening. ]
And aren't you supposed to, like, not touch them?
no subject
[ He was in hunting mode, he heard a noise, he had to pounce, okay? Besides, there's only so much he can see from where he was hiding in the bushes. (Granted, he could've been a bit more careful either way, but still)
Hisui's cat-like ears lay flat against his skull in frustration, his tail twitching. Geez, he didn't come here to have arguments with random strangers. ]
Better than letting any of them get the jump on me. Ain't they supposed to be tough?
[ Granted, he'd probably still prefer to take them out with his Soma...if it still worked here. Alas, crossbows or no, he's still not about to let any shade get past him. ]
no subject
[ Was he blaming her? ]
I was out here [ one wobbly step. ]
Minding my own business [ and another. ]
When YOU came out of no where like a bat out of hell! [ Once she's standing in front of him, she jabs her finger on his chest. And now she's grabbing onto his shoulders with an iron grip. Not because she almost lost her balance or anything like that. ]
And you're supposed to not touch them. I'm surprised you haven't been infected yet.
no subject
[ If he weren't so busy being grumpy maybe Hisui would develop an appreciation for how he ended up with paws instead of hooves.
Although he's certainly had moments where he's tripped over his own feet but shhh that's not important]Of course I ain't infected! I haven't run into any yet!
[ "Yet", he says. But also he's hoping he doesn't have a run-in with any of them in the first place; eager as he is to hunt something down, they seem far from pleasant to deal with. ]
no subject
[ She says, with a stomp of her hoof. ]
You try walking in hooves! And maybe instead of running towards them you should be trying to get away!
