( the cold air feels even colder when he watches yosuke and yu, the latter feeling some kind of remorse over making the decision to apparently not do something. that alone is surprising, and while lio wishes he had a better idea as to why the one youth was crying, the other is... doing his best. he looks like he's just as uncertain as lio is. even knowing that he's trespassing on these memories, the former burnish can't help but feel remorseful for the both of them.

after all, pain and sorrow is very much a universal feeling. )

Who is Nanako...?

( obviously someone important, and he taps his chin in thought. )

[ His hands were stuffed in his pockets as he watched the heartbreaking memory. He wasn't sure why this was being brought up in his mind. He still didn't quite understand what was going on here, why others were able to just... walk in on all this. ]

His cousin. And uh... she'd died. And he put a stop to us making a huge mistake in wanting revenge on the wrong guy for it.

[ He still felt really ashamed of that too. Now that they knew who was really behind the murders. ]

He sounds strong.

( which makes his outburst even more striking: to have the clarity to not accuse the incorrect person, to stay rational despite being emotional--- all while losing someone so close? he hates hearing about that pain, something that he can easily empathize with. )

Tell me that you found the one who truly did it.

Yeah, he is.

[ He's very strong. ]

We did. We found him and stopped him from hurting anyone else. [ He offered a small smile then. ] She woke up too.

[ It was a straight up miracle that none of them dared question either. ]

um. what.

She died, and then she came back to life once you stopped him?

( because 'stopped' certain can mean more than one thing, and if for some reason their lives were connected in some way? )

It sounds like he deserved it. I'm glad...

( and then lio pauses, looking down. )

I'm sorry you've had to deal with something like that.

No, sorry, that came out in the wrong order.

[ The scene before them didn't change too much and he vaguely remembered stepping through a mirror, so Yosuke turned to try and find that again. ]

Nanako-chan woke up... a day or two? after that.

[ He nodded toward the scene again. ]

We caught the murderer about a month later, just before Christmas.

( ah. well, that sounds a little more believable!--- just barely, though. )

... good that she's okay. But an entire month to track someone down? They must've been well hidden.

( if it were lio, he might've burned down an entire city to find who tried to kill someone he loved. he might do it anyway. )

And how did you punish him?

( seeing yu sob makes his heart ache again. it's... tough. )

We knew where he went from the start, it was getting to him that was the issue. He was able to get away with it for so long too, he was a detective.

[ He hated that he was a detective. It was just so wrong! Nanako's father had been his partner, and Naoto was a prodigal detective. So why'd this guy have to go and ruin it all? Why'd he-... he sighed, anger fleeting as soon as it came.

Yosuke knew why and he hated it. ]

We beat the crap out of him and then handed him over to the authorities. He's in jail now and pretty unlikely to ever get out.

[ To put it mildly. ]

( lio pales. it's one of those things that deeply bothers him; the abuse of power, of someone who should be the epitome of justice being the complete opposite. it says that whoever this man is, he's... inhuman.

he can feel the sigh, the anger from yosuke. it resonates with him too. )

Good. That's where someone like him belongs.

( and then he looks back at yosuke. )

Does your friend have a mirror here too?

Yeah, I think so. Hopefully not this place though.

[ It was a sad memory but likely worse for Yu. ]

What about you? Got a mirror here too?

( he blinks, nodding slowly. if the mirror could pull a memory like this, lio is positive of two things: one, his would probably be... rough. but also, it would give him a chance to maybe see galo again. )

I do. Honestly, it's not far from yours.

( looking down, lio closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. )
