No, I am a Witch by designation here. [The Aefenglom idea of Vampires is weird to Maria anyway. Give her a month or so, and Edelgard will call her a vampire, and not actually be incorrect, based on a lot of other factors. However, Maria herself sees too many differences between what most people consider a vampire and what the Vilebloods actually are.

Also, she hates Vilebloods, and is only moderately not okay with vampires; in fact, she likes them more than a lot of other Monster types here, and that's saying something. So. Progress?

Oh yes. I'm already in the process of distilling some roses that are native to Dorchacht. Their oils can produce a hallucinogenic effect. Growing magical flowers is a bit different than normal ones, but it's one of my next steps for my garden. Still... I'm working on my other areas of magical study before I get into alchemy. It's on my list for later.

Yes, it has an ability to incapacitate people. It was how the roses were hunting, when we first encountered them. They use their thorns to sink into flesh and draw out the blood of their prey, draining them.

[So, hallucinogenic vampire roses. And this is why Maria is growing them.] But the extract could have a few interesting uses. However, for all of that, I had a different project in mind.

[She gets to work on another plant - it's a transplant, and she's very careful about making sure the new, bigger pot has the right soil, and balance, as she speaks, before she starts eyeing what she is transplanting.] ... I was going to see about distilling it into a gin.

I'm not sure about the mercantile applications of it. I may keep it simply for personal use for myself and friends. I'm still undecided.

[Though, truth be told, she does have a place she could sell it to that would make her some extra pocket change on the side, and would be appreciated - Diplomatea. No use talking about potentials when nothing is set in stone. She raises an eyebrow.] Besides, gin is much more palatable and mixable than absinthe. Much of the effect could be retained without the taste being overpowering.

[Not that she hasn't had absinthe, but it is definitely not her favorite thing in the world.]

Well, then you'd truly not like it were I to put it in absinthe instead. [It's bitter and anise-y to wine's relatively sweet, dry taste.] Gin is most versatile as an alcohol, I believe, but there's nothing to say that such things could not be put into wine or brandy. It simply seemed most logical to start with the gin.

[To the other point, though, she shakes her head.] No, still growing the flowers. I'm trying to get them to a consumable level - I discovered them when winter was settling in, so it's been slow going. By this summer I'm hoping to start really digging into it.
