["loki day" isn't a holiday that's celebrated in ancient fantasy china, big surprise. so wei wuxian had never had an official excuse to play his pranks. but after speaking to hiccup, and learning about his god of mischief and the day set aside for him-
well, some traditions should just be kept alive, if you ask him. especially the ones that appeal to his nature as both wei wuxian and a puca.
so he arranges a few pranks - mostly harmless, but annoying. he attaches books and bottles of alcohol to a string, ready to yank them away should someone reach for them. he fixes plates of dumplings with strange fillings and sets a table up, inviting others to try them. and then there's his own personal favorite - buckets of fertilizer over a door, just waiting for someone to walk through it.
very "organic" fertilizer.
if he had known about loki day while still a teenager back in cloud recesses, he'd probably still be kneeling in the courtyard.]

he should've left right then, because sometimes trouble finds him even when he's not looking for it. someone pushes someone, who pushes into wei wuxian, who pushes into someone else. when no apology comes, the former necromancer shoots back with a dirty look and some alcohol-fueled words.]
Hey, hey, watch it! Aiya, look at this, you made me spill my drink! Which means you owe me another.

bar brawl
This isn't exactly the situation he prefers to see them in, though, and smelling the fight coming from a mile away, Momo quickly slides between both parties, a smile on his face and his hands up peaceably.]
Come on, I bet you guys can talk this out. It seems like it was an accident, so would you take an apology?
[Despite the relative optimism of his approach, there's nothing hesitant about Momo's intervention - it's clear that while he doesn't want a fight to break out, he's not scared of the prospect.]
no subject
[he's like a balm to wei wuxian's anger. the tension that was radiating from the former necromancer is suddenly gone, replaced by a grin on his lips as he throws his arm around the other's shoulder.]
Ey, Momo, have a drink with me, huh? Lan Zhan won't mind if I stay a little longer if it's you.
[especially when he hears how he kept his bonded out of trouble for once. and as much as wei wuxian enjoys a good fight every now and then, a drink with a friend is a better use of his time.
hopefully the other party will agree and leave it at that. wei wuxian turns his back on everyone else to sit back down at the bar.]
One more and one for my friend!
no subject
And he's more than happy to come over for a drink, sitting on the bar stool and propping one leg up on the seat so he can lean on his knee with a knowing sort of grin on his face.]
Hiding from your partner, are you? Yuki always used to get mad when I got back from drinking parties at midnight, though I guess they just want what's best for us.
[Momo shrugs cheerfully. When he's genuinely trying to hide from Yuki, he tends to go to cafes these days for more plausible deniability, though Yuki's gotten into the habit of calling around to their friends to shoot down Momo's inevitable lies in advance before actually nailing Momo for it. Given it's usually because Momo doesn't want to bother him with something on his mind.]
no subject
[there's a sheepish grin on wei wuxian's face though. it's true, he's not hiding! ...he's not hiding because lan wangji knows exactly where he's at. but when he does go home (and probably close to midnight), there's a good chance that his partner will be a little mad at him too.
and really, there's nothing worse than the silent treatment from a guy who's too quiet in the first place. it's almost eerie. a shiver even goes down wei wuxian's spine, but he chases it with the warmth of alcohol.]
And if they would just come drinking with us sometimes, we wouldn't be hiding at all, right? Everyone would be happy.
[what's best for him. lan zhan is what's best for him, and he frowns to himself for a moment. but he shouldn't too much. at least he has his partner here to get in trouble with. he glances over at momo for a second or two before smiling again.]
Momo, I know I'm not Yuki, but I want the best for you too. [wei wuxian pats him on the shoulder a few times.] Eh - that reminds me, are you Bonded yet?
no subject
He's also not too picky about his drinks, so he takes whatever it was Wuxian even ordered for them, only giving it a cursory sniff to make sure it's not rubbing alcohol tier moonshine before taking a sip.]
Yuki comes sometimes, he's just not a people person, so he ends up wallflowering if it's not a more personal occasion. [He'll come drinking with their juniors or Momo and his ex-partner, but bigger gatherings than that tend to have Yuki on the wall while Momo pours drinks for everyone else and grills them for information.
Remarking on that also gives him a few more moments before he has to answer that follow-up question, offering a reassuring smile.] I've sorted that stuff out, yeah. I'm guessing you already bonded with your partner? I'm pretty sure Zewu-jun called my radio show because you guys keep heckling him about getting a bond.
[Truly a textbook execution of diverting the conversation from Momo's own "bond" so he doesn't have to mention that it's a Familiar bond and not a true bond. He didn't outright lie, and that's about the best one can ask from Momo when it comes to his own wellbeing.]
no subject
he smiles at the description, looking down into his cup at his dark and wavering reflection on the surface of the liquid.]
Your Yuki really sounds familiar. [he looks over at him, brightening visibly.] Momo, that's a relief! Can you believe we've already been here as long as we have?
[not that he and lan zhan wasted any time with their bond, but wei wuxian forget to answer that question when the subject of lan xichen comes up. he laughs softly, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.]
Eh - he did? Heckling's a strong word, I wouldn't say we're "heckling" him.
[the last part said under his breath, before he takes another drink.]
no subject
[Look at all of these options to describe not leaving someone alone about their bond life choices. Not that Momo can entirely blame him, because Xichen definitely does seem hesitant to form a bond without external pressure and it is kind of necessary to have something to cycle your magic as a Witch.]
But yeah, it's been a while, hasn't it? It doesn't feel as long as I would've thought, but I guess trying to get used to this place might've made time fly. I'm sure it'll wear off after a while.
[He's already missing Yuki and it's only likely to get worse the longer he's here, so he's already basically resigned himself to that.]
no subject
[and he likes to think that that's what they've been doing. for him, it's as much for lan zhan's sake. he knows he worries for his brother, and probably even more because he's fortunate enough to have his bond secured. he would feel the same way if jiang cheng were here.]
You're probably right. [he barely even thinks about how long they've been here now, but he wonders if he's not more the exception than the rule. he does have his own reasons for it, looking thoughtfully at momo before sharing.] Hey Momo, if Yuki were here, how much would you care about leaving? [maybe a weird question, he doesn't know. but he does have his reasons for asking.] Because I don't want to. As weird as it is, I'd rather live my life out with Lan Zhan right here.
no subject
In any case, he moves on, arching his brows a bit at that question. He hums a little like he understands where the other man is coming from, but he only takes a moment to consider his own reply.]
I think it'd make things easier for a little while, if I was going to be here, say...getting towards a year or more, like some people have mentioned. But I couldn't live out a whole life here without returning home. Yuki is the most important person to me, but I still have a lot of others I'd miss too much, and things I couldn't just leave hanging. So I'm not one of those people who'd stay here if I was given the option.
[There's a certain level of understanding to his tone, as if to say he can see the reasoning of why others might want to, but it's not for him.]
no subject
[the words are murmured a little guiltily. he misses jiang cheng. he doesn't like thinking about never seeing shijie again either. he made promises to the both of them, ones that he hasn't fulfilled.
and he knows he never will.]
Hey Momo... [wei wuxian takes a breath. but his serious expression morphs into a smile before he looks at him. why burden someone else with his sadness, he never does.] Let's have a drink! You can even crash at our place if you want!
no subject
So he tables it for now, instead rolling with the other man's suggestion and waving a hand to get the bartender over again.] I don't mind another drink, but you don't have to worry about accommodating me, I don't have anyone else in my house to wake up with coming home late. And I'm used to finding my way home drunk.
[Back in the day when he lived with Yuki, it wasn't uncommon for him to return home past midnight absolutely rinsed from drinking parties with industry bigshots. It's how he got so heavyweight in the first place.] Besides, I don't think I want to be the third wheel to you explaining to your partner why you're back so late.
bar brawl
and he's just about nearing his shift when there's an unfortunate jostling amongst the crowd, someone bumping into his side. he's about immovable as a wall at this point. viren peers at the individual, accompanied by an eye roll and a tired exhale. ]
I don't owe you another drink.
[ even having foregone wearing his typical, nice clothes this evening, knowing he put them at risk for a mess, viren still likely looks out of place - much too put-together among drunken sailors and other company. ]
You may wish to look [ he makes a gesture ] elsewhere, if you're to demand that.
no subject
wei wuxian's eyes follow the gesture, and he tries to focus on the rest of the crowd. a few are still a little rowdy. his puca senses are telling him that this is a dangerous situation, but his wei wuxian senses are choosing to ignore that.]
Alright pops, which one was it? [the one who bumped into him.] Point him out and I'll get your apology and my drink.
no subject
I'm not pointing you in the direction of a potential fight, either.
[ he lifts his chin. ]
Wait five minutes. Then my shift ends, and then you can go about getting your apology, and drink — however you plan on that.
[ "No Fun Allowed" - Viren. ]
no subject
Hey, hey, tell me something. Why do you even come to a bar if it's not to have a good time?
[because apparently by wei wuxian's definition, a little overindulgence followed by a spirited brawl is a hell of a lot of fun. but the rest of the man's words swim their way to his brain, and maybe it starts to make a little more sense.]
You work here?
no subject
[ his eyebrows raise. ]
Would that answer your first question, then?
