"Everyone begins their journey and training somewhere. I was not a master of the sword when I first began learning. Nor was Rider instantly one of the greatest generals known to man. It took time and painful lessons for all of us."
Which is a bit more of a lecture than she intended on delivering, but she feels like the point bears emphasizing.
"If I allowed you to strike me in order to spare your feelings, that could prove fatal to you in the future, when you may be fighting someone who has no inclination to to spare your feelings or your life."

"Yeah, yeah... I know. I'm not an idiot. I get it."

She offers him a hand up.
"I think you are quite capable. You have the mind to be a sword-fighter of sorts. You simply need the training."

Waver grumbles, but he looks up and takes her hand when it's stretched out, allowing himself to be hoisted back up to his already-sore legs and stand.
Saber is so serious, but it's an earnest and focused sort of seriousness, not dismissive or unnecessarily harsh. She's doing exactly what Waver asked her to. So he stops complaining, for now, and lets his hand drop to his side.
"...thank you."
What does of sorts mean? His eyebrows crease in a faint frown, but he doesn't push it.
"I appreciate you taking the time."

"Ideally, we would practice every day but I understand if it isn't feasible for you. Shall we start with twice a week?"
no subject
"All right." He nods, wondering if he's going to be too sore to make it to the next lesson. Good thing Iskandar's a healer... He can probably help. Why is learning self defense so much damn work?
"Twice a week it is."
A pause.
"...by the way. I don't expect you to donate your time and skills for nothing. I can pay you for the effort."
no subject
"I offer this freely and to help you. Not out of any sense of wanting to profit. It will help me stay in practice as well."
