The pain lessens as the young, new wings are allowed to break free. There's room for them to grow now, flesh and bone shifting and pushing. It isn't all that pretty to look at, but it's not full of gore, so small favors. Some of the tension seems to bleed out of Saber's body as the wings begin to push more fully out of her - black-brown-red feathers that stretch out behind her, shifting and flexing against the air.

"Wings. Why wings...?" Saber murmurs. At least most of the pain seems to be ebbing now.

Going by how much of them have sprouted by now, it should be over soon. When folded up, it seems they'd cover most of her back - and when extended, she'll have a decent big of wingspan!

"Don't trouble yourself with that for now. Looks like they're nearly done," Byleth murmurs, keeping Saber's hands in her own. "They're... coming through cleanly, for what it's worth. No blood or mess..." Her expression shifts a bit as she considers next steps. It wouldn't do to just leave Saber here once her wings are finished emerging, after all.

Saber shudders once more. There's a final crack of bone and muscle and then it seems like it's finished. Saber breathes heavily. Once, twice, trying to let the ache and pain subside. This has not been a good night so far, but she's at least beyond the new growth. The wings twitch as the night breeze catches them, but stay folded in against her back. She's not willing to try and move them just yet. It's still too new, too alien.

"I think... I think it is finished," she glances up at Byleth and through the bond there is a trace of shame and hurt at having to deal with this. At making Byleth deal with her.

"I... am sorry. For troubling you."

A wave of reassurance and warmth comes through the bond, as she shakes her head.

"Saber," Byleth murmurs, moving a hand to brush a bit of hair out of her Bonded's face, "I knew what I was agreeing to. I'm just glad that you're all right."

Saber still looks a little pale and drawn, a few beads of sweat still standing out on her forehead, but she's recovering relatively quickly. She glances at Byleth and for a moment she's not quite sure what to say. There's the brush of fingers against her face as hair is brushed out of the way and Saber feels a rush of warmth to her face.

"Still. I didn't intend to make trouble for you..." She frowns, "...but - thank you. Without you, I'm not sure how this full moon would've transpired. I owe you much."

The moment feels oddly intimate and she isn't sure how to deal with that.

"...even if my nightgown is now ruined."

Byleth laughs quietly, shaking her head as she pulls away to sit on the grass next to her. "I'll buy you a new one. It's the least I can do," she says, "given the circumstance."

She gives Saber a sidelong look, like she's not sure about... whatever this moment is, either. It's odd, and the bond isn't helping. "Do you need help to get back inside?"

"It would've been ruined anyway," Saber points out as she settles into the grass and spreads herself out. She doesn't mind the half-nakedness; she's never been terribly self-conscious, unless someone was trying to draw specific attention to her gender. And she can still drape most of it over herself like a blanket. It's just split down the back, obviously.

There's another moment of silence, her breathing still a touch ragged. What does she say? What do either of them say, really?

"I... don't believe so, but thank you for your kindness. I think I would rather stay out here for a little while longer."

She rolls over onto her front with a wince, pillowing her head against her hands, and tentatively stretching out her new wings. She has quite the wingspan, honestly, and moving them feels odd and strange. New limbs that she doesn't know what to do with.

"...such an odd feeling."
