I. Magic
A
[Newt had grown up with magic as part of his life for as long as he could remember. It was a part of him. It was rather jarring to feel the differences; similar to having something being turned on its head. There was just a constant reminder that it didn't feel quite right and Newt had been doing his hardest to remedy that.
Not having magic at his disposal had certainly been a tad difficult to. He was no stranger of getting by without it, but there were a lot of things that he had used magic for that he no longer could do.
Hitting the books and studying whenever he could made him a familiar face at the library and the Coven.
The magizoologist can be found in the courtyard with a few books stacked next to him. There was a cup of tea placed on top of the stack. A spoon placed inside the cup was stirring itself while Newt had his nose in a book. There was loose pages of notes littered around the man and there was a single page and quill floating next to Newt as he studied. Once in awhile, the man would pause and test some spells. Nothing too extravagant, but the man seemed doing well enough.]
B
[If one doesn't catch Newt at the Coven doing magic, he can easily be found at Tymael's Apothecary. Mixing potions, thankfully, doesn't really change no matter where you are.] Oh- I- Please. I wouldn't add that in yet. It needs to brew a tad longer before that gets added in.
[Is he saying that out of experience or what?]
C
[Ever the busy bee, Newt can also be found at a rune shop. Runes here was rather fascinating to Newt. Runes back home was more of an ancient language than what it is here and he was rather fascinated by it. Enchantments weren't a stranger to him though. Newt currently had a quill tucked between his teeth as he held a scroll up to examine his own work; making sure that it was acceptable enough before rolling it up.]
II. Petagorium
[The pet shelter was honestly where Newt was thriving the most. Handling beasts of all sorts was something he had done all his life and he was quick to leap on the opportunity to assist. Honestly, he would have easily agreed to assisting there even without being paid. It was just a passion of his.
The man seemed to be much more relaxed and much more open than he usually was. He could be heard laughing a bit at times. Sometimes he could be found with a flock of pollies perched on every possible part of the man; the birds curiously tugging at parts of his clothing and chirping happily. Maybe one hears a yelp and find the man on the floor; having been tackled by a pantherhound and now had a pile of them curled up around him and purring loudly like giant house cats. Sometimes Newt can be found with the mantibles with Pickett. He can be crouched with his journal open and quill scratching as he drew sketches of them while Pickett sat on his shoulder and made small chattering noises.
There's always a loving smile on Newt's face. He seemed very much in his element and enjoying himself quite a bit.]
III. Zouwu
[Newt is all about be sufficient about the tasks he puts himself too. Newt wasn't weak by any means, but strength really meant little when you decidedly use your elephant sized cat as a vehicle to deliver letters.
It works out. Greg gets plenty of exercise and they get work done quickly. Zouwus were known for being fast travelers; being able to travel thousands of miles a day if they wanted to, so going through the streets was no problem. It helped Newt with familiarizing himself with the city and it was a positive experience from his large feline friend.
Of course, one might be a bit taken aback when a giant cat seems to be stampeding right towards them. Hopefully, you don't get too frightened when you see Greg barreling towards you. It's fine. Greg either stops before it can accidentally barrel some over or the creature leaps over crowds with no problem. No need to fear!
The zouwu will stop here and there and the man will climb down from the Zouwu's back. He had equipped a saddle and saddlebags to the Zouwu and has filled the bags with the countless letters he was delivering. The large cat will sit obediently, but look around him curiously. Maybe stop to stare at a person or two with large eyes.]
IV. Dance
A
[Flirting and seducing? Definitely not Newt's strong suit. He doesn't know how he got here exactly, but now he feels socially obligated to stay.
He isn't sure how he got dragged into this, but he definitely looks like he wants to dig a hole and hide in it for the rest of his life. He's a stammering mess and he definitely is trying his best to make conversation, but don't expect him to be particularly seductive or anything. There's nothing seductive about a gangly, awkward man trying to ask someone how their day is.]
B
[The dancing and learning and respecting boundaries with relationships is a little less awkward. Newt isn't the best dancer, but he isn't the worst. Just maybe above average and he only knew how to waltz. It was the only dancing that was really taught, since waltzing was just something you should be able to do for whatever work ball one might find themselves at. The Ministry of Magic had enough of those that it seemed enough reason to be able to do it.
Yet, he was standing off to the side and against the wall. The man seemed content where he was as he watched countless people practice dancing, but not joining himself.]
V. Excursion
[While Newt was used to city life, it wasn't really something he was completely comfortable with. He had spent so long traveling, that being out in the wild was much more of his element than being behind city walls. He often left the city walls and any quests that took him away from the bustle of civilization was accepted excitedly.]
A
[While Newt could get on by himself, he has been a bit more willing to agree to having company. Currently, following the niffler while riding on the back of Greg together.] Based on the description, we'll want to find a small body of water where there is sufficient light. Luckily for us, nifflers are very handy with finding shiny things, so we'll let Harry do his work. [The niffler was currently scurrying through the foliage. Goblins had used nifflers to look for treasure and that was basically how they were employing the small platypus-like creature at the moment.]
B
[If one didn't join Newt, but happened to be on the same quest. The man can be found near a lake shore with his companions. The niffler is digging its little paws through a pile of the glittering sand happily while the zouwu was laying down and soaking in the sun lazily. Newt had pulled his boots off and rolled his pant legs and sleeves up. He was standing in the water, but only up to his ankles. The man was currently holding up a vile of the sand up into the light curiously and shaking it a bit.]
VI. Barracks
[The magizoologist was a familiar face at the barracks. For whatever reason, the man had been cleaning the space up. The place was dusty from lack of use and needed a good washing. He could be found either sweeping or scrubbing the floors or cleaning the window panes or sitting in the courtyard for a short break.
It seems like he intends to make use of the space somehow with the way he tapped his chin thoughtfully and looked at the space with furrowed brows.]
VII. Wildcard
[If none of these work, feel free to PM me or message me via plurk

It's the first time that their shifts have overlapped, and Pierce can't help but laugh when he comes in and finds Newt there on the floor, surrounded by panthercats.] Poor Mr. Scamander, [he says solemnly, placing a hand against his own chest.] Found dead in a pile of fuzzy, purrin' beasts. They always said black cats were bad luck, and now he went and proved it.
[Pierce has ditched his overcoat in the break room and rolled up his sleeves, but there's an odder addition to his wardrobe. Even indoors like this, he's wearing a pair of round sunglasses that are so dark it's hard to see his eyes behind them.]
I'm really upset. How dare you be cute Pierce. HDU.
[Newt doesn't think he'll be able to get up a bit. Not when one of the pantherhounds move to settle on his stomach.] This is better than the nundu though. Nancy, my nundu, fell asleep on me and there's nothing you can really do when a few hundred pounds of deadweight decides that it fancies a nap and takes you along for it.
I don't know if I can get up though... [He doesn't have the heart to move them when they all seem to be so comfortable. Help.]

Cloud
A symbiotic relationship though? He can accept that.
And when presented a situation that he most certainly can't say no to, but require a bond; well, he's not about to lose the chance just because he's a smidge uncomfortable.
Newt is familiar with Cloud and the other seemed rather interested, so it's a mutual agreement. He's heard enough from Nessie that their bond was volatile. Unsafe. So he imagines they won't keep the bond. Not because either were uncomfortable with each other, but that it was probably safer for them to.
The plan was simple. Leave to find a good place to stake out as sundown. It gave them some natural daylight to get situated and set up, so they weren't struggling to do so when it was dark. It also minimized startling any of the night critters if they were set up before sundown.
Newt comes well prepared for their little stake out. Water. Some food. Writing utensils and paper (he went ahead and got himself a new journal to avoid mixing it up with his current one). Other things that they may need.
They settle down and wait for the evening to hit and for time to pass as the stars show themselves in the nightsky.] I deduce since we're only taking note of wildlife at the edge of the forest, that we wont' be seeing anything too fantastical. Perhaps we'll see a few larger creatures, but I'm going to guess we'll mostly see more scavenger type animals.
no subject
This situation is a win-win for him in this case. Newt seemed like a good person, so this was even better. Cloud doesn't think he could Bond with a stranger unless he has to, even temporary.
While Newt has his own supplies, the blond has some as well. His sword for one. Just in case something decides to attack. And his own snacks. Because he could have quite an appetite. He's chewing on an apple chip as Newt talks.]
Scavengers? [Still getting used to the animals in this world compared to his own.]

Entrapta
She was odd to him. The way she dressed and everything was incredibly foreign to him. Newt was wholly unfamiliar with technology as a whole. The extent of what he used was more household like a stove or oven and he didn't use washing machines or dryer because that was what magic was for. Even then, wizards could be old fashioned and there weren't household appliances out in the wilderness.
He most certainly didn't understand some of the things she said to him at times, but he finds that this is more common than not anyways. It doesn't really bother him.
Newt had done this some nights before with Cloud, but he wasn't at all opposed to going again with someone else. What they might witness would be different because it's silly to expect the same things to happen every night in the exact pattern. That, and Entrapta just seemed very gunho to go.
The two are settled down for the night. The night isn't so dead quiet as people expect. The rustle of foliage as creatures wandered through the fauna and flora. Small noises from animals of all kinds. It wasn't noisy, but it wasn't silent either. It was comfortable.]
I can't say most will find this particularly entertaining. A lot of it is waiting. [Newt was no stranger to it though. He has done well enough stake outs to research beasts of all kinds to know what to expect.] I had done this before with someone else. It was pretty average of what you expect.
no subject
[ She is kind of bouncing her knee, though? But she doesn't seem insincere; she's smiling, and she has her own notebook out, ready and keen. ]
I haven't done much of this kind of research before... Dryl is a little low on wildlife. It sounded like it's, ah, sort of your whole thing, though...?

Keith
He had decided to reside at the barracks, but he had certain ideas what he wanted to do. The space also meant that Greg didn't have to feel cooped up and they weren't far from the wall and a way out of the city. It was ideal for a man who wasn't quite a city man, but also was accustomed to it to some extent.
It meant that he at least got to understand the city life and people's day in and day out. It was fascinating. He also familiarized himself with what was common to find in the city and what was more common out in the Wilde. Flora and fauna for instance. Newt wasn't only interested in beasts, but all sorts of life. He had a little garden of some kind in the shack that was in his briefcase. Herbs of different kinds and things that could be used in a poultice or for remedies.
He hoped to rebuild that, but it meant familiarizing himself with what was here. Also, plants do much to giving a place life and he won't lie that Keith's...abode could do with some of that. He did also recommend the other to growing some plants or vegetables or something. It would probably save him having to return to the city as often if he didn't want to make the trip (short or not) and certain plants helped a lot if one was familiar with making remedies and such with more natural materials]
Keith? [Newt is a good neighbor (they're not actually neighbors) and doesn't mind going out to visit Hiccup and Keith out at their, er, home. He dismounts Greg who decides to scamper off to wander about. Greg won't venture off too far and always seems to come back to Newt. He doesn't worry for him. Newt is carrying his briefcase and also has a bag slung over his shoulder.
The other had mentioned not being incredibly knowledgeable about the fauna.
It's not like there's a whole lot of it in the desert when you're shacking it up with your crazy conspiracy board.Okay, look. Newt might be here to help out a bit with the shack, but also he brought things like seeds and vegetables. Like the sweet old granny with the garden and they have too much produce or something. Or maybe he just went grocery shopping for them. Who knows.] You are home, right? [You know who doesn't use that watch or whatever it is much? Newt. He is unholy awful with it.]
no subject
Did they say living beyond the city walls was safe? No, not really, but danger had never stopped Keith from doing something that he had set his mind to, and it certainly wouldn't stop him now either. They forced their weakest beyond the walls after all. The sick and the poor into the slums beyond the city, left to their own devices- to become infected or starve. The more Keith looked, the more he found things that he just couldn't agree with.
So outside the city just made sense.
Of course, it was a lot of work trying to put together a quarter collapsed shack in the woods (only one wall had been falling off of it, okay!!) and Keith was lucky and grateful that Hiccup had not only offered his help but taken him up on sharing the space. They were safer that way too, and better able to protect their friends, Kosmo and Toothless.
Keith was working inside when Newt and Greg arrived, positioned at the back of the shack where the two men had only just recently finished repairing the folded out wall. They'd had to all but replace it, the former wood planking rotted, and whatever passed for something akin to drywall in this place all but crumpled cardboard-like mess. It was thankfully cleaned up now, repaired and replaced with something sturdier- Keith was just working on putting some finishing touches on the new window, trying to fit the glass in properly and swearing beneath his breath as he tried to fix it into place.
Distracted by the other's call of his name, Keith's arms straining against the weight of the glass his head turned, looking towards the wide-open front door (honestly he didn't really need to shut or lock it out in the middle of nowhere like they were) before sighing, and shifting to pull the glass out, to set it back down on the floor. He'd measured it so many times, why all of a sudden did it not want to fit?!
A problem for the planer for later, he supposed. For now he wiped the sweat from his brow and turned to head for the front door, waving to where he could see the other standing beyond it. ]
Yeah, I'm home. Hiccup and Toothless are out hunting I think- or fishing. [ Or Hiccup was at the library; Keith wasn't really sure. All he knew was that they'd agreed to take a break on building that day- and hah, look how good Keith was doing at that. ] What brings you all the way out here? [ Keith asked, smiling crookedly as Kosmo yawned from his place on the floor, before getting up onto his paws and waltzing out into the grass to greet Greg, tail wagging. ]

VI. Barracks
Unfortunately, the efforts of others, however noble or helpful, have a tendency to encroach on his own slovenly chosen solitude. In his cleaning, Newt has stumbled upon the room that L has been inhabiting; overdue library books are stacked high in the dusty room that no cleaning efforts have yet disturbed, and the dark-robed, scrawny figure of a man is crouched on the floor with one of them and a cup of coffee he's been using magic to rewarm and refill when needed. Otherwise, the place is painfully stark, with no furnishings or signs that someone who cares about comfort has been living there.
He startles, some of his coffee splashing onto the library book's page. He's able to clean it up fairly easily with magic, but the base of his thumb, red from the scorching splash of liquid, goes notably unattended.]
Do you need something?
[As though Newt is the audacious one, for coming into this area that looked completely unoccupied from the outside.]
no subject
It's definitely a little jarring though.]
Oh, sorry. I didn't realize anyone was here. I've just been cleaning up the barracks. [He's got a pail filled with old rags and clothes and a brook and mop. He definitely looks like he's doing just that.] I, er, my apologies. I can take my leave now.
[Even if he's a bit concerned about someone living in such a shoddy environment; it's also not his business either.]

Hello, I'm Symon. [He introduces himself.] I live here too, with Lyr Tuttle. Do you need help cleaning? [His voice is low and rich, quietly polite. The spare afternoon light catches the glitter of the scales scattered across his hands and forearm, the glint of his gold-lacquered claws.]
no subject
Only if you have the time yourself. I can get by well enough otherwise. [He wasn't going to say no, but he wasn't going to make someone feel obligated to assist either.] Sorry, I'm not quite familiar with who's decided to stay here, actually. One-legged, he hops his way over when he spots Newt, like he's used to this, carrying a couple of books of his own from the library, and a leather-bound journal and charcoals. He flops into the grass easily, stretching his legs out.] I think I'm getting the hang of this levitation thing. Can't say the same for much else. Are you studying?

It's coming in handy to entertain Toothless there. [He watches Toothless follows after the object of his current attention.] You don't worry that his teeth might damage it? [He doesn't think the dragon would purposely damage it, but playing can get rough sometimes.]
Oh, yes! I'm hoping to make a decent headway with more household spells. Offensive spells too, of course, but things to get through my day to day would be more beneficial. I'm not one to to really try and get into a fight, so I want to concentrate on things that I was more used to performing.
I rather miss being able to easily repair things with a twirl of my wand. [Because...things breaking was really common in his life...]

She hasn't worked with Newt on slow enough days to have spoken with him much, but Lex has been able to appreciate his passion for the animals. That's why when, as the day winds down and he starts to sketch in his notebook, Lex approaches. She comes from behind, stepping carefully to make enough noise so as not to startle any of them- and crouches next to him, Dogmeat at her side. ]

The magizoologist doesn't look up; eyes carefully trained on the mantibles.] Oh, they're quite darling. They're nothing like bowtruckles, but they're charming in their own way. I was hoping Pickett would perhaps try and interact with them, but he's being awfully shy.
