[ 1. Meteor Shower ]
[ Few things could awe Berserker. Even the meteors streaking through the sky can't manage it. Frustration, resentment, and even a tinge of sorrow burn in him as brightly as those many lights. Alone on hill just outside the city, the dragon seethes.
Or he thinks he's alone, anyway. Anyone else on that comes to the hill after the feeling hits him is completely ignored for the moment.
Berserker lowers his head, his fists clenched tightly. ]
That should have been me...
[ To be like that star: burning brightly for just a little bit before fading away. ]
[ 2a. Full Moon - Potential NSFW option ]
[ There is a blissful reprieve from the rain as the moons come into full view. Not so blissful are the effects the moons have on his mind. More on edge than usual, Berserker takes to the skies in an attempt to soothe his frayed nerves.
It doesn't work. His wings are fully healed now and allow him to fly, but now everyone he sees seems to be more like prey or something to be sized up. Still in his human form, he lands on a rooftop above a mostly empty street. The first poor soul he sees is now his target. ]
Run...Otherwise I can't guarantee your safety.
[ 3. Wildcard ]

Flat Escardos. Do you ever think about anything you say before it falls out of your mouth?
[ The answer is no. He knows that. ]

[ flat doesn’t mind it in the least, as his smile shows. perhaps he was just teasing the dragon, or maybe he truly meant his question—the answer to that is yes to both.
but he sits next to the dragon, leaning against him like an attention-starved cat. even though it has been weeks since his death and the bond is mostly repaired, there are still times when he needs to have that affection. ]
Didn’t answer my question though. Or are you going to say it’s stupid and ignore me?

I was supposed to be like a shooting star...Burning brilliantly for an instant before fading away.
[ A legendary life was rarely long. A proper warrior shouldn't live long; they should aspire to fight valiantly and die young. To some, it's tragic. To the true Cú Chulainn, that was exactly the life he wanted. To the alter sitting next to Flat, it's the life that was denied him. ]
...If that's the question you wanted answered.

[ an interesting way to see things. strange, even. he leans into the hug, eyes staring up at the meteor shower. it’s beautiful, but the idea of being like one is... ]
That sounds lonely. Aren’t people supposed to want to have longer lives? [ perhaps it’s a celt thing, he thinks. ] But if you think about it, human lifespans in general probably look like shooting stars to others. Eighty years isn’t long at all in the eyes of the vast universe. Even modern human civilization is like a blink of an eye in comparison to the Sun or the Earth or even the bigger stars in the universe. Ehh, where was I going with this...?
[ cheerful nihilism seems to be his go-to tonight. ]
Ah, right! The point is that you did burn quickly—you just need to change your perspective. Hmm, not brightly though, but that’s alright. If you ask me, I think black holes are cooler.

I never really existed, so I never lived at all. I have the memories of who I should have been and the memories of the alternative life I led. I'm nothing more than an impossibility. [ These facts are said calmly with no emotion behind them. It's simply how it is. ] I didn't burn at all.
[ Berserker keeps his eyes on the meteor shower above them. Though he seems calm outwardly, resentment and bitterness still burn in his chest. ]
no subject
[ the resentment coming from cu doesn’t appear to affect flat in the least, who pushes his own opinions with his own brand of stubbornness. ]
Whether it’s honorable or heroic or absolutely ordinary, each human life weighs more than the Earth itself. And before you say something about not being human, those horns and wings don’t make you less human.
no subject
It doesn't make him feel any better as he thinks about it, though. Trauma from his captivity lingers still; any worth or confidence he'd built had been broken down. ]
Human or not, my life is worth nothing. [ Again, he's calm, resigned, even. ] That's all.
[ He'd been shown how little his life mattered and it stuck with him like a knife buried deep in his back. ]
no subject
[ flat says it with conviction, but with eyes that are, instead of being fixed on cu, it’s more like he’s seeing through him. although... perhaps the purpose that they both see are different to the one that cu yearns to have.
aah, well. it’s not like this place is good for accomplishing that either. cu’s version is more likely, actually. flat closes his eyes, breathing out a sigh. ]
But if you think that your life is meaningless, then what about the others? Do they hold any importance to you? Do they weigh anything?
no subject
[ It's a cold, emotionless appraisal. His bonded are everything to him, especially Diarmuid, but ultimately, their lives have as little meaning as his own. He gives them more value than his own, naturally; value is different than meaning. ]
no subject
[ there’s an emptiness in his words. not because he’s insulted by the idea of being considered “meaningless”, though it does sting somewhat, but because...that’s it. it’s wasteful. ]
Although Aefenglom is a different reality, I guess. What humanity’s purpose is in one reality won’t be the same in the other. If anyone’s existence is a waste here, then I guess it’s mine. And in my reality, I’ve already fulfilled it. Like the meteors, I’ve burned up and died in the blink of an eye, but accomplished what needed to be done.
no subject
...I never asked for this existence and neither did you. Your life has more value than mine does, because of what you are. [ He recognizes the other existence inside of Flat is necessary, even if he doesn't like it. ] If you think it's a waste, so be it.
no subject
Just because it’s a waste doesn’t mean that it’s not worth living. Or maybe...because our lives are meaningless it means that it’s like being given a blank slate? Either way, it’s not a bad thing.
no subject
A chance to start over...That's something else I didn't deserve.
[ But he was given it, nonetheless. ]
I haven't given up, so don't think that. Meaningless as our lives are, I still value what we have. Even if my chance at a legendary life was taken from em...
no subject
[ he nuzzles cu, before looking up at him with a curious look. ]
No one really deserves anything. You get what you’re given and you make the best with what you got! Everything’s unpredictable, but I think that makes things more exciting. You can basically do anything!
no subject
...At least I've found something worth protecting because I want to. [ Berserker tugs Flat a little bit closer. ] Whatever I've been denied doesn't matter in the face of that.
