[Well, that sure made things more dire, and a situation he more badly wants to fix now. Even more lives could be ruined by this if it's not gotten completely in check.]
Don't worry, I think I'm covered there. Or at least, my hands are!
[Get it, because he's wearing gloves? Was it an attempt at a joke, or was he being serious there? It's hard to tell with him.]

[Because as they get closer to the boundaries of the outer city, a couple of eyes start shining in the darkening forest.]
We're going to have to fight.

So they're bringing the fight to us?
[Well, that suits him just fine. He extracts the empty sword handle from his Soma and holds it out in front of him. A blade of magic extends from it, cracking with energy.]
I'm ready to go!

[Edelgard sets her axe, the bone weapon chittering as she draws it. The eye at the center of the crosspiece twists to look forward, at the monsters, sensing a conflict.]
Let's go.
[With a heavy step and a flash of movement, Edelgard rushes forward, mouth open to bare her fangs. Out of the forest bound three creatures...cat-like beasts. Probably what were once lynxes or bobcats. And they make right for the big, red target.]
no subject
...Well, he couldn't really think about that right now. Edelgard still didn't seem like a bad person, so he just had to work around this!]
Right!
[Once Edelgard engages the beasts, Kor dashes in. He didn't really have any of his fancy artes available to him yet; At the moment, he could do little more than swing his sword. But when that sword was made of pure, condensed magic, well... That's all you needed sometimes. He swings the blade at one of the creatures. Even if he doesn't take it over in one shot, if he lands a blow with that weapon it'll be feeling a wound it won't soon forget.]

Edelgard steps into combat against the cat-creatures quite readily, confident in her armor's ability to ward off their claws and fangs. Swinging her axe at the one he's wounded, working in tandem, she hits it hard enough to send it sprawling. It wobbles unsteadily on two legs, the force of their combined blows enough to stun it for the moment.
The other two come right for her, gnashing teeth snapping at her armored legs, earning one a kick that has it rearing up on both legs. An easy mark for him, probably.

Following up on Edelgard's attack on the one she'd kicked, Kor takes a wide swing with his sword, cleanly cutting through the monster's midsection. The two halves fall to the ground, their severed ends tingling with electricity for a moment before it dissipates.
He felt a little bad, knowing the truth behind these things. They weren't like monsters from his world, who were born feral and dangerous. Before infection, these things could have been mild-mannered animals, maybe even someone's pet... It was a little tragic, really.
...But only a little. Tragedy or no, these things were still dangerous, and that was reason enough to put them out of their misery. He wasn't about to advocate for their rights here.]
One down, two to go!
[And at that moment, the blade vanishes from his hand, leaving an empty hilt. Crap, a bad time for his magic to short out on him...]

[Edelgard moves again, this time interposing her armored frame between Kor and the monstrous cats. Her armor will do well to stop them, but she can see that his spell has given out. Without hesitation, she draws the silver saber she wears at her waist and flicks it point down into the ground at his feet.]
Use this. It's a good blade.
[Just in time, too, because one of the cats comes crashing into her back, making her stagger, stumbling forward and almost losing her balance. Almost. The second, now recovered, rushes around her, trying to get around to snap at Kor.]
whoops i lost track of this tag
His eyes go wide when Edelgard tosses him her silver saber. Reacting quickly, he runs forward to scoop it up off the ground.]
Thanks!
[He poured too much of his currently limited magic reserves into that last strike, so he was going to have to make due with normal strikes until he managed to recharge a little. He didn't have the advantage of powering up his attacks with his magic for the moment, so he was going to have to make due with a more familiar method for him.
With speed.]
Incoming!
[Hopefully, Kor's callout to Edelgard was enough to notify her of his intentions. Taking advantage of the momentum he created, he rushes straight towards the second beast, and slices through its jugular with the saber. Even if the strike didn't fell the beast, it wasn't likely to be standing much longer.]

Rocking forward, she kicks out with an armored boot again, striking the last cat-creature and stunning it. And then she brings her axe down hard, cleaving it neatly in half before spinning to check on Kor.]
Good move! Get back and let it bleed out on it's own. Safer that way!
no subject
[He could see these things were as good as done. There wasn't any need to drag out the fight any longer. Kor spins around on his heel and makes a hasty retreat away.]
You really know how to handle yourself out there, Edelgard.
no subject
Swift mercy is the best I can grant. I am sorry.
[A mumbled not-quite prayer to the dagger she's drawn, and then she flings it into the dying animal's throat to finish it off more quickly. It dies with a gurgle, and she finally turns back to Kor.]
...I was trained as a soldier in the finest academy in my world. I...suppose it's to be expected.
You did well yourself, Kor. Thank you for your help.
no subject
He was impressed.]
Thanks. You too.
[He holds the saber she'd lent him out to her.]
no subject
Shall we return? I believe your shift was ending.

[Kor can't have someone thinking he went AWOL all of a sudden. He wants to get paid here, dammit!]
