Edelgard keeps up, staying close, within arm's reach of Bernadetta so that if something does come at them, she can pull the archer behind her armored body.]
Have you had any luck finding books on local plants? I know you like that sort of thing.
[It's an attempt at small talk at least.]

[She's actually been so focused she almost didn't hear the question. There's some blinking as the question catches up with her. Then suddenly she's fishing through her mind because the reason she's had such an easy time finding local books on the subject is because of Sylvain.
But there's strife involving Sylvain.
Um.
Think!
Just leave his name out of it! Yeah! That's the idea!]
Mm. Yes. They've been really interesting too. I've been able to read a few of them already.

Are they like the ones at home? Or...are they radically different? I've found a few common herbs I know about in the marketplaces, but I confess you've studied them a great deal more than I.
[Just...passing into the trees now, out into the wild.]

[How to make Bernie forget about her anxieties. Put her in her comfort zone. Where she's the one who has all the power and knowledge.]
I wouldn't really say I've studied them but I have wanted to get to know them so that way I could grow some by my bed.
no subject
[And, realistically, Edelgard can't exactly tend to the plants herself during the day.]
no subject
[She'll have to do more research to find out the needs of the plants here as she suddenly changes directions. Mostly because she's instinctively caught sight of something that should take them where they should go rather than really paying attention.]
no subject
[She notices Bernadetta's change of pace and follows, shutting up to track where they're going.
It seems she has good instincts, as the tree they're looking for seems to appear up ahead.]
Oh! How fortunate. Excellent work, Bernadetta.
no subject
[She pauses because she takes another look at the trees. Curious, she lets her words trail off as she goes to take a closer look. They almost look like...people? Maybe? Maybe her eyes are just playing tricks on her. But they're definitely beautiful.]
no subject
[They do seem to be actually crying. That's...a very literal spin on weeping willows.]
I've never seen anything like this before...but...business. We need to gather a plant growing at it's base. And I'm sure Hubert will want a sample of the liquid. I'll gather some of that if you can check for the plant?
no subject
Is it okay if we take the plant at your roots? Someone needs it. I hope you won't mind...
[Yes. She is getting the permission of the trees. They're crying, you know.]
no subject
It is crying, though, and maybe that means it's sentient? Either way, it can't hurt.]
...I appreciate your help. I'm hoping that perhaps we can help people with a bit of your sap.
[And gently, she collects a little bit of the tears, and pats the tree down a bit with a handkerchief, as if drying it's eyes.]
no subject
[She steps over.]
I know you want the samples but...don't dry the tears. They might be for the plants.
no subject
[That's smart and she hadn't thought of it. So, she pulls back quickly, patting the trunk.]
...Sorry about that.
[Said to the tree, more than Bernadetta.]
