[Open] Catch all!

Who: Bernadetta and YOU
When: First couple of weeks in the month
Where: Various locations
What: Bernadetta is having to adjust to some new changes. It's a lot to take in! For someone who is getting smaller every day...
Warnings: Hopefully just her usual anxieties. But I'll throw up a warning for potential mentions of child abuse (she had a rough childhood) just in case. Other than that it's just body transformation things!

A. Home is where the heart is (Closed to the people she lives with at the Lions or Eagles houses)

[Those who live with Bernie may not see her that often. Which, honestly, is pretty normal! She loves to spend time in her room and keep to herself. With that said there's always food for either household and she makes sure it's well suited to individual needs. Of course she makes sure that she doesn't make a mess either. After all she doesn't want to be a rude housemate!

With that said, her housemates might notice something rather...odd. Or maybe even a few things.

For one, she's definitely been getting smaller. She'd started out at around 5'5" but now those around might notice that she's got to have shrunk...several inches. Why, she's shorter than Edelgard now!

But there's more than that. Thin, almost hairlike things are starting to stick up from her hair. She's a little self conscious about how weird they might look so she's been dodging people. That and the fact that the window in the back of her clothes is definitely showing off very noticeable nubs that indicate her incoming wings. And are her ears...pointier?

Well she can't dodge people forever. Eventually one of them will find her! Especially if she thinks she's alone and has a space to do some sewing or reading in another part of the house.]

B. Sometimes she has to get outside

[It's rare for her to go outside right now with her odd looking changes but she knows she can't hide forever. Besides, she really wants to do some painting or sewing outside! Which means that she tries to find a private but pretty location to do just that. It helps that there's a lot of gardening things going on right now which happens to be one of her favorite things in the universe.

A nice vase of flowers arranged on the ground before her as she hums to herself while she either paints it or embroiders the design of it onto fabric. She seems lost in her own little world so she's not likely to notice she has company right away.

Don't let that stop you though. She might be jumpy but friendship is good for her!]

[And his expression still doesn't really change from... mild confusion. No anger or upset, here.]

But that's... flattering? Why would I be mad you wanted to draw me?

Because...

[Face on fire, she finally shows him the picture. It's honestly very good! Her recreation of him shirtless and sweating. A pretty smile is on his face as he pushes fingers through his hair.

It's just a sketch but it's clear she put effort into it.]

Woah--! It looks so good...

[He's surprised! He knew she was good, but not to what extent - mostly because she tended to run away with her sketches. And instead of being upset about the subject matter, he just... grins down at her, pushes his hair back like he is in the sketch.]

You know I'd hold still for you if you wanted, right?

[She's about to lose a friend. He's going to hate her for being inappropriate. It's not that she's trying to be! But she needed a reference for her story and if she wants it to be him then...well...

Wait.

Slowly, Bernie looks up at him. He's doing the thing with his hair like in her picture. She can feel he's not mad and likes the picture but...]

You're...not mad?

Of course not!

[He can absolutely feel her worry, so he does his level best to... well, ignore it. Act like everything is fine, and normal. Because... well, it is.

No losing a friend over a drawing. He doesn't even think it was all that inappropriate... though his metric for that is, admittedly, somewhat skewed.]

[Her face is still red but the relief she feels is instantaneous. Letting out a breath, Bernie relaxes. Turning her picture back to her, she looks at it again before looking back up at him.]

I know I should have asked if it was okay first. I'm sorry. I just... I needed a reference.

Hm? I don't mind. You didn't need to ask if it was okay, Bernadetta.

[It's the 'worrying he'd hate her for it' that's the problem, not the drawing itself...]

If you need a reference from now on, just let me know, though, alright? No sense in trying to draw me from memory when I'm right here, unless you really want to.

I couldn't! It's bad enough I drew you like this. Asking you to model for me...

[Bernie's face somehow ends up redder.]

It... It would be inappropriate!

[...no wonder she unmarriageable.]

Bad enough...? It's not bad at all, though.

[But if she's uncomfortable with the idea, then, well... she's uncomfortable with the idea, and he's not going to press the issue. It's still left open, though.]

And I don't think it's inappropriate.

[Don't mind him reaching up to ruffle her hair, too... but wait, something feels odd, there.

...Probably nothing, right? Something weird getting in her hair she hasn't washed out yet, or the like.]

It is! Because I'm not supposed to be looking right at real men without clothes unless it's like training! Or eat! Or...

[But then he's rubbing her head. And the hyper sensitive new antennae get rubbed too. It's like a jolt goes through her and all her senses get jumbled.

Bernie sways and grabs his hand to still it on her head. Making the motion stop helps.

Give her a second. She's regaining her senses.]

[He could argue all that, but... well, it is a little inappropriate, just not as much as she thought it was, and besides - there are bigger issues at the moment, anyway, as soon as he ruffles her hair.

Because even he feels a little dizzy through the Bond.

So as soon as she stops his hand, and as soon as he starts feeling slightly less dizzy, he removes it.]

...What was that?

[More thinking out loud than asking her outright, but... well, if she has an answer, all the better.]

[Pulling her hair to the side to that it falls away from one of the antennae, she blinks up at him.]

I think they're really, really sensitive. Everything went all weird when they were moved a lot.

Yeah, that... sounds right? Sorry about that...

[He didn't even realize she had them... but speaking of changes, since they'd gotten distracted with the sketchbook fiasco-]

So if you have antenna... those bumps on your back are probably the start of wings, right?

Maybe? I know they're really weird to look at.

[It's why she's been hiding. So people don't have to see how weird they look. She doesn't want to make people uncomfortable.]

Mm... they're less weird now that I think we've figured out what they are.

[Because, honestly? They were concerning, but if they're just her body changing to accommodate incoming wings? They make sense. Still are a little weird, but... less so.]

I don't know what monster is buggy though.

[Maybe she could see if there's a book that says. Because antennae are bug things right? At least she thinks so?]

...Fae, probably.

[With all the studying he's been doing, he has come across some basic monster information... and it seems to fit, somewhat. At least it's the first one that comes to mind.]

Want to look through the library and see if there's anything about Fae in there?

Yes!

[Oh. That was maybe too enthusiastic. She tempers herself.]

Yes please. I want to see what we should know.

[No such thing as too enthusiastic when it comes to figuring out what she's got to... "look forward" to.]

Not sure if there are any books on Fae in the library, but I know there was one with the basics on a bunch of monsters. That should help a bit, at least!

[So he'll turn to head back to the library, expecting that she'll come along! Honestly, he hasn't sorted through everything that's there, yet, but there's definitely something...

...And a few tawdry romance novels featuring Fae, if she's interested in those, too.]

[Immediately she's following after him. Because she's so eager to learn more about this. And honestly thrilled that he's ready to help her along the way.]

Fae are buggy?

[She's not really run into any fully Fae yet so she has nothing to compare to for what she might have to look forward to. It's not like some of the others here where they have such obvious changes.]

[Of course he's ready to help! Might as well put all that studying to productive use, and all that, and it's not like he's only reading about his magic, when there are clearly just as important things in relation to his Bonds.]

As far as I understand it, yeah. But not spiders. Those are Arachne.

Insects then?

[What kind of insect is she? She hopes it's not too weird. This is already bad enough that she has bumps on her back to make room for the fact that she'll have wings on her back!]

Yeah, seems like it.

[This whole situation is pretty damn weird already, so he's sure that whatever insect she ends up being - if she is indeed a Fae and not something more out there like a Chimera - won't be the weirdest.]

You like bugs, though, right? So it shouldn't be that bad.

Bugs were something that would spend time with me. They were nice when I wasn't allowed to have friends growing up.

[Maybe they were her first friends? Probably not. Because bugs don't really feel strongly about people. Not that she blames them honestly. It's fine. They're just doing their buggy things! Living their buggy lives!]

Ah... yeah. I get it.

[Well, as much as he can get it, anyway. He was never isolated like that for any length of time where the bugs would be accustomed to his presence.]

Well, hopefully your little bug friends will be proud of whatever you become.
