Who: Bernadetta and YOU
When: First couple of weeks in the month
Where: Various locations
What: Bernadetta is having to adjust to some new changes. It's a lot to take in! For someone who is getting smaller every day...
Warnings: Hopefully just her usual anxieties. But I'll throw up a warning for potential mentions of child abuse (she had a rough childhood) just in case. Other than that it's just body transformation things!

A. Home is where the heart is (Closed to the people she lives with at the Lions or Eagles houses)

[Those who live with Bernie may not see her that often. Which, honestly, is pretty normal! She loves to spend time in her room and keep to herself. With that said there's always food for either household and she makes sure it's well suited to individual needs. Of course she makes sure that she doesn't make a mess either. After all she doesn't want to be a rude housemate!

With that said, her housemates might notice something rather...odd. Or maybe even a few things.

For one, she's definitely been getting smaller. She'd started out at around 5'5" but now those around might notice that she's got to have shrunk...several inches. Why, she's shorter than Edelgard now!

But there's more than that. Thin, almost hairlike things are starting to stick up from her hair. She's a little self conscious about how weird they might look so she's been dodging people. That and the fact that the window in the back of her clothes is definitely showing off very noticeable nubs that indicate her incoming wings. And are her ears...pointier?

Well she can't dodge people forever. Eventually one of them will find her! Especially if she thinks she's alone and has a space to do some sewing or reading in another part of the house.]

B. Sometimes she has to get outside

[It's rare for her to go outside right now with her odd looking changes but she knows she can't hide forever. Besides, she really wants to do some painting or sewing outside! Which means that she tries to find a private but pretty location to do just that. It helps that there's a lot of gardening things going on right now which happens to be one of her favorite things in the universe.

A nice vase of flowers arranged on the ground before her as she hums to herself while she either paints it or embroiders the design of it onto fabric. She seems lost in her own little world so she's not likely to notice she has company right away.

Don't let that stop you though. She might be jumpy but friendship is good for her!]

[ eren is covered head to talon, especially hands, in colors, carrying some paint barrels over his shoulders (one on each) and sashes of fresh plants ready to planted. he doesn't need to spot her to know where she is— eren smells her first, of course, already an aroma proven difficult to ignore (he forces himself to ignore mikasa's, he can indulge in the others—) and makes his way over to her potted crafts to say hello. ]

Might be easier to paint with the plants outside of it.

[ from the looks of it, she put the plants in the vase first, and then started to paint. what if she needed to lift it, turn it upside down? ]

[Bernie starts at the sound of his voice. Spinning around, she stares wide eyed at him. It's the lizard man who was sniffing her. Why is he back to look over her again?]

They're... They're supposed to be in the vase.

[That's what she's painting after all.]

[ it’s good to know he’s being referred to as lizard man when he introduced himself, bernie 😭 so cruel . . . ]

While you’re painting it?

[His confusion is in turn confusing her. Because she hadn't realized this was hard to understand?]

[Why wouldn't they be???]

[ well—! as per routine, he should probably crouch down further to keep from accidentally looming. again. did she get even smaller or did he get taller? putting his things down beside him— uh, he definitely wasn’t an artist, but. ]

You’re going to hurt your back to keep bending to it. [ there is a concerned bone in his body, yes. kneeling beside her, he’ll gesture, hands out. ] Try it. I can hold the flowers for you.

[Oh. He comes closer to her level. She watches him remember to not loom over her and finds herself actually smiling a little. It's so nice to have someone work to make her feel more comfortable.]

My back?

[She looks to where she's put the flowers in the vase before looking to him.]

You don't have to. Wouldn't that be troublesome for you?

[usurpers]

[ — y’all fae need to stop doing that thing where dragon him can’t take this doki bs he just can’t. something rumbles in his throat, somewhere deep, but eren coughs inwardly to make it just a fleeting tickle. yes, of course. that’s what it was. he shrugs. ]

Troublesome would be leaving you that way.

[ with back cramps and a crappy painted vase. he smiles himself, small and brief. ]

[She blushes at that. The words are so nice and thoughtful. Bernadetta's truly touched.]

Thank you. If you'd like to then yes please. That would be really nice.

[And maybe... Maybe she could be able to add him to her painting too.]

[ HELLO??? how is bernadetta blushing even legal? he'll hold these plants with his LIFE. bur as delicate as can be. ]

You been painting for long?

No. Not long.

[She readjusts to make it easier for her to see him holding the flowers. Only to realize that maybe he doesn't mean today.]

You mean in general? Um...I started a little bit when I was little girl. But I like it more now. The world is really pretty. Even if I'm scared of a lot of it because it's something I'm not used to.

[usurpers]

[ bernie if you're painting him you're going to get arrested for all these felonies one after another! he is, at least, a very good listener! doesn't move an inch beyond the tongue (the tongue can't stop), and slow, slow leaning that could be interpreted as interest. listen more. ]

I've heard that before. [ or something similar. oh, mikasa. he has to try and diverge his thoughts again before they go somewhere sad. ] You didn't go out much?

[ it's not said incrediously— eren was possibly one of the first people to understand being sheltered, and he hated it. even when the world was as nasty as muck. there were beautiful things worth fighting for. ]

No. I prefer to stay in my room. Where it's quiet and safe and everything is familiar.

[She sighs as she traces the lines of him into the picture, paying close attention to his size in comparison to the flowers.]

I am trying to get out sometimes though.

[ something he would’ve condemned if he were a handful of years younger. staying cooped up waiting to die like poultry. eren just knows now: there’s a lot more to it than the cut-dry black and white of things. even now, he was still to the point with his choices (or he does something or he doesn’t, no in between) but reasoning has broadened its horizon line.

there were reasons people were this way, and valid ones. ]

It’s a step up. [ some people need time, and have the gift of it. ] You’d miss out on a lot of you didn’t.

I guess that just never bothered me before.

[Not until she really had friends. Now she wants to be out in the world so she can see them. So she won't miss out on seeing them.]

But like right now. I'm doing my best to find things to do outside! It's why I decided to paint flowers.

You’re not late yet.

[ he only won’t say never because sometimes it is too late for some things. that’s only his circumstance, and he knows there are plenty more that better fit bernie’s bill. he’s even— quietly smiling to himself as he watches her diligent paint strokes. ]

You look like you’re enjoying yourself.

I'm not?

[She looks up at him. At the little smile he has. Actually, he has a really nice smile. It's a shame she doesn't see it on him all the time.

Too bad she's too shy to admit that just yet and she quickly returns to her work.]

I...really like art. It's so nice! All the pretty colors and everything.

[ you're not. the thought floats off silently with only a nod to reaffirm her question and agree with her points. ]

I picked it up myself.

[ art. painting. it's almost weird to actually say it. considering eren never actually had a hobby, but here it was. when he needs to get the edge off, the massive dragon of a man fingerpaints. ]

Really? Maybe you could...could paint out here? Sometime.

[She might be offering to paint with him. Just doing so badly. But she's trying!]

[ one person who is trying her best and another that is Sometimes Dense™ is not a good match in cases like these! eren doesn't see beyond that, for the most part, and blinks while trying to assimilate. ]

I've done it, once. [ with some unhappy grunting and a wrinkle of his nose: ] It was raining.

I...I like the rain. There's fewer people when it rains.

[She's putting the finishing touches on the painting now, adding in details like his scales and such.]

But I wouldn't mind if we did it...together.

[Maybe that will...make more sense.]

[usurpers]

[ —oh. pleasantly surprised by the invite, his eyes gather up a sort of life to them. expectant, maybe? one would say excitement if he ended up beaming, but he's not so explosive with emotions like that as of late (a few years). ]

. . . I wouldn't either. We'll just need to pick a place.

[ and in other news, he realizes better now: those are his scalies. ]

[Her face lights up. He really doesn't mind. Smiling at him, she looks back to her work to finish up some details before carefully pulling the page away. Shyly, she offers it to him.]

Um...this is for you. I hope you don't mind that I...included you.

[And it's a very good work of him too! It looks just like him!]

[ oh my god . . . why does bernie exist. it almost looks real. the further surprise only strays from eren’s face when it softens into loose-lipped smile. might be best to let that dry before taking it, but he’s already gone examining the handiwork from top to bottom. ]

It’s amazing, [ and with an almost awkward dip of his head, but with gratitude all the same: ] thanks.

[ he’ll just have to paint her, next time. and it won’t be so detailed. holding the plants out in his hands, he gently slides their stems back into the vase. ]

The flowers, too?

Mm. [She nods her head, cheeks coloring at how pleased she is that he likes the picture.]

You can have them. I can always get more later.

[usurpers]

[ you know what else—? eren had considered doing it later, but he doesn’t have any concrete plans for now as he cradled his new vase. ]
