Who: Bernadetta and YOU
When: First couple of weeks in the month

What: Bernadetta is having to adjust to some new changes. It's a lot to take in! For someone who is getting smaller every day...
Warnings: Hopefully just her usual anxieties. But I'll throw up a warning for potential mentions of child abuse (she had a rough childhood) just in case. Other than that it's just body transformation things!

A. Home is where the heart is (Closed to the people she lives with at the Lions or Eagles houses)

[Those who live with Bernie may not see her that often. Which, honestly, is pretty normal! She loves to spend time in her room and keep to herself. With that said there's always food for either household and she makes sure it's well suited to individual needs. Of course she makes sure that she doesn't make a mess either. After all she doesn't want to be a rude housemate!

With that said, her housemates might notice something rather...odd. Or maybe even a few things.

For one, she's definitely been getting smaller. She'd started out at around 5'5" but now those around might notice that she's got to have shrunk...several inches. Why, she's shorter than Edelgard now!

But there's more than that. Thin, almost hairlike things are starting to stick up from her hair. She's a little self conscious about how weird they might look so she's been dodging people. That and the fact that the window in the back of her clothes is definitely showing off very noticeable nubs that indicate her incoming wings. And are her ears...pointier?

Well she can't dodge people forever. Eventually one of them will find her! Especially if she thinks she's alone and has a space to do some sewing or reading in another part of the house.]

B. Sometimes she has to get outside

[It's rare for her to go outside right now with her odd looking changes but she knows she can't hide forever. Besides, she really wants to do some painting or sewing outside! Which means that she tries to find a private but pretty location to do just that. It helps that there's a lot of gardening things going on right now which happens to be one of her favorite things in the universe.

A nice vase of flowers arranged on the ground before her as she hums to herself while she either paints it or embroiders the design of it onto fabric. She seems lost in her own little world so she's not likely to notice she has company right away.

Don't let that stop you though. She might be jumpy but friendship is good for her!]

[Curious, she leans back to look at the bump. It's not too bad to look at but it tore a shirt?]

I think mine are wings.

[Turning, she shows the window of her clothes at her shoulder blades. There are two decent sized bumps where it looks like wings will be coming in at some point based on their placement.]

I hope that's what they are...

[ YEP. it started off large, and then it shrunk down to fit his land form. it's a long story. ]

Yeah? I can see you with wings. I think they'd match you!

[ well. assuming they're pretty wings, anyway. she deserves those! ]

... I just hope it won't be painful when they appear.

It probably won't hurt as much as the time I say in the same spot for hours without moving...

[Not that she'd had a choice in that one. She'd been tied to the chair after all.]

Hopefully not more than that.

Huh?

[ well that's...not what he was expecting her to say at all. ]

How'd that happen?

Oh...

[Maybe she shouldn't have said anything.]

I was tied to a chair and left alone. To teach me to behave.

[ at that, lance feels his heart sink. his blood turns a little colder and his eyes go wide. ]

What? But...but why?

I... I wasn't a very good heir but I am my father's only child. So he wanted me to be an obedient wife to make it easier to marry me to someone.

[She takes a deep breath then sighs.]

So he'd tie me to a chair when I was little. Then leave me for hours. To let me learn how to be a quiet and obedient wife. At least until he gave up and just ignored me since I was a disappointment.

[ he's quiet for a moment as she speaks. lance isn't one to get mad very easily -- not keith mad, but actually mad -- this, however, is enough. he looks at her with anger in his eyes, hand balling into a fist. ]

What the hell is his problem?

[ yeah. he's angry. he wants to spew a couple of foul things about her father right now, but he knows it might scare her. so...he just takes in a deep breath to reign himself in, then: ]

Look, Bernie -- you're not a disappointment. You don't need to be a quiet and obedient wife. You just need to be yourself.

[ he can't manage a smile right now, but his expression does soften a bit. he looks at her seriously. he speaks with a conviction she's probably never heard him use before. ]

Coming from someone who's let people down many, many times, you're great the way you are.

I was a terrible heir. Not even a boy...

[She smiles sadly. This is something she's lived with her entire life. It's what she's clearly just used to. Unfortunately.

Looking up at Lance though, she feels her cheeks color before she looks down again.]

I'm not that great. But you haven't let me down. So you must be alright.

[loverboi]

I don't know what the right thing is to say here, but...

[ well. he has to try. especially after she said something sweet to him. he reaches out and gently, softly puts his hand on her shoulder. his touch is light, so as not to startle her. ]

For what it's worth, you don't have to worry about being any of that here. All the Mirrorbound are on the same level -- well, at least I like to think so. And hey, I wouldn't be hanging out with you if I thought you weren't great.

[ he moves his hand from her shoulder, looking down at the grass. ]

I can't say I've been through what you went through before, but I'm glad you trust me enough to tell me something like that.

[His hand is so warm and comforting. She wonders if he even realizes that. Maybe he doesn't. Which is a shame. Smiling a little more now, she lowers the painting she's doing which makes it easier to see the beautiful flowers she's colored onto it.]

I trust you. You make me feel safe. I don't know why that is because so much of everything scares me.

[Maybe that's weird. She hopes it's not.]

I'm really glad we're friends.

[loverboi]

[ he definitely does not realize that, but he makes her feel safe? wow. he...wasn't expecting that. lance looks surprised for a bit before a wide grin spreads across his lips. ]

Yeah? I'm glad to hear that, because I am too.

[ his eyes flicker over to her painting. ]

I like your painting, by the way. I didn't know you were so good at it!

Hm?

[She looks down at her painting.]

Really? I was thinking maybe I did the colors wrong. Like maybe I made them too bright.

[He likes it though?]

I'm not an expert or anything, but I think it looks great!

[ really, he does. his drawings are pretty.......sub par in comparison to hers. well. a lot of people's, really. he has no room to be a critic. ]

You think so?

[She looks up hopefully then smiles, obviously so glad she didn't mess this up. Then again, she's not painting around Linhardt who is a horribly harsh critic.]

Maybe... Maybe I could draw you something?

Me?

[ he blinks a few times. ]

Really? You'd do that? [ he doesn't sound offended -- quite the opposite, actually. ]

If that's okay with you?

[Bernie sets her canvas aside so she can pick up her sketchbook as well as a pencil. Making sure she's on a clean page, she looks over at him.]

I think I have an idea for one.

[loverboi]

Y-Yeah! I mean, it's fine with me, I just feel like I should be paying you for this?

[ art takes a long time, okay!! ]

Pay? Oh I'm not that good. It's okay.

[She doesn't think she is anyway. But she does start with delicate little lines.]

Um...did I stop you from doing something when you came out here?

You are, though! I could never draw like that in my entire life!

[ listen, he really does want to pay her for her time, but he's not going to leave her question unanswered. ]

Nah, not really. I was just gonna find a quiet spot to do a little bit of exercise and then take a nap or something, no big deal. Why?

[Her cheeks color at the compliment. Time to focus on the other topic! Much easier!]

I just didn't want to stop you if you were busy. Since I probably distracted you already.

[Which she feels bad about in that case.]

If you wanted to exercise I can keep quiet.

[loverboi]

No way! You didn't distract me at all. I can exercise whenever I want since my friends and I have a mansion, so don't worry about it.

[ he shrugs. ] Hanging out with you's a lot more fun, anyway.

It is?

[She pauses in what she's doing to look at him with big wide eyes. Really she's just not at all used to people thinking that. About her of all people. Especially when there's so many interesting people out there in the world.]

You think I'm fun?

[loverboi]

Yeah!

[ he says it with so much confidence, too. he sounds very genuine about it -- and that's because he is. ]

You are. If you weren't, I wouldn't be hanging out with you!
