[another month moving into spring with sporadic rain and thunderstorms. don't forget about all the fun stuff happening this month too.]

[ven's room isn't much better - his bed has just become a giant mess of blankets and pillows to make a nest he can cover himself inside.

ignoring the state of roxas' room ven tugs him over to the bed where ven helps himself to climbing up on the mattress. still feeling his own nesting urges he grabs at some of the spare blankets near the end of the bed and starts arranging them into a makeshift nest for himself and roxas to cuddle in.]

There... that's a little better.

[For the most part Roxas doesn’t get in Ven’s way as he rearranges the blankets to make his bed more of a nest, though he does smirk a bit at the display. He curls up in the nest beside Ven, leaning against him.]

And this is supposed to help?

[without thinking, ven wraps his arms around roxas as they curl up together. everything smells like him, warm and comforting and ven feels like some of his own exhaustion might slip away like this.]

It helps me... so I'm sure it'll help you too!

[The arm wrapped around him makes him tense in surprise, but he soon relaxes against Ven.]

I hope so.

[He does feel a little better like this, if he’s being honest. His tail flops beside him.]

...I hope this doesn’t last long. I hate being so irritated all the time. [What with this being tired and his headaches and stuff. He pauses, ears lowering somewhat.]

I snapped at Sora earlier.

I don't think it'll last too much longer. Usually I start feeling better after a week.

[ven starts to close his eyes, tucking his face in between the blankets and roxas when he says that. he turns to look up at him.]

You did? What happened?

[twilightskey]

My headache was really bad, so I went to low on the couch. I was using his jacket as a pillow, and when he asked for it back, I got mad. I don’t even know why I got so irritated; I just didn’t want to give it back while I was using it.

[His shoulders hunch, and his ears lay flat against his head.]

When he tried to take it, I just... snapped at him. I... I’m pretty sure I scared him, too, because he ran off really fast.

[He pauses, and a part of him doesn’t want to admit this, but after a brief pause he takes a shaky breath and lets it out slowly.]

And when he ran off? I had to stop myself from chasing after him. It was almost like I wanted to... to chase him, and catch him. [To hunt him, even. But Roxas pushes that feeling down. He hadn’t wanted to hunt Sora. He didn’t. Really.]

[He curls in further on himself, lifting his knees up so he can rest his arms on them and bury his face in his arms.]

I didn’t mean to act like that, Ven. I just... did.

[ven listens quietly, heart aching a little for roxas and sora both knowing whatever they're going through was a familiar suffering. he wasn't used to all of the new, strange emotions that cropped up with his transformations and dealing with them was even harder.

ven reaches up to pet at one of roxas' ears again. it was something he knew he liked so he hoped it'd help roxas too.]

A couple of times I got so mad at Vanitas I actually attacked him. I even tried biting his throat because I was so angry at him.

[even remembering those emotions made his chest hurt and an uneasiness fall over him. he's sure vanitas still had the bite marks on his arm too.] There were other times too... when I did things I never thought I was capable of, but I did them anyways- [going feral in the fighting rings, nearly losing his leg trying to fend off waver from killing him.] but Sora is a good person and so are you, Roxas. I'm sure he'd understand if you just apologized to him.

[twilightskey]

[The ear-scratching helps more than Roxas thought it would; the gentle motion and feel help to stave off that growing anxiety, give him something to help soothe and ground him. It makes him lean into Ven more, and Ven can probably feel some of that tension begin to loosen.]

[He listens to Ven carefully as he speaks, his head lifting up in surprise.]

You did..?

[Roxas knows how irritating Vanitas can be, but hearing Ven getting so angry that he attacked Vanitas? It’s shocking to think that these transformations have affected Ven so much. But he also feels a bit of relief, knowing someone else knows what he’s gone through.]

I hope you’re right. I’m just... scared. Before he ran off Sora looked at me like I was... some kind of monster.

I know this world changes us, but... I don’t want to change that much. I don’t want to be a monster.

I tried to kill him. I couldn't think of anything else...

[it's something he's still ashamed of, but he knows vanitas may see it differently. vanitas saw everything differently from him.] This place can bring out the worst in you and every time it happens I'm never really ready for it. I don't think anyone is.

[ven tucks his head back against roxas, closing his eyes.]

You won't. No matter what happens, you're still you, Roxas.

Ven...

[That's such a shocking thing to learn. And while he doesn't know Ven as well as Aqua or Sora might, he knows him well enough to know that Ven actually trying to kill someone is almost unheard of. It makes his ears lower again just thinking about it.]

[Just how much does this place change people..?]

[Despite his worrying thoughts, Roxas looks down at Ven as he tucks in against him. Maybe it's the closeness, or the fact Ven isn't afraid of him, but it comforts him greatly. He leans back against Ventus, resting his own head against Ven's.]

...Thanks, Ven. You're right; I shouldn't let this world get to me. Just because I had a bad day... doesn't mean I'm a monster. Right?

[It's said half to convince himself, and half to seek some reassurance from Ven. After all, he's been here longer than Roxas has.]

I do feel bad for scaring Sora, though. I wonder how I can make it up to him...

[his attempt at vanitas was something ven still felt horrible for, but what made it worse was knowing vanitas wasn't the first person he hurt. his time kept prisoner by the rathmores had awakened new parts of himself ven hated more than anything.

he lets that part of the conversation fall away because as much as he wants roxas to feel better if he continues down this road of remembering he'll start to feel worse himself.

but feeling roxas curling around him, relaxing into their shared embrace loosens the tightness inside his chest.]

None of us are monsters. We're just... people who make mistakes sometimes.

[ven hums softly, a little muted from being tucked in so much.]

... he likes flowers, right? You could pick some for him as an apology?

[There's still a lot that Roxas doesn't know about this world. Still a lot he doesn't know about what those who've been here longer went through. He still hasn't asked Ven to go into detail about his scars, and he's not sure if he ever will. Especially with how Ven seems to go quiet and grow uneasy around the topic.]

Yeah. We're still people.

[It's said to reassure himself, but hopefully, Ven gets some reassurance himself. It hurts to know that one of his friends, especially someone as bright and airy as Ven, could have been hurt so bad.]

[But like Ven, Roxas is willing to let that conversation fall. Instead, he perks up, an ear raising.]

Flowers? [Thinking about it, he did notice Sora seemed to like flowers more often now.]

You think that would work?

[callmeven]

[his tail starts to wag a little, making a soft sound against the bed sheets and blankets.] He likes snacking on them, right? Him and Ienzo are always chewing on something green so maybe it's a puca thing?

[the mental image is a little comical and ven's smile is hidden between roxas and the bed.]

But I feel like Sora is someone who would like flowers even if they're snacks or not.

[Roxas actually perks up at that, his ears raising. His own tail slowly begins to wag.]

That sounds like a good idea. I could ask the greenhouse what kind of flowers would be safe for pucas.

If you find out what's good for Pucas we should plant them out in the gardens too.

[ven turns to look up at roxas with a bright expression.]

[twilightskey]

Yeah. I like that idea.

[Ven's bright expression helps to shake some of the negativity Roxas has been feeling, and he smiles back softly at Ven.]

We can even make a section just for him to eat, so he won't tear up the whole garden.

I think Ienzo would like that too... he likes veggies and stuff like that. [he's found some of those fermented foods he's made in the pantry...

ven snuggles closer, tucking his face into roxas' chest.]

[twilightskey]

[Roxas nods.] I think that would be really good. For all of us.

[Ven snuggling closer makes his ears perk up in surprise, but he doesn't pull away. Rather, he curls around Ven, resting his own face in Ven's hair and wrapping an arm around Ven to hold him closer.]

[It's closer than he normally is with his friends back home, but it's... nice. Both to these new monster instincts and for his nerves overall. He still feels bad about what happened, but he's a lot calmer and relaxed now.]
