Mareuer - Catch all
Who: Hakuno

i. L'Amourtentia - Early Mareuer
Let's see... all that's left is to simmer it.
[Hakuno steps back and stretches, wings fluttering open slowly in unison as she shakes off the accumulated stiffness. When she drops her arms and the pale wings relax, her expression turns a bit rueful.]
...of all the things I thought I might make here, this was never exactly on the list.
ii. crafting
[As of late, Hakuno has been filled with a certain brand of restless energy in the evenings. While in part, she had been going to bed later in order to allow the other two people she sleeps there with to have some quality time alone, she had been confronted with an odd sense of wrongness to be idle in the meantime. Always in the market for a new hobby, now that there was time and the opportunity for it, she had ventured out to a crafting store and come back with a felting kit and a beginner's guide. And since then...
Well.]
...I might have gotten a little carried away...
[The basket in her arm holds an assortment of cute little animals that piled up over the nights and weeks, which she now has to find a place for.
She brushes a finger over one of the bunnies, her expression a bit sheepish.]
iii. practice makes perfect - Late Mareuer
[It had taken her a few weeks to feel confident in her new enjoyment of her music lessons—for her to know she'd stick with it, once the novelty wore off—and to amass the funds she needed for a good, quality violin of her own, but after a bit of budgeting she comes away with her very own. She mostly does her practice outside, in less frequented parks or out of the way areas. The benefit is two-fold: one, the apartment, while nice, is a bit too small and close to the neighbors for her to feel comfortable using it there, and two, she doesn't want to hear Gilgamesh's review on her amateur hour.
So, the general public gets that honor instead. If you listen closely and care to follow it through paths or a side street—or you're just looking for shelter from the rain—you might find a lightly dressed fae carefully working her way through a simple, lilting melody—something native to hear, but alone the lines of Ode to Joy or Claire de Lune in terms of simplicity—with a look of utter focus on her features beneath a gazebo or overhang, waiting for a spring drizzle to die out.

Hakunon!
[After calling out, she waves for a moment before quickly walking closer.]
What did you get carried away with?
no subject
[Hakuno shift slightly, tilting the basket so that her friend can see for herself.]
These. I started making them recently, to pass the time.
no subject
Oh! They’re so cute! And you made them? They look like they could be sold in a toy store by a professional toy maker. You must be very talented, Hakunon!
[This is probably not true, but Leslie has both rose-tinted glasses about the people she likes and a a lifetime total of about fifteen minutes in a toy store, so this is said with absolute sincerity.]
no subject
[She wiggles the basket temptingly.]
I don't suppose you'd do me the favor of taking a few off my hands?
no subject
Did you not have a reason for making these? Like, for yourself, or to give to someone, or to sell?
[Leslie conveniently forgets she's someone here.]
no subject
[Waiting for her Bonded to stop banging his Bonded, she doesn't say, because these are little ears.]
They've started to pile up.
no subject
Well, if there are too many...and you don't have any other uses for them...I'd like that one.
[She hesitantly points to a rabbit. Yes, Hakuno said take "a few" off her hands, but she has to push herself a fair bit to even ask for one.]
no subject
[She passes it over, then cups her cheek, looking worried.]
...you don't suppose it would get lonely, do you...?
no subject
Do you think so?
[If you gave her a moment to think about it, she’d know the answer is “no, it’s a doll; it doesn’t have feelings.” But she’s working off the answers of the heart right now, and like for many people who love stuffed animals, the heart is answering “that would be sad if it happened.”]
Would it be okay if I took a couple more? I know there are a lot of other people who could use them, like among the refugee children, and you’ve already given me a lot of things that I can’t make anything as good in return, but....
[She trails off, not entirely sure what she wants to say there.]
no subject
You know what? I think both of those are great ideas, Lissy.
[She reaches out and rubs her friend's head, smiling fondly.]
I didn't even consider the refugees might want these. I think such helpful advice more than evens us out for a few more dolls. I'm so lucky to have such a clever friend.
no subject
I only thought of it because the last time you gave me something like this -- on Valentine's Day, they were raising money for the refugees. Although I don't have anything for you this time.
[Ah, guilt makes a comeback...but, even so, she does look into the basket.]
But if you're really sure....
[She reaches in the basket and selects two cats and a dog. Hey, guess which pets her house now has! (Her house also has a cobra, but that one is less cuddly.)]
no subject
[She gives a round of pats, one to each of the dolls and then Leslie again, her voice softening.]
Leslie, you don't have to have anything for me.
[Real names will give this more weight, she figures.]
Making the people I care about happy isn't something I always had the option to do, where I started. Getting to do it now makes me really, really happy.
no subject
It's not that I'm not glad that you are able to do something that makes you so happy.
[She clasps her hands in front of her, fidgeting a little.]
But I didn't get to have that opportunity before, either, and it feels like I'm only relying on other people doing the work to make others happy for me. Even when I gave people chocolates on Valentine's day, Bernadetta is the one who really did all of the work. And I haven't done anything like that this month.
no subject
[In a perfect world, all of them should be.
She smile turns more than a little melancholy.]
Adults are there to be relied on. Just pay it forward when you're all grown up and there's a little girl who you want to make happy. Okay?
no subject
But she's got a bit of a mental block on this part.]
But...I'm not a kid. I'm already twelve years old. I'm too old to be acting spoiled like that.
no subject
[She thinks not.]
no subject
you've got a lot of years left to go, then, huh hakunoLeslie frowns and shakes her head.]No, it's the same in the empire. The law requires that children have the support of their parents until they are eighteen. But it's not the same thing as being a little kid. I have to learn how to be responsible so that I will be able to stand on my own two feet when I become an adult. Especially --
[No, she shouldn't mention the circumstances back home that are particularly pushing for her to believe she needs to be independent. She thinks it's still true regardless.]
I appreciate your kindness, but I can't act spoiled like that. I have too much that I have to learn and do.
