[What Angel Wakes Me - Open]

[The warning signs had been there for months. Rose's insistence on chuckling. Finding things fun that she usually wouldn't. A penchant for trickery. The fact that her burns sustained at the Rathmores' had been healing slowly, even more slowly than she'd expect.]

[One February morning, as she looks in the mirror, she's forced to confront the truth of it all. She'd become the thing she hated most.]

[A fairy.]

[A pair of familiar-looking wings had sprouted on her back, seemingly overnight. She was a good six inches shorter than she was the previous day, putting her just under four and a half feet. The air sparkled around her, as if this appearance wasn't already cursed enough.]

BLOODY HELL!

[Not in the house? Not a problem! Her scream can be heard for miles.]

[The Perks of Being a Wallflower 1 - Open]

[With her wings came a variety of benefits that she'd never expected. For one, people tended to avoid her in crowds. Nobody wanted a fae's wing to hit them in their face, so Rose is blessed with an abundance of personal space.]

[Unfortunately, these wings tended to get caught on things. Rose hasn't mastered the art of walking with wings yet, and when she tries to enter a shop, the end of one of her wings gets caught on the door. She waves the nearest person over, a frown on her face.]

I appear to need some help.

[The Perks of Being a Wallflower 2 - Open]

[Wings are also great for avoiding people. Not only did people avoid her when she walked, she had the ability to float above the crowd, and avoid anyone she didn't like. Which is pretty much everyone.]

[For short periods of time, anyway. Rose had not properly been briefed on the dangers of fae flight. As it turns out, there's a very limited amount of stamina that she has, and there's only so long that she can sustain flight. Unfortunately, she finds this out as she's trying to fly over a relatively small crowd, and ends up crashing into somebody as she falls to the ground.]

Unbelievable.

[It's not an apology, but at least she's small, so it doesn't hurt as much. Right?]

[A Night on the Town - Open]

[With all the stress of her transformation, Rose needs a night on the town. So she signs up for speed-dating, despite her inherent disinterest in meeting new people. Or her inherent hatred of people themselves.]

[Make no mistake, she is here for the bar. In the spirit of her newfound faedom, her sole purpose tonight is to terrorize everyone here. Participants only get to talk for two minutes each! No matter. Rose needs far less than two minutes to scare most of the participants off.]

[Whoever matches with her will find a disgruntled Miqo'te sitting in the seat opposite them. She has a mug in her hand, and a frown on her face.]

Don't bother talking. I'm sure it won't end well for you.

[And a charming personality, to boot.]

[Rose had found the pool once before, and so she hadn't expected finding it again to be an issue. Which is probably why she agreed so willingly when Vanitas offered to come along; they would be in and out quickly, and her time spent with the youth would be short.]

[At least, that's how things would have worked in a perfect world. They've been in the Wilde for hours now, in just the area Rose remembers seeing it before, with no luck. She's fairly certain they've been wandering in circles, and is beginning to get a little frustrated.]

Couldn't they have made this place easier to find? What's the point of a magic pond if no one can use it.

[Okay, very frustrated.]

[ Oh he had offered to tag along all right. Tag along and be a complete nuisance to Rose, of course. At least that had been the plan. Having Mira around might curb that slightly, but not enough to keep Vanitas entirely silent. ]

Maybe that's the point: No one is supposed to use it.

[ Not that he minds being out here too much, really. Hours wasted is a little grating, but over all? It's actually good to get out of the city for a bit. ...Not that he will admit to this. ]

[So...Mira is the babysitter. Got it. She herself is getting a bit tired in trying to find this water and rests against a tree to catch her breath.]

Perhaps that is why it is hard to find; magical item needs to be find by magical means?

[Mira is absolutely the babysitter. Mira is the only reason that Rose hasn’t attempted to throttle Vanitas yet. At least the boy seems well behaved. For now, anyway.]

[Rose looks again at the forest around them. Being a fae should attune her with nature more, and it does. It also gives her a penchant for seeing through illusion magic, which she doesn’t sense here.]

No, I doubt that. It is a pool of desire; perhaps we have to wish for something?

I thought the whole point was to look into the pool to see what you desire.

[ If you wish for something, then don't you already know what you want? That would make looking into those waters pointless, right? ]

Perhaps there are desires that we do not know we have. Hidden ones so to speak. Besides, the Coven wishes to know of this water as well.

[Maybe medical properties? But what would the waters show one who doesn't know their desire?]

[Rose nods towards Mira.]

I think you have the right of it. If you think about it, all of us have to want something.

[For Rose, she only wished to be home with her family. It was a wish she’d never see granted, of course, but that didn’t alter it in any way.]

What about the two of you? What do you want?

[ Vanitas, for the most part, stays silent while the two talk. He is busy examining the trees and whatnot. Looking for anything they might have missed. Any indication they aren't jus going in circles. ]

I want to be whole, obviously.

[ No secret there. ]

[Too bad her current partner is fearless; not to be confused with courageous by default. Irhya just sets her elbows and leans her chin on her hands and grins. It's definitely a challenge as far as she's concerned.]

Somebody sign you up without your knowledge or something?

[ why does he keeping coming back to this speed dating thing? it's probably the promise of free food and drink since jongdae is not gainfully employed and talking to a bunch of strangers for minutes at a time isn't really that hard.

the person who sits down across from her probably looks more like he ought to be in bed rather than where they are. he's pale to the point of the colour having mostly gone out of his lips and the lighting in here is really bringing out the bruise-like shadows under his eyes. but he's got a fruity-looking drink in his hand (it even has a little umbrella!) and his eyes are bright for someone who otherwise looks fairly unwell. ]

Oho? But I kinda like challenges. Are those real?

[ he points up at his head, indicating her ears. because she's a cat. ]

Heh, that's probably a dumb question, huh? I should ask if those showed up with the full moon, probably. Still getting used to all these monster things..

[ he leans forward to sip from his drink, unable to keep a smile off his face. he's quite stubborn; he's very sure he can handle this. ]

[Even without his powers and superhuman abilities, his senses are way above the average human. Couple that with his experience on and off the battlefield and Bishop is clearly a man of great skill, endurance, and reliability however even men like him have their moments that humble them. The come in various forms, sometimes brought about by their own hand like overestimating one's drinking tolerance and displaying how proficient you are at "drunken fist" kung fu against your own shadow then losing while claiming they cheated like a sore loser.

Or, in this case, a four and a half foot fairy cat lady falling out of the sky while absent mindlessly thinking "how many people did it take to discover how to eat pufferfish without dying?"

The thought followed by "Oh shit, person" then appropriately "Ow" as Bishop went from person to human pillow spread out on the floor with Rose right on top of him.]

I second that.

[This was not how he expected today to go.]

[Now it was Mira's turn. What exactly was her desire?]

Just some peace and quiet for awhile.

[Mainly because she's unsure how anyone would handle 'The world being at peace so the Warrior of Light and Darkness is no longer needed'. It's the only desire she can think of right now.]

[By the time Rose gets that warning out, her match for this round has already hopped into his seat, mouth open and all set to launch into a whole bunch of nosy questions. But she does manage to beat him to getting actual words out!

Leaving the little puca opposite her at the table staring quizzically back at her, his long ears perked high overhead. That's no fair! He's only here to pester people--the bartender wouldn't even serve him, probably, and he's been trying to swear off shapechanging to trick people just for fun, lately. Also, it may be medically impossible for him to stay quiet for two whole minutes.

Clearly, they are at cross-purposes here. But!! A compromise occurs to him, and he races to start scribbling on one of the pads the event's organizers have on offer, dashing out big, blue letters. A second or two later, and he holds up the results for her to read:]

NOOOO, WHY NOT??? U(ᗒᗣᗕ)U

[Avoiding people isn't exactly Natsuru's priority, so much as avoiding notice. It's for that reason that she's started to really use her glamours more out in public. Her height might be a tell, as she's reluctantly accepted her diminished stature as normal. Even her larger, more doll-like eyes alone looked just human enough not to earn too many strange looks. But all the other telling features could be hidden or obscured rather easily. As long as nothing startled her out of it.

Such as, say, a fairy cat lady tumbling from midair straight towards her.]

Hah-?!

[Delicate though she might seem, Natsuru is able to brace herself so that the crash doesn't knock her over. It does break her hold on her glamour, though, revealing her true appearance - pointed ears, feathery antennae, and wings fluttering in an effort to maintain her balance.

She'd managed to catch Rose enough to keep the other woman on her feet too, assuming Rose can manage to disentangle herself from the other Fae holding her. Color rises to Natsuru's cheeks at the woman's unusual response to the crash, and she quickly tries to pull away while still being careful not to let Rose fall.]

S-Sorry! Are... you okay?

[Once she's pulled back a little bit, she's especially surprised to notice this woman is actually shorter than her. Not by much, but still something Natsuru hasn't seen since her own changes kicked in. It's kind of hard not to notice.]

[Rose nods. ‘Peace and quiet’ does sound lovely.]

[If she didn’t have to be the Warrior of Light, she would quietly slip out of town, and board a boat to Hingashi so she could be with her family. She wouldn’t tell anybody where she was going, and she might not even return.]

[Of course, she’s not going to say any of that out loud. Instead, what she mentions is:]

I, for one, could use a good night’s sleep.

[ Oh there is quite a chuckle that comes from Vanitas upon hearing that. ]

Honestly I think all three of us could use that.

[ It's an actual serious response too. Rose probably doesn't expect it. Or maybe she does. Vanitas knows he doesn't really sleep well. Mira doesn't either because she hardly rests. ]

Agreed.

[Vani wouldn't be lying; Mira hasn't properly rested ever since the kidnappings even when she finally lies down to try. And how many times does that get interrupted?]

Is there some sign we should be watching for?

[His attention's certainly caught. He can't help a moment of being glad his own are easy enough to tuck back, making his way over to Rose.]

Ah… yes, I believe I can assist. Those are… really quite extraordinary, aren't they?

[How badly caught are they? He wants to cause as little damage as possible to them, after all.]

[Rose shakes her head. As much as she hates the thought of Vanitas, it's nice to find something they agree on. Even if it's something as small as the benefit of a good night's rest.]

Not that I recall. Last time, I remember feeling unsure about something, and the next thing I knew, the pond was right in front of me.

[Rose grins and raises her glass towards Irhya.]

No, I volunteered myself. I figured a night on the town would be relaxing.

[Translation: 'This is fun for me.']

[ A shame, really. Rose might not like Vanitas overly much, but he actually doesn't mind her. Not that she'll know this.

He clocks his tongue against his teeth. ]

What was it you were unsure about?

[She is indeed a cat. She is a cat that does not like people, and does not like the implication that her Miqo'te features are because she's a monster. They are a proud race of felines.]

Are you implying that I'm a monster?

[Technically she is, but she's choosing to ignore the whole 'fae' thing right now. Even though there are two bright wings extending from her back.]

Yes, they are. And yes, I had them before. I'm a Miqo'te, not a monster.

[It's not how she expected today to go, either. The one benefit of being a fae, and she doesn't get to enjoy it? What's the point of being a fae if she can't avoid other people.]

[Truly, her life is suffering.]

[Rose gets up and dusts herself off, paying little mind to Bishop in the process. There's a good chance that she accidentally hits him in the face...but surely that's fine, right?]

What's the point of wings if they don't even work?

[Rose knows a nuisance when she sees one, and Momiji is no exception. There's a part of her that's impressed he's able to be quiet for any amount of time at all. It's clearly very difficult, if the speed at which he picks up the pad is any indication.]

[And then, it dawns on her. She has an idea. A terrible, terrible idea.]

[She's going to have fun tonight.]

Because I'm a witch. [It's a lie, she's a fae.]

I can inflict you with a terrible curse. If you speak in front of me, I can steal your voice.

[Not even remotely true.]

Forever.

[There are many things it is hard not to notice. For example, it's hard not to notice the frown on Rose's face as she tries--and fails--to get to her feet. The fact that the girl she lands on is also a fae doesn't escape her attention, but she also doesn't care.]

[At least, she doesn't care until their wings manage to get tangled. Rose is on her feet, thankfully, but she's not able to stand fully without leaning on the other woman for support. What did she do to deserve this?]

[Eventually she gets her wings free, but not without a bit of work. She frowns.]

Physically, yes. I'm not used to these horrid things yet.

[Rose makes a motion to her aforementioned wings, which are still slowing moving backwards and forwards.]
