I. Small Girl, Big Responsibilities

[With new arrivals comes new responsibilities-- especially considering one of those arrivals just so happens to be one of the students of the branch campus. While he may not be a member of Class IX, she is currently the only instructor present that knows him. Ash being... well, Ash... she knows it isn't going to be easy. He's going to want to go off on his own and here, there's not much she can do to stop him.

So right now, she just wants to focus on giving him the best welcome dinner that she can. Maybe if they really made him feel welcome and he enjoyed himself, there wouldn't be any need to worry about him going off on his own.

...wishful thinking.]

I don't normally cook with alcohol however... I think he might like it...

[Ash Carbide liked what Ash Carbide shouldn't have. It might be worth indulging him a little though.]

I wonder what's best...?

II. Would You Light My Candle?

How pretty!

[This festival has a soft and enchanting glow to it, as residents and mirrorbound alike are encouraged to light candles with bonds and loved ones. Just seeing the flickering glow was putting her in a good mood.]

They say that if you light it with someone you care about, it will bring good luck to your relationship.

[Perhaps it is a bit sappy, but she does have to admit that she has a bit of a soft spot for things like this. But it also makes her think of people that she misses; people that had come and gone and those that were simply gone. It's a bittersweet feeling.]

III. Sweetest Treats

[One other interesting thing about this festival was that it had a pretty simple dish going around. It was a thin pancake topped with fruits, nuts and cream that looked absolutely delicious. The thing was-- it was meant to be shared. Much as she'd like to eat it--]

...it would look pretty sad if I ate it by myself, huh...?

[She laughed awkwardly, but-- it's not like she doesn't feel anything looking at other couples doing it. Quite the opposite. But those were the kinds of feelings that she didn't like having, and pushed down. It wasn't like there weren't people she could ask. But it would feel weird with the connotation. Although she was quite happy overall, it was pretty complicated.]

All this over a silly dessert...

[Time to slap her face and pull it together. Maybe-- maybe she'd just ask the person she wanted to and be done with it. Or maybe you'd also like a bite and want someone to help you get it.]

It's a similar concept yes! Only it's run within the community, rather than being attached to any political or government affiliations.

[So. Yeah, without all the corruption.]

The way it works, basically is people come to me with their requests and I post them for Bracers to see, or find someone to assign them to, if the situation is dire.

Yes, I think so too.

[It really is entirely unfair how attractive Lancer is. It's really no wonder that having the woman lean in so close is making her heart race a bit. No matter how many times it happens, she still can't say she's used to the attention.]

I-- well... I didn't have any plans in particular...

[She really needs to work on her flirting. And her general ability to withstand such from those she finds attractive.]

No ideas come to mind at all? A warrior like yourself surely must have some energy to burn through, stored away in winter's cold.

[ Okay she was laying it on very thick, even by her own standards, but she couldn't help herself. Towa was so cute like this. This sort of thing was fine, too, she assured herself. Towa had already proven herself worthy of her attention, after all. Now it was a matter of move and countermove, to draw out the girl's attack... ]

[If she was trying not to think of ideas before, she was certainly thinking of them now, whether she meant to or not. Which only serves to fluster her more.]

I... perhaps...

[She is not all that familiar with being pursued. In most cases, she has been the one to take that step. It is a thrill of it's own, if she really let herself believe that this was really happening right now.]

With... the right companion...

[There's no denying Lancer was more than a worthy companion. She was someone that Towa enjoyed being around a great deal. Not to mention being gorgeous--]

So you earn money instead of getting funding...

[Not a question. But there was some doubt there. Because while it seemed nice, there wasn't a consistency. ]

Are people involved able to have other jobs at the same time?

[Towa nods.]

Yes, certainly! I have another job as well as some volunteer work I do over at the refugee school. As a Bracer there is no limit to the work you can take on— likewise, there are no strict rules about how much you need to do either.

[A workaholic through and through.]

[Mikasa just blinks back, how did she guess the next question? But there is another thing that comes to mind. ]

What's the catch?

[She's just going to say it. Because so far this was sounding pretty good, with no drawbacks. And that kind of thing didn't exist. ]

There’s no catch. How much you do determines how much you earn. And in turn, you can help support others. That’s the reason the guild exists— I just brought the idea here from back home.

[She certainly doesn’t mind the fact that the other girl thought there must be some form of catch. There are many things that do have them, when they sound too good not to. This is just the unusual exception.]

[She gives a long heavy stare. Before nodding.]

Okay. When I'm not working...Once I find something.

[Because she really needed money. And a weapon that didn't burn to touch, but food would be good as well.]

If you'll allow me to make a bold claim... I feel as if I'm quite the companion for you, my lady.

[ The hand that hadn't been holding the candle reached to gently brush her fingertips along the line of Towa's jaw, tilting her chin up0 as she craned her face towards her, eyes catching the glow of the candles' combined flame as she regarded Towa, affection in her smile. ]

Grant me this night... [ She whispered. ] And we'll welcome spring together...

I'll have to introduce you to Fie-- not unlike proper enforcement, there's a certain test to take. But it's more a physical test and test of character.

[While Mikasa could probably find a job on her own, since she's here--]

However! In the meantime, I'd be happy to suggest a few places you might look for something more permanent. There are a lot of businesses here, so I'm sure we can find you something you'll like!

It doesn't hurt to have something to balance the sweetness.

[ He winks at her. ]

Thank you. [A small bow of the head. ]

I... I've never done this before. I'm a bit old to be taking an apprenticeship and I'm not sure if I have any skills that'd be of use. [She'd just signed up for the military. Most people in the walls started their careers young, studying, apprentices, learning the family occupation. She had nothing like that. ]

[Towa finds herself completely incapable and unwanting to resist the gentle tilt, looking up into the bold woman's eyes. Nothing she's said is false, and the affection between them seals it.]

I would... like that. The two of us... together.

[She isn't nearly as eloquent, flustered by what she felt was a very sudden interest. But then-- she was bad at seeing what others saw in her, and aware of it, so she has to trust others. Her own feelings about the woman were without question, as simple as her answer.]

When I took my first job here, I didn't have any experience doing that sort of work either. There are always businesses that are looking for part-time workers and it's a good way to get some experience with different types of work.

[Towa puts a reassuring hand on Mikasa's shoulder with a smile.]

But you should still look for something that you think you'll enjoy-- or that you think you'll get some useful skills from. As long as you're interested in learning, there are plenty of places that would be happy to have the help!

[Leans slightly when she realises what Towa is doing.]

They'd allow that? I thought I was too old... [She's nineteen. That's like middle-aged when fifteen year olds die on the regular. Heck, Levi was practically a fossil. ]

Look for something I enjoy...

[It was quieter, a mummer as she tipped her head down to think. What did she want to do? Well she could think of what she'd wanted when she was younger. But none of her dreams were really money earners. Not in a place like this.]

[Thank you, she wishes all tall people were as nice as you about height.]

Of course! In this case, it's not so much about age. For example-- I started out doing part time work at a tailor shop called Precogstitchin'. I didn't know anything about making clothes before, although my aunt and uncle run a store back home-- so I knew the basics about selling.

I learned a lot that way though. I can even make basic garments now!

Well if I can have both then of course I'd want both.

[Salty and sweet are a perfect flavor combination.]

[If Towa wasn't a good she wouldn't be saying that. Cause she'd be being leaned on and bullied. ]

That's good. That they were willing to teach you, and pay you at the same time. Most places... [Someone who had to be trained wasn't earning their keep, so normally they were just not paid. She'd had other reasons, but a few had joined the military for the possible meals and a bed. ]

At the moment I can...I'm strong. [and uhhh] I can sew a little and grow things.

[And with that she silently stares back. That is it, those are her skills. ]

[ If Scathach didn't consider Towa a warrior in her own right, someone brave and true, she honestly wouldn't have bothered with her. But those qualities had shined through, and what's more, she was terribly cute. It made all of this that much simpler for her.

She closed the distance between them, pressing her lips against Towa's, gentle but impressing all the same, insistent in its affection and welcoming it from her as well. ]

[Towa listens to her and nods. Even if it's not much, there are certainly areas where those skills could be quite useful.]

I'd be happy to ask at the tailor shop if they could use an extra set of hands. It would probably only be part time, but that also means that if you wanted to, you could look for a second job. If not them, I do have another friend who does some sewing that I could ask.

[But wait. There are options.]

Then again,if you're good with growing things as well, there are farms you could probably talk to about helping out as well. If not growing, there are always physical tasks they could no doubt use help with. There are plenty of other less direct options you could probably use those skills in too.

[Lancer was one of the first people that had really caught Towa's attention. Not because she was gorgeous (although that much was obvious) but because of her spirit.

She slowly closes her eyes into the kiss, returning it near instantly. It's gentle, if not a bit timid at first, but has a level of care in it for the way that she presses her lips against the other woman's.]

[So many options. Mikasa just blinks back, spoilt for choice she's never had this many before. Well...She has but those choices were all questionable with possible death involved. There's stumble, a small stutter when she opens her mouth and pauses again, thinking.]

I'd...

I'd prefer something active. I'm used to training most of the day and would like to stay in shape.

['Stay in shape' means being built like a brick wall right?]

That shouldn't be too difficult then. I could reach out to some people for you. I have a friend who's currently living on the lands of a farm-- I could probably ask her to help me get in touch with the owner if you're interested.

[Towa is blessed with connections, and it always feels good when they might possibly come in handy. She tries to keep up to date on businesses in the city-- it's just one of the things she likes to do.]

[Mikasa was not expecting this level of help. Not so soon, not without being asked for things in return.]

...What do you get out of it?

[Because even if she couldn't sense anything off, there was still that small wariness. That might never leave. ]
