She casts a skeptical red eye at the celebrations. Eating from the decorative trees seems a lot more like a violation of protocol and expected norms than something important or with real consequences. Maybe it's some unspoken thing that makes so much sense to human that they don't bother explaining it.

"I eat tree bark, mostly. Many trees on Earth suffer if their bark is cut into too much, and can better survive losing the ends of branches." Something her people had had to learn the hard way as they adjusted to freedom. Being made to tend trees didn't mean they intuitively knew how alien versions worked.
