“Yes, that’s how you’d set an ordinary watch,” Yako answers. Most watches from her time are digital, so they don’t need winding at all, but she suspects mentioning that will only confuse Dylas more.

“You have to turn it on first,” she prompts gently, showing him the magically illuminated panel on her own ‘watch.’ She’d been listening enough to the explanation to understand there are ways of getting it to handle writing for people who don’t know how, but it won’t do Dylas much good if he can’t get the hang of getting it turned on. She demonstrates by turning off her own watch and then swiping at it to wake the screen again.

Should Dylas do the same, once the device actually wakes, it’ll have a set of keys and a prompt for the user to enter whatever name they want to use on the network.
