Let the music in tonight [Closed]
Who: Caren and Rich
When: Start of the month
Where: Music hall
What: They're fulfilling a promise and enjoying some music together.
Warnings: None yet!
[It'd been a difficult time, with the mist, and the fallout that no doubt happened due to the confrontation. She had no idea if he had to do community service, or there was a way to wiggle out of it but- mostly they had taken time to recover from what happened, one way or another. Caren had still her work, both with the quests and with the commissions that she took.
But she didn't forget her promise. She checked her schedule, saw that there was some time free, and called Rich up. After some dickering, they were able to figure out a time, and a place to meet- at the music hall entry, so neither of them would miss each other.
Caren stood quietly at the entry, waiting for signs of Rich. With her wings and long tail, she was difficult not to spot- even with her short stature. It was more of a question of trying to find Rich, since she hadn't seen him before. At least the description of the burn had her looking up at faces.]

He agrees enthusiastically to her request, and arrives only minutes before the expected time. He's carrying his guitar in one clawed hand, and despite his short stature, his own reptilian wings, glowing with still slightly burning embers, and his the scales covering his skin in patches certainly make him familiar. The burn isn't exactly visible, but mapping where the scales are, it's easy to tell where it used to be.]
Hey! Caren, right? It's nice to finally meet you.
no subject
Guess the powers that be really wanted dragons around here.]
Ah, yes! That's correct.
[She pulled away from the wall. Though her clothing covered most of her changes- she tended to dress modestly- the owl wings and the long fluffy tail showed she was a chimera.
Does that make you Rich then...? It's a pleasure.
[She offered a gloved hand. It wasn't because she was cold-not with her dense fur-but because her nails tended to catch on things.]
And a pleasant surprise. I didn't realize you were a dragon.
no subject
He notes her tail and wings with a light smile. Honestly, it looks kind of cute on her, though he's sure that wouldn't help her opinions on them if he said so. He takes her hand to shake it warmly, careful to avoid poking her with his own talons.]
Yep, that's me! Rich Goranski, resident spitfire, at your service. I guess whatever magic is in me has a sense of humour, giving me fire breath.
no subject
ANYWAY, she gives his hand a firm polite shake, glad for her gloves. Worked both ways!]
I suppose it did. Though usually I don't hear people call themselves spitfires.
[She offered him a wry look, but it vanished in a few moments.]
Shall we head inside? The cold can't be good for the strings.
no subject
Eh, I've heard enough people call me it that I'm not gonna pretend otherwise. Just trying to stick to the easily excited part of that definition.
[He lifts his guitar up and nods eagerly at her.]
Not good for the strings and not good for me. Let's go in.
no subject
I'm not sure what the other parts of that would be...other then the joke of spitting fire.
[She's a little sheltered. But anyway, she nods, and moves to walk inside-and brings her tail up to drape over one arm as she does so.
It's very soft and very long. Can't let that get in Rich's way.]
no subject
Well, you know, getting pissed off for no reason, definitely spitting fire, even when people don't deserve it.
[He comments as he follows after her, smiling a little at how careful she is with her tail.]
Man, I hope when my tail comes in, it's half as cute as yours is.
no subject
Ah, all right. Now it makes more sense.
[She nodded, and made to fold her wings around herself-though hearing that compliment- she made a soft noise, and blinked, peering back at him. He meant it didn't he? Ah...what was she supposed to do about compliments again...?]
You...may hope for something else, honestly. I've had to prevail on others in helping with its grooming. It doesn't help that the fur is dense either.
no subject
Yeah, I can imagine it's a pain to get all the knots out of the fur. Does it take a long time to brush out?
no subject
It is and isn't. It depends on the layers-the inner layer is shorter then the outer layer so...it can take awhile to brush to smoothness.
I try to do some grooming management every day, and have help weekly for the more intense brushing. Thankfully, Newt only needs to be paid in tail cuddles.
no subject
That's the thing that sucks about turning into random things, huh? Finding different routines to deal with all the stupid things we suddenly have.
[He's relieved Justine knew some warming runes for his scarf, or Caren would have been out a music partner due to the cold.]
You seem to do a good job, though. Sounds like this Newt guy is a big help. Is he a boyfriend?
no subject
It's a pain. And it's annoying but- I suppose we could be worse off.
[She can keep her warming rocks for her garden, not for herself. She'd hate feeling sluggish.]
My...boyfriend?
[She barks in laughter once.]
He's just someone who loves animals. A...magical zoologist I believe it's called?
No one would want to be my boyfriend. I'm a pain to deal with.
no subject
Well, you're hardly an animal. Maybe magical, and I guess some of that would apply, but...
[He catches onto the rest of her statement and scowls.]
Hey! Don't say that about yourself! You've been nothing but nice to me so I don't see how you're that much of a pain. Plus, everyone has different tastes to account for.
no subject
I have animal parts Rich. He does know how to take care of grooming and such better then I do.
[She offers him a smile-but it doesn't reach her eyes as she pats him on the shoulder.]
You don't know me yet. And I am always in a good mood when there's music. You will see.
[Some people might call her sweet and kind still but she still strongly disagrees.]
no subject
Well, yeah, I get that. Was just saying that if he thought you were an animal... that wouldn't be cool.
[He studies her with a suspicious little frown, but decides he can't really argue when they're just getting to know each other. Instead, he walks ahead, giving an impressed little whistle when they enter the auditorium.]
Nice acoustics in here. No wonder you like coming here to practice.
no subject
Oh no, he doesn't. Not in the least. Mind, he's more then an animal person then a people person but...that's not here nor there.
[If only Rich knew what Newt has been through because of her. Poor man ended up squirming more then once because she was being a little gremlin. But anyway, back to the music, the important part.]
It is the best place to play music in the city- maybe the only place to. It does have a nice array of instruments.
[She paused.]
At least instruments aren't banned in the city, like plays are.
no subject
Don't need the instruments, but at least they've got some to offer here. I'm glad we can play, at least. Though I have a friend that'd have a meltdown about the plays being banned, and I wouldn't blame her. What's the problem with them?
no subject
[There we go, a bit of humor! Though at that...she made a noise.]
Oh, that. I heard someone exploded from watching a play. A witch. So they decided to ban them so there wouldn't be another incident. Something about the play was so moving that...well.
They went to pieces over it.
no subject
[He pauses to listen to her story, which... definitely changes the mood. Even her joke about it doesn't do much to ease his worry.]
Holy shit! That's a normal thing? I thought they could just blow up when they had too much magic, but now they might if they get too emotional?
[Oh god, Jeremy is absolutely doomed...]
no subject
[But...she shrugs, making a noise.]
Maybe? But if that was true, there would be a lot more explosions in town. I'm not sure how true it is.
no subject
[Maybe he should just focus on setting up. There's a chair already by the organ, but Rich grabs one of his own to pull up near it, placing his guitar case down on the ground.]
no subject
[She shook her head, but she was smiling a bit. Just because-people could be so funny some times. But seeing the organ, she sits, carefully, positioning her wings and her tail just so she could play comfortably.]
It's been awhile, so do you mind if I warm up a little? We can keep speaking of course, just- my hands will be busy.
no subject
[He lifts up his own guitar, strumming and tuning intermittently.]
How long have you been playing, if you don't mind me asking?
no subject
[She read up on the matter. But as she starts to go through the keys, soft organ music starts to play.]
How long...?
[She frowns. It takes her a moment or two to consider.]
Ten? I might have been ten. Maybe eight. But around then so...nine years or so.
no subject
[He smiles gently, reassuringly, as she mentions how long she's been playing.]
Always best to pick up an instrument as a kid. My mom started teaching me when I was like six. Picked up the rest online.
no subject
[She hums gently. Though the rest...well, she tilted her head.]
They have music online? I know it posts information, but I thought it was more...around the level of the Watches we use?
no subject
[Rich holds up one end of it as he explains.]
It's definitely helping to make sure I can still go out during this weather, but I should check on getting a couple heated rocks.
Oh, yeah! Lots of sheet music and tutorials and stuff. I mean, you can find just about everything on the internet. Unless it's like something really shady and illegal.
