[Open] November Catchall
Who: Mira and OPEN
When: All of November
Where: Coven, Shopping District, Sly Seadog, Anywhere in the city
What: It's a catchall for November
Warnings: Potential Shadowbringers Spoilers depending on the thread. Just let me know if you're down for it just in case.
Hit Them Books! (Coven: All Month)
[Who knew the lady who casually carries a large broadsword is also a huge book nerd? Well, that's Mira as she can be seen not only in the mandatory classes but also during independent study time. She can be seen anywhere practicing up to three particular styles:
Alchemy will have her nose stuck in a book as well as have many different ingredients stacked up neatly as she slowly follows the recipe in the tome...but there are some moments where the potion blows up in smoke. Quite literally in her face. But she'll be practicing her array drawing as well. Can't promise it won't be a mess.
Evocation will have her try and focus on an element she is unfamiliar with: considering she mainly dealt with anything involving Darkness, perhaps dealing with something involving Light would suffice as a first go. Maybe a ball to start. Unlike her foray into alchemy, there is no explosions or smoke but she is having a bit of a difficult time trying to make the ball the right size, usually too small.
Divination will have her also hitting the books too. Like a lot of them. Anything involving scrying and the kind of tools needed to reading all any meanings to what dreams hold. This last one will be the most confusing for her and someone may hear her be confused at the interpretation of the most mundane things such as apples. Really? There's a meaning behind those?]
Tailor Troubles (Shopping District: Days leading to Masquerade)
[Oh Mira has seen the fliers make the rounds, speaking about a masked party for the city. But that seems to be for the highborn members of society back in Ishgard and Ul'dah, not meant for people like her. She'll just continue to work on her studies until a tailor spots her looking at one of the papers and tries to get her to come into their store for a fitting. Politely, Mira shakes her head and tells him "No thank you." before going on her way.
Then another one finds her and tries to get her to come into her store. And again, Mira declines politely. But when those two become more frequent in their questioning, it begins to get on her nerves.]
What cannot you not understand of 'no'?! I am not interested so please step aside and let me pass!
[Not even the words of how she should show off how pretty she is and to not hide herself can soothe her. The one time she does not have Shadowbringer on her back is the time she gets hounded by merchants. No, she doesn't care about free publicity, she wants to go back home and get back to studying! Where was Tala when you need her?
Someone help?]
Did Anyone Ask For a Yeet? (The Sly Seadog: Whenever)
[Some people may believe reading books in a rowdy bar is just asking for trouble but for Mira, it's rather soothing. Call it white noise or something like it because all she is doing is enjoying that little book of how her world's dark knights came to be for the millionth time. She can't recall how the brawl began but it didn't bother her, even lifting up her arms or tucking her legs into her chair as someone decided to throw some sort of object across her viewpoint. But still, Mira kept her nose in her book until a stranger let their fingers grip the top of the tome to which she replied with a flick of her fingers.]
Find something else to use in your fight. If you touch this book again however, I will have to give you a lesson in manners.
[She doesn't look up from her book but the man ends up letting out a gawf of a laugh.]
A pretty thing like you? Doubt it, sweetie!
[He was stupid to not notice Shadowbringer resting on the wall beside her but that's his downfall as Mira shuts her book and gives the man the flattest look possible.]
I'm sorry but you are not my mother and have no right to refer to me as such.
Or what? Gonna give me a little love tap?
[And that's when Mira gives him a smirk because oh boy did he fuck with the wrong warrior...
If someone is inside and watching it happen, they will see Mira reach for her greatsword and use it like a baseball bat, smacking the man hard enough to get him flying out the door. However, if they are just preparing to go in, they may wanna dodge the guy first.]
Bloody hells, I come to relax and some sodding bugger decides to try that. Hope he learned his lesson.
[Yeet.]

Tailor troubles
She listens for a moment from several feet away as the two women harass the poor girl, before walking over and grabbing one of the older ladies by the arm, giving her a gentle tug back.]
Are they bothering you?
[She's sure that Mira could have taken care of it just fine on her own, but what she would have given to have someone get her out of this dress hell faster when she was in that position.]
no subject
I swear the term no does not exist when it comes to business. I've seen merchants in Ul'dah exercise restraint more.
[Her tone is clipped and she glares at the two others with them, making them move a bit further back. Probably not the best idea to go after two annoyed women.]
My thanks for the assist. I had believed a simple word was all that is needed to get my point across.
no subject
[It's no issue for Lightning. She doesn't mind putting salespeople in their place, especially the pushier ones. Hopefully these ladies aren't as bad as the goblins she had a run-in with during her first week here... though humans can be just as stubborn and are definitely smarter.
She turns her attention to one of the ladies – the much shorter one – and takes a step forward.]
This one tried to lock me in her shop. Wasn't gonna let me leave until I tried one of her dresses on.
no subject
[Mira then steps beside the stranger, looking absolutely disgusted at how low someone could go for business.]
If the pushiness of how you conduct yourselves was not a reason, how in the seven hells can I believe your product is even good?! Does that not seem suspicious to you at all?!
[Not simply free publicity but there's an underlining 'something is wrong' and both women gulp at the thought.]
no subject
[And the service was even worse. Who would've thought?]
Not sure what the big deal is with this party, but I doubt it's worth this much trouble just to find an outfit.
[The women gulp again, and one begins to silently step away, like she's hoping that neither of them will notice. She freezes on the spot when Lightning's icy stare lands on her.]
Should we let them leave?
no subject
[Probably a bunch of rich people talking about how much they 'contributed to society'. But she stares at the women who look like they're about to wet themselves and taps her chin in thought. So what would her merchant friend do in this sort of situation...or potential customer?]
I am sure they will have plenty of time to rethink how they advertise. After all, no one will truly need their services if some were to hear about how desperate they are that they would consider putting a paying customer's life in danger. And word of mouth is the best way to make an impression...but I doubt this is the kind of attention they seek, no?
[When all else fails, hit them where it really hurts: the coinpurse. They're fine to go but oh boy will karma bite them.]
no subject
With a nod of her head, Lightning dismisses them and they all scurry off together in the opposite direction in a clump. She's pretty sure she hears something like a threat, or that the two of them will regret it if they talk, but she'll let them have that for now.
That's when she runs a hand through her hair, breathing a heavy sigh.]
Yeah. They're not gonna be getting off that easy.
[She had been afraid that when she approached, both of them would be roped into something, so it's a good thing they would much rather run than attempt their sales pitches again.]
It looked like you had it under control, but figured I'd help anyway. You alright?
no subject
[Look, she's not afraid to punch someone in the face if it comes to it. Mira would prefer to not hit someone who more than likely cannot fight but Halone help her.]
But you have my thanks for stepping in. I will be alright and hopefully you will not be forced into another issue like the one you have spoken of to me.
no subject
[Honestly, Lightning wouldn't have minded much if Mira threw a fist in their faces. If someone does something to deserve it, then by all means, let 'em have it.
She recalls the memory of that day with a laugh, when the one dressmaker had tried to lock her in the store and rolls her shoulders in a nonchalant shrug.]
It was a pathetic attempt anyway. She thought locking the door would work and folded when I told her I would burn every dress she put in my face. Surprised she's still trying to get people.
no subject
Some people need the lesson driven further home and nothing is worse than bad publicity.
[What's a little threatening their livelihood between client and business, hmm?]
Oh, it would be wise to give you my name at least for the assistance. I'm Mira.
no subject
[Her smile is genuine, if not a little crooked. The sudden need for introductions rather than talks about punching someone in the face switches some of that awkwardness back on. Her hand extends for a handshake, because that's all she knows to do in these kinds of situations.]
Do those sorts of things happen a lot around here?
no subject
It is nice to meet you, Lightning. I however cannot say for this city considering I have only been here a moon but hopefully they are in a minority. Most merchants I have run into do have some code to uphold.
no subject
[The realization dawns on her quickly.]
You're newer here, too.
[Well, that makes her feel a little better about all of this, at least. Not in the fact that they had both suffered at the hands of some very aggressive dressmakers, but because neither of them was alone in that. It's a weird place to find some comfort in a very unfamiliar world, but it's something.]
no subject
[Look, sometimes it takes some crazy tailors to start a conversation. And perhaps meet decent people in the process.]
no subject
Decently...
[Lightning scoffs a laugh out loud.]
Been a little rough. The Welcome Committee's got some work to do if they think we want all sorts of new limbs our first go here.
no subject
You speak of the mist that happened nary a week upon arrival then? Aye, that was a right mess and the aftermath of it seemed to make the locals scorn in our direction.
[Being chased sucked.]
no subject
The locals are giving you trouble?
[Besides the obvious dress mishaps, Lightning hasn't run into a whole lot of issues, but if they're misdirecting their frustrations on her fellow Mirrorbound, she's got some things to say about it.]
no subject
[Said with a reassuring smile. Can she say that she used the blunt sides of her sword as an impromptu battering ram when folks tried to chase her from her front?]
no subject
Granted, she thinks that maybe they should be able to see from their side, too – if a whole bunch of strangers suddenly showed up in Bodhum, she'd be lying if she said they wouldn't be suspicious of them, either. PSICOM might even get involved... But this isn't Cocoon.]
I'd almost think they assume we're all asking to be here. Not like I got a job to do back home or anything.
no subject
[Sure Mira has a job to do but last as she recalls, she fell asleep exhausted from it. Some of us were resting, damn otherwordly powers!]
no subject
[When she puts it that way... although Lightning has spent most of her time here being a complete sourpuss about it than anything else. It's been some very productive sourpussing, though. As for everything else about her life here, it hasn't turned out as well as she hoped it would.]
Haven't had much luck on my end. Been trying to find a job that interests me.
[She gives Mira a look then, wondering if she's found anything, being just as much a newbie as she is.]
