[closed] a proposal

Who: Osamu Dazai ([personal profile] proficience) and Sakunosuke Oda ([personal profile] notawriter)
When: Soon after Oda returns from Dorchacht
Where: The city and then The Bungo House, for starters
What: Dazai has a very, very important question to ask his closest friend.
Warnings: NSFW - smut is pretty much guaranteed at some point.

[The entire month of Septeril was, by far, the longest month Dazai has had to endure in a long, long time. The first half had him travel to Dorchacht, where he did receive information from Oda through certain signals, though nothing spoken. The risk of being caught outweighed the desire to speak with his friend, so it was almost as if they hadn't even crossed paths in that city. The second half of the month consisted of Dazai trying desperately to earn enough money to buy what he'd needed for today.

Needless to say, Dazai was slightly worried the month wouldn't end, as each day seemed to linger far longer than it should have, but it thankfully has. Even though he himself has undergone a myriad of changes recently, one of which essentially bars him from going outside during the day, he's chosen to brave the perils of the sun to reunite with the man he loves, the man he honestly wants to spend the rest of his days here with.

With a small box tucked under his trench coat that contains a ring of a simple design, as well as an equally simple silver chain, Dazai heads out of his house as soon as dawn breaks, his hand wrapped around the handle of a large, heavy umbrella. He's hoping that it's enough to block those harmful rays that the sun is hoping to pierce his skin with, but if not -- he'll have to improvise, somehow.

He's not focused on himself, really. Even if his skin is smoking and incredibly hot to the touch, he doesn't care. All he wants is to ask a question that's been lingering on the back of his mind for weeks, now; this question means the world to him, and he has absolutely no regrets about spending every cent he'd earned recently on the ring and chain. The fleeting dream to own a coffin before was just that, a dream. A dream that he has no interest in pursuing again.

He'd heard of where the meeting point would be, where the espionage team is returning to, so with that umbrella still in a death-grip of sorts in his pale, slender hand, he'll sit on the nearest bench and wait. Assuming that Oda looks slightly different now than he had a month ago, Dazai's crimson eyes are on the lookout for larger horns atop that familiar almost maroon shaded hair of his.

It takes a while, and Dazai is beginning to feel lightheaded from the sun, but he spots him. There's no doubt in his mind that the man walking toward him is, indeed, Oda. Considering his heightened emotions, it may not come to anyone's surprise that he senses his eyes begin to water when he sees him, but he'll use his free hand to quickly wipe anything that has formed away before speaking.]

Odasaku! [His voice is weak, but still loud enough to be heard.] Welcome back.

[When Oda and Dazai broke their bond, a void opened beside Oda's heart. Although they'd separated on the best possible terms possible and remained closer than friends, Oda's heartbeat echoed in that hollow, and its emptiness gradually grew over time.

In Dorchacht, the dignitary groups remained under close scrutiny. While some managed contact with those in the unsanctioned mirrorbound group, Oda chose not to seek Dazai in person because they shouldn't compromise each other's positions. But it was surprisingly difficult to bear with all that was happening in the black city. Hearing about the investigations into 'the door'—is Dazai involved? Every time a small riot erupted as the Resistance began to move—is Dazai there, does he need backup? Without the assurance of their bond, Oda found himself constantly worried for his treasure, his new raison d'etre.

Even after midmonth, when Dazai had already returned to Aefenglom, Oda continued to make signals and leave secret messages for Dazai. He'd never receive them, of course, but pretending he was still near proved a source of comfort for the burdensome longing building in Oda's chest, the ache that threatened to consume him.

So even though the return to Aefenglom seems just as explosive as the unsanctioned group's arrival in Dorchacht—again, it's a miracle no one dies or is seriously injured when the vessel bursts into pieces after warping—Oda hurriedly plucks himself from the scattered remnants and scans the perimeter for him.

A weak voice calls out that familiar nickname, and Oda turns to see his beautiful treasure slowly burning beneath an umbrella. He moves toward that figure, with slight difficulty at first from the shock of arriving but soon picking up his pace.
]

Dazai! [He calls out with urgency in his voice. Not because of any oncoming threat or danger to either of them but rather because they've been too far away, unbonded, for all too long.

Upon reaching Dazai, Oda protectively wraps his arms around the other man and pulls him into a tight embrace. (Though Oda is also careful not to displace the umbrella in the process.) His voice is somewhat muffled as he speaks into Dazai's shoulder-neck area.
] Dazai, I'm home. I'm alive.

And I want to bond with you. As soon as possible.

[If Dazai wanted to ask right then and there, he would have. So there must be a reason he wants to go elsewhere. But as things are, Dazai can no longer stand the sunlight. Concerned for Dazai's wellbeing and comfort, Oda doesn't question Dazai's decision to change locations.]

Sure.

[He's still holding on and doesn't want to let go, especially considering the lingering threat of the sun's rays.]

How do you want to do this? Should I carry you as usual? Can you take cover under a heavy cloak or blanket?

[Tired as he is from warping back to Aefenglom, Oda will go to great lengths to protect his treasure.]

[Grunting with a quick and smooth motion, Oda manages to pick Dazai up in a way where he can still hold his umbrella over them. Then Oda tries his best to move while keeping Dazai out of the sun—the umbrella may be large, but Dazai would normally be standing beneath it rather than be carried off.]

The beach, huh? Alright.

[Oda once carried Dazai home from the halfway point between home and their workplace, and since Oda knows where the beach is from here, it shouldn't take too long for them to reach that place.

As he gets moving,
] Isn't it dangerous for you to be out here like this? It looks like you've become more sensitive to the sun since I last saw you...
