Waver shakes his head, lips thoughtfully pursed. He reaches out to touch the page lightly, gentle with his claws, and flip it.
"No old history books. Nothing. Not in the Coven library either, so far as I could tell -- and I've heard the same from a couple of others I've spoken with too. They're not even trying to hide it. It's just that the people here don't care... on the surface, anyway. If they even notice. If they're not all just brainwashed in one way or another."
He looks back up at Geralt, claw lightly tapping the page.
"Perhaps we can repurpose some sort of... transmutation or alchemical spell. Or rather, the beginnings of one. Not to transform it into anything else, but to analyze the paper and binding, see if a magical deep-dive of sorts can help pinpoint its age."
He sort of just... brushes past Geralt's offer to try it himself. Something like this will require more experience and finesse if they want to keep the book intact, and Waver's not entirely confident in Geralt's proficiency in such things. No offense, bud.
"Maybe I can ask Caster..."
In all honesty, he's not sure what pinpointing the age of the book would even mean for the overall state of the city. It's not like they can convince the population to change their ways simply because some old book implies sappy Bonds used to be a thing. But it is curious.
"I wonder where this even came from, originally. The Witch downstairs have anything useful to share?"
