[It's not the same sort of thing at all, but sadly Konoe is terrible at accepting compliments at the best of times, and his tail in particular is a weak point, in more ways than one. Part of him just wants to move on to another topic; part of him is frustrated that he feels that way, because running away from the topic only makes it more obvious that he thinks there's something to run away from. He doesn't want to admit his own weakness that way. It would be better to own his shortcomings.
So that's what he tries, rather weakly: he takes a breath and steadies his expression into something stern, as if that will somehow show how much he doesn't care.
