That's a possibility. Most of the monsters in my own world seem to operate on instinct, but… there are other races much like the Monsters here. There used to be trade with some of them, and a friend's spoken to me of some groups willing to speak to them. Negotiating with them would be an ideal to work towards- though I couldn't say whether it would work with all of them.
