[Open] I was a heavy heart to carry
Who: Newt Scamander(
newtralize) and You!
When: Throughout the month of August
Where: Various Locations
What: Quests, Magic, Canon Update, and a heavy dose of sad.
Warnings: Canon Update to end of CoG and will include mentions/talk of death.
I. Arwel's Favors
[One of the upside of having his niffler was for the array of items that the small creature brought back to the house to outfit the new burrow it was making for itself. Of course, a lot of these items weren't well suited for the creature's burrow and eventually abandoned. Either way, there were an assortment of items that he could drop off. Scales and baubles and bells collected from Harry, who isn't too pleased to have some of his treasures taken.
Newt leaves the establishment with the scarf tucked around his neck before taking a walk around the town, not aware of the effects the scarf might have.]
II. Lunasa Ceremonies
[Newt was fond of dancing, but he was far less willing to dance this time around after his rather mortifying display before with the love potions and all.
He had only meant to watch the merriment (he enjoys people watching), but he finds himself suddenly being dragged into the middle and pushed into another person.] Ah wait- [Too late. It seems you're stuck dancing with the man who awkwardly is staring down at your feet and not your face.] I, oh Merlin, I'm quite sorry. I-
[At least he isn't drunk on some potion this time, but this is really not his element.]
III. Lunasa Catwalk
Oh, absolutely not. No.
[He'll dance with strangers and get pulled into their ceremonies. What he isn't going to do? Be a model for someone and walk some catwalk where everyone can stare at him. That is possibly...the last thing he would ever do willingly. Which is to say, it seems like he isn't getting much of a choice. The young fashion designers are just shoving clothes into his arms to change into.]
I- No- I didn't sign up for this.
[Help...]
IV. Mirror, Mirror (August 10th)
[It's early morning when he finds himself pulled towards the Looking-Glass House. He never had a strong care of going to it. Even with new people arriving, he wandered to the Coven moreso than the place filled with mirrors.
Yet, he found himself drawn to it and wanders into the same room where he had found himself arriving months ago. He places a hand on the mirror he had walked through out of; curious as to why he felt pulled towards it. It happens in a flash that he almost wouldn't have believed what had shown in the mirror. He would, if it didn't weigh so heavy on him immediately.
The return to England to Paris to Hogwarts.
He backs away from the mirror as though it had burned him. He felt lightheaded. Breathless. Newt stares at the mirror before looking at the room before looking back at the mirror.
Eventually he leaves though and wanders through the town listlessly for a bit. Newt can be found throughout the city. His usual haunts, but there's a certain sluggishness in his step. A faraway look in his gaze as though he's not really focusing ahead of him and completely lost in a turmoil of thoughts.]
V. Pile's Plea (August 10th and beyond)
[Note: Newt is canon updated at this point]
[The loose pygmy jacks are a good distraction for Newt. He's a common face at Pile's Petagorium, unsurprising no one.
He's got an armful of the small creatures as he's running down a street following another one of the small rabbit-like beasts. Chasing slippery little creatures is somewhat of a normalcy for Newt. He had chased after his niffler countless times that chasing these little guys is almost refreshing. Though, the quantity of them is probably the most tiring part. With the nifflers, he had only five at most to chase after. With the pygmy jacks, he isn't sure if it'll ever end.]
Oh, come on now. [Weaving through people with furry animals in tow is also a little troublesome.] They weren't kidding when they said they weren't familiar with the city. I think I've found them in every corner of the city. [The ones already in Newt's possession look up at Newt innocently enough.]
VI. Wilde Quests
A
[He lets out a bit of a yawn before rubbing his eyes. Surveillance wasn't usually an issue for him. He had done plenty enough stakeouts in the past, but sleep had been fairly difficult as of late.
There was action here and there, which was enough for him to keep going, but enough downtime that it let him to his thoughts too long. He held his wand loosely in his right hand as he watched the witches work on their teleportation spells before glancing around him.
While Newt was usually a quiet man, he seemed quieter than usual.]
B
[Supply runs was better to keep him busy and being quiet, quick and undetectable was definitely a skill Newt had honed over his travels.] This way.
[He speaks in a hushed, quiet tone as he gestures his partner to follow him. He's equipped well enough to fight if they had to fight, but Newt would prefer getting through this without any fighting. He really had enough fighting for a little while.]
VII. Wildcard
[If none of these work, feel free to PM me or message me via plurk
rakuranger. Drop me a separate starter or I'm more than happy to write a starter that works for you!]

[Kissing strangers and ignoring all personal space.
It would be easy to flirt and fluster the poor man if she ever felt like teasing someone.]
I certainly learned not to take drinks from the folks here during this time of year. [Maybe not quite what she meant. But talking about these things isn't going to get them out of their current situation, is it?]
no subject
[She might just flirt and fluster him to a mess later. But she needs him alert and ready to run, not ready to die.]
But-mmm. Let's talk about that later. Think we can free ourselves with a quick dance, or a slow one?
[One would be a whirlwind, the other far more subtle.]
no subject
While, I'm fond of some quicker dances like Lindy hop and foxtrot, I believe a waltz would be most suitable. If we're trying to get by undetected, it would be best to dance what others are. [Blend in with the rest.]
Waltzing, thankfully, seems to be a somewhat universal dance it seems.
no subject
[She offered him a small grin.]
Let's see if we can waltz right out of here then?
no subject
[She must have better things to do than to humour some awkward sod who got dragged into this mess just like her.]
Yes. Right. The sooner we're out of here, the better. [Which isn't anything against her. Just that, he's rather tired of all these social events. He grasps one of her hands in his own and places the other firmly on her hip.]
no subject
[She's pleasant at least for all that they both got dragged into this mess. But she doesn't press; instead, she placed one hand on his shoulder, and squeezed his hand.]
Your lead, 'less you want me to.
no subject
Whichever you're more comfortable with. It's usually assumed that the man leads. [Which is to say, Newt is used to leading, but he doesn't seem to mind if she would prefer. A rather open mind for someone from the 1920s.]
no subject
[He is a rather open minded boy. She's thankful for that much. So she'll be honest with him, without being too dreadfully so.]
But I believe in your ability. Lead on sir.
no subject
[His lack of confidence falls more in just interacting with people. People are...scary okay.
But once they're in position, he easily starts guiding her around the dance floor. His movements are surprisingly smooth for someone who seemed a bit awkward.]
no subject
[That's fair. Sokie can be a scary people.
But right now she's doing a fair job of following his lead. He might be an awkward duckling socially, but he's not so bad on the dance floor.]
Nicely done. I know a few people who are all talk when it comes to dancing.
no subject
I'm not very great at lying, honestly speaking. I really have nothing to gain by talking up a skill I might not have to a stranger, besides.
[He almost missteps for a moment when he realizes-] Oh, I've been dreadfully rude. I haven't even introduced myself. Newt Scamander.
no subject
[Thankfully she's quick in drawing her foot back. No stepping on for her!]
I've been just as rude. Sokie Undertown, at your service.
no subject
He twirls her before returning his hand back to her hip.]
I hope we can meet again in less awkward circumstances next time. [Though, he might be less inclined to interact with others if he isn't forced into the interaction in the first place.
no subject
[She twirls under his guidance, before settling her hand back on his shoulder.]
We could ensure the next set of circumstances are less awkward if we wish. We could just talk and enjoy each others company.
Over tea perhaps?
no subject
[He can appreciate those that are confident without overdoing it.
His mouth quirks into a small smile.]
I'd enjoy that. A nice cup of tea and company. It sounds pleasant.
no subject
[She offers him a quick wink. Ah that little smile...cute.]
And I think a pleasant afternoon with pleasant company would do us both good.
But no rush. I'm still settling, and I'm sure you have your obligations too.
no subject
Just arrived then? I've been here for a bit now. I was part of the first group.
no subject
Mm, that's right. And if you've been here since the start-you've must have seen a lot of things then.
no subject
At the very least, the crowd seems to be thinning. Mostly, people seemed to be getting tired and retiring off the dance floor. They would probably be safe to do so too.]
It's mostly been acclimating. I think it wasn't so bad for me though. Magic had always been a part of my life and the worst part for me is just relearning the magic here since I was stripped of my own.
Most of what I've seen is the struggles others have with their changes.
I can't help but feel sympathetic to how painful some of it seems to be.
no subject
But right now, she pointed her chin to the exit- they could start dancing towards it, and to freedom.]
Magic has been part of mine too. It feels different from what I know.
But...I didn't realize they didn't have pain management for the changes. Scale of one to ten, how bad does it get?
no subject
I feel the same way similarly. It's a little jarring. Like a bit of me is gone. [The magic just wasn't quite the same and while he can certainly get used to it, there's that feeling of something missing that lingers.]
Ten might be a little too kind to some of what can happen. Entire bone structures amongst other things happen, so I can only guess. Though, I've known what it's like to regrow bones.
[They'll slowly make their way to the exit.]
no subject
I feel that too. Like I've been diminished-that my life that I knew it was taken from me.
[Her voice is very mild but. Well. There's a reason why she is always angry, in a very low key sort of way.
No she is not the Hulk.]Thankfully, I'm not in the completely regrow bone catagory. Just broken.
[She hums though, lost in thought as they venture slowly towards freedom.]
...Hey, Newt. You think we could see about making something that could help during full moon nights?
no subject
He pauses when he feels like they're at the edge of what was all the dancing. The crowd has thinned and it doesn't seem like people are paying much mind to them at this point.]
I don't see why not. I can't say that it'll be something that will happen anytime soon. I'm still learning the flora and fauna of this place and the different properties they have. That being said, I don't think it isn't impossible. I wouldn't be opposed to it either. The transformations with the full moons. They can be rather rough.
no subject
[She's used to being independent. But feeling him pause, she notices where they are-and how close they are to getting free out of it.
She made a soft noise.]
Then you know what? We'll talk about it, via the watch if we don't have the time to see each other in person.
[She'll take his hand and kiss it, if he doesn't pull away in time.]
I think we can escape now, if you're up for it.
