[Open] I was a heavy heart to carry
Who: Newt Scamander(
newtralize) and You!
When: Throughout the month of August
Where: Various Locations
What: Quests, Magic, Canon Update, and a heavy dose of sad.
Warnings: Canon Update to end of CoG and will include mentions/talk of death.
I. Arwel's Favors
[One of the upside of having his niffler was for the array of items that the small creature brought back to the house to outfit the new burrow it was making for itself. Of course, a lot of these items weren't well suited for the creature's burrow and eventually abandoned. Either way, there were an assortment of items that he could drop off. Scales and baubles and bells collected from Harry, who isn't too pleased to have some of his treasures taken.
Newt leaves the establishment with the scarf tucked around his neck before taking a walk around the town, not aware of the effects the scarf might have.]
II. Lunasa Ceremonies
[Newt was fond of dancing, but he was far less willing to dance this time around after his rather mortifying display before with the love potions and all.
He had only meant to watch the merriment (he enjoys people watching), but he finds himself suddenly being dragged into the middle and pushed into another person.] Ah wait- [Too late. It seems you're stuck dancing with the man who awkwardly is staring down at your feet and not your face.] I, oh Merlin, I'm quite sorry. I-
[At least he isn't drunk on some potion this time, but this is really not his element.]
III. Lunasa Catwalk
Oh, absolutely not. No.
[He'll dance with strangers and get pulled into their ceremonies. What he isn't going to do? Be a model for someone and walk some catwalk where everyone can stare at him. That is possibly...the last thing he would ever do willingly. Which is to say, it seems like he isn't getting much of a choice. The young fashion designers are just shoving clothes into his arms to change into.]
I- No- I didn't sign up for this.
[Help...]
IV. Mirror, Mirror (August 10th)
[It's early morning when he finds himself pulled towards the Looking-Glass House. He never had a strong care of going to it. Even with new people arriving, he wandered to the Coven moreso than the place filled with mirrors.
Yet, he found himself drawn to it and wanders into the same room where he had found himself arriving months ago. He places a hand on the mirror he had walked through out of; curious as to why he felt pulled towards it. It happens in a flash that he almost wouldn't have believed what had shown in the mirror. He would, if it didn't weigh so heavy on him immediately.
The return to England to Paris to Hogwarts.
He backs away from the mirror as though it had burned him. He felt lightheaded. Breathless. Newt stares at the mirror before looking at the room before looking back at the mirror.
Eventually he leaves though and wanders through the town listlessly for a bit. Newt can be found throughout the city. His usual haunts, but there's a certain sluggishness in his step. A faraway look in his gaze as though he's not really focusing ahead of him and completely lost in a turmoil of thoughts.]
V. Pile's Plea (August 10th and beyond)
[Note: Newt is canon updated at this point]
[The loose pygmy jacks are a good distraction for Newt. He's a common face at Pile's Petagorium, unsurprising no one.
He's got an armful of the small creatures as he's running down a street following another one of the small rabbit-like beasts. Chasing slippery little creatures is somewhat of a normalcy for Newt. He had chased after his niffler countless times that chasing these little guys is almost refreshing. Though, the quantity of them is probably the most tiring part. With the nifflers, he had only five at most to chase after. With the pygmy jacks, he isn't sure if it'll ever end.]
Oh, come on now. [Weaving through people with furry animals in tow is also a little troublesome.] They weren't kidding when they said they weren't familiar with the city. I think I've found them in every corner of the city. [The ones already in Newt's possession look up at Newt innocently enough.]
VI. Wilde Quests
A
[He lets out a bit of a yawn before rubbing his eyes. Surveillance wasn't usually an issue for him. He had done plenty enough stakeouts in the past, but sleep had been fairly difficult as of late.
There was action here and there, which was enough for him to keep going, but enough downtime that it let him to his thoughts too long. He held his wand loosely in his right hand as he watched the witches work on their teleportation spells before glancing around him.
While Newt was usually a quiet man, he seemed quieter than usual.]
B
[Supply runs was better to keep him busy and being quiet, quick and undetectable was definitely a skill Newt had honed over his travels.] This way.
[He speaks in a hushed, quiet tone as he gestures his partner to follow him. He's equipped well enough to fight if they had to fight, but Newt would prefer getting through this without any fighting. He really had enough fighting for a little while.]
VII. Wildcard
[If none of these work, feel free to PM me or message me via plurk
rakuranger. Drop me a separate starter or I'm more than happy to write a starter that works for you!]

I would appreciate that honestly. [He smiles a little and pats Toothless' snout.] Not just them. I got injured recently on a quest. [Which, surprisingly, has nothing to do with his mental state. That's another can of worms completely.] It's making running around the city a lot more work than I want to admit.
no subject
Toothless lets out a happy little rumble, flashing pink gums, nosing into Newt's hand for a moment before he takes off. Taking that as permission, apparently. Hiccup, though, looks worried when Newt mentions he was injured.]
How'd you get hurt? How bad is it?
no subject
Oh, uh. I'm not actually quite sure? The hit itself knocked me out, but I can never gauge how serious things are. My brother has a bit of a dramatic flair to him at times. I think he was quite upset because I had taken the hit for him. [He wasn't sure, but he's still kind of feeling it now.
One would think he'd take that as an indication to rest more though.] I'm not bedridden though.

Wilder's request. We had to kill some infected creatures. Luckily, it seems that despite being stripped of our original magic, we kept some particulars. I've found that average people are much more fragile in physiology than wizards. I'm happy to say that my physiology still is intact. [A fancy way of saying that Theseus and Newt can weather stupid decisions easier.]
no subject
[Toothless comes trotting back, utterly pleased with himself, and opens his mouth (teeth sheathed) to drop a spit-covered, indignant, sticky-but-blessedly-unharmed pygmy jack at Newt's feet.]
Oh- Toothless, gross.
no subject
We're sturdier than average, but I guess that makes more sense since average injuries are more extreme for us to. I suppose our healing is faster too though, but most injuries don't get left to heal normally. We have potions and herbs that increase the rate of healing.
[Newt looks at the poor little creature.] Oh...Perhaps we should join Toothless in finding them. Not that I don't appreciate your help, Toothless, but I think you might just traumatize them if you...put them in your mouth. [The pygmy jacks don't know Toothless isn't gonna swallow them. They're just going to assume a big predator is eating them.]
no subject
[Hiccup stifles a little laugh, rubbing the sides of Toothless' face and leaning down to touch his forehead to the dragon's.] Good effort, bud, but you should stick to search and let us do the rescue. [Toothless grins a big gummy grin, bumping Hiccup, then Newt with his nose. He brought your weird rodent thing!! He did good!!
Aside to Newt, still trying not to smile,] Honestly this is why we had to make dragon costumes for the sheep. They're still terrified of the dragons.
no subject
[Newt grimaces a bit. At the very least, he can just use a bit of magic to dry the poor thing up. The little guy is definitely shaking though as Newt magics away the saliva and picks the pygmy jack up.] Thank you Toothless.
I mean, you can't really blame prey to be scared of their predators. Enough of that, let's get these guys back to the shelter though. I'm running out of hands and arms to carry them all.
no subject
[Toothless finally looks pleased at the thank you, purring with self-satisfaction, and Hiccup laughs softly, patting his scaly head.] No, I don't blame them. Sometimes dragons can be... a little too enthusiastic. [Hiccup never really forgets that Toothless is, ultimately, a predator, but he knows his dragon, knows his intentions are usually good.]
Sure, we'll head back with you. And then if there are any more missing, we can go after them and- keep them out of my dragon's mouth this time. Sorry, little guy.
no subject
[The poor creature curls up into Newt's arms.] Well, he found it before something else did. [Because there's things out there that might actually consider these poor guys a meal.]
Yes. Lets. [Newt starts heading back to the petagorium. His pace is slow though.]
no subject
Hiccup notices how slowly he's moving, and wonders if he's hurting from his injury, or if it's something else. After a few blocks, he rests a hand gently on Newt's elbow, looking over at him, concerned.] You sure you're doing okay? You can ride back on Toothless if you're still hurting.
no subject
Yes. I got hit in the back and I don't think I initially realized just how bad the injury might have been. [He doesn't think the pain had initially registered and he didn't quite feel it until he had come too again. By then, he had woken up to a very worried Theseus back in the city.]
It's fine. I'm recovering and I need the exercise so to speak. Physical therapy and all. [Though, he was probably pushing it given that he's been running around the place rounding up all the pygmy jacks he could.
Maybe Hiccup won't call him out on it.
Or realize that Newt most deifnitely is overdoing it.]
no subject
[Toothless lets out a soft rumble, apparently not minding at all. He's pretty fond of the human that his human is fond of.]
It can't hurt to take a break. We'll get you back to the Petagorium.
no subject
I really don't want to inconvenience you more than I already have, besides.
no subject
The dragon barks out a sound like a laugh and nudges his head forward, essentially using it like a shovel to scoop Newt up and slide him onto his back. Hiccup stifles a smile.] It's no inconvenience at all.
no subject
I-I can walk!
no subject
no subject
You're helping me quite enough as is. [One of the pygmy jacks wiggle out of Newt's arms and curiously wanders on Toothless' back and moves to sit atop of Toothless' head.]
no subject
[Toothless just seems pleased with himself though, eyes rolling upward to try and get a glimpse of the pygmy jack on his head. He lets out a rumbling little purr of noise, keeping his head level so the little thing can remain on its perch.]
What else are friends for?
no subject
[The rabbit-like creature sniffs at Toothless curiously before getting on its hind legs to look about them.
Newt's face seems to light up a tad though. Just, the word friends was so foreign to him that there was something so nice to hear it from another.] Yes, I suppose that is what friends do. Help each other. Thank you.
no subject
A laugh, now that he knows he's won.] Right, exactly. So you'll take the ride back to the Petagorium.
[Toothless' answering rumble is delighted. They probably look like quite a sight, a dragon with a pygmy jack on its head carrying a man, with another man walking alongside.]
no subject
I don't think you're giving me much of a choice, really.
[He settles though. He has to. The other pygmy jacks are either settling into his arms or they're trying to clamber all over him.]
no subject
But the point is: yes, they're absolutely teaming up.]
There are a hundred kids in this city that would kill for a dragon ride. He's very popular. Besides, this way you can focus on not letting those little rabbit things run away again.
no subject
They haven't tried to run once I've calmed them down. [It's true. They seem pretty content bundled up with the Brit. Perhaps not so surprising. Newt seemed to have a particular way with creatures of any size and kind.
But Newt can't deny that the ride is helpful. His body is aching somewhat and even he knows (perhaps he knows quite well even) of his limitations.] I think this is all I'll manage today.
