( at first, soren thinks ranulf is grabbing him to roll the two of them over and gain advantage in a tussle, so he braces for that and bears his weight assertively. it quickly becomes obvious that the gesture is much friendlier than that, and to his surprise, he's being hugged. their physical connection enhances the emotional one, and ranulf's bright spirits enliven his. )

( even though he can count the number of times he's been hugged in his life on one hand, he transfers his exertion upon ranulf into a tight reciprocation of sorts. and then, as though finally realizing just how grateful he is to see an old face after twisting and turning through a protracted nightmare, his arms clench around him harder. they're unusually strong for soren, and the full moon only draws this feature out. so much for having wimpy mage arms anymore...
