Well, red eyes is certainly better than the cat like pupils of Sephiroth and his remnants, so he relaxes by a small amount. He's dealt with enough black leather wearing, silver haired nightmares to last him a lifetime or two.
Still, despite being reassured that the boy in front of him has no connection to Sephiroth, Rufus keeps his gun aimed at him, because one doesn't have to be a genetically modified soldier to be responsible for numerous amount of headaches. He can still possibly be a failed experiment of Hojo's, although he seems to have his wits about him. Reassuring, perhaps.
At least the well-dressed man doesn't seem too trigger happy, a measured calm and sophistication to him as he speaks to Near.]
