Steven stops when she grabs him, looking on urgently. He catches sight of the small amount of blood on Lion's shoulder - he's never actually seen him bleed before. He's never been injured like that, as long as he knows him.
(Though he now knows Lion has already died once already.)
"He's hurt," Steven says helplessly, wanting to go forward but comprehending Lex's reasoning. Lion looks confused more than vicious - like he's seeing something they aren't. "Lion - it's okay, it's me. Steven."
Lion looks in their direction, stumbling on his feet. His backside flops down, out of sync with the rest of his body, like he's too exhausted to stand properly. He rumbles at them again, but less energetically this time.
