I don't know anything about your biology, or about your world, so I won't speculate.

[Better to just avoid that possible conflict right now.]

...How is everything with Lorenz? It's not a memory thing, I just worry about him at times.

That's...not quite what I meant. I'm just wondering if he feels okay. I'm not worried about you two getting along, I just worry that he's overworking himself. He had a habit of that, when we were younger. That's all.

Sometimes people don't sleep enough, yes. They just get caught up in things and gain stress and don't take time to rest.

[Overachievers exist.]

Seven to eight hours, usually. I'm mostly asking if he feels tired through your bond.

Oh. Well. Then just keep an eye on him for me, please?

Sometimes, we think that work is more important than sleep. It's one of our many failings.

[So no.]

Just. Take care of him for me?

[She is an ancient and mysterious creature. Surely she can manage one goofy deer.]

Pumpkin is your...pet?

I see.

[She doesn't see, but then Lapis is strange enough.]

Do you have many pets?

Right. I suppose that would be true since they lack brains.

[That explains that!]

It's an organ in humans that allows us the capacity for sapience. Animals have a form of it, but it's different. All theirs does is control basic functions like the instinctual need to eat and sleep and survive.
