Mitsuru June Catch-All Log
Who: Mitsuru and You!
When: All through June
Where: Around the city, particularly Haven, the Harbor, and the Coven
What: Mitsuru runs festival errands, moves into a new place, tries to study magic, and attempts to attend a festival.
Warnings: None here!
1. About Town
A. At the docks
There’s a clattering of hooves on the cobblestones, as a horse drawn carriage pulls up. The back is laden with a mess of flower garlands, and what looks like magitek incendiary devices. As for the front, it’s taken up by one driver… And one young lady doing her best to act as a secretary.
With the way Mitsuru’s eyes dart around, it’s clear she’s out of her element at the docks; she seems a bit surprised she’s even here. But the flower garlands need to be delivered here as well, and accounted for, not to mention a few other items.
“A delivery for the docks. With an emphasis to handle the contents very carefully.” She announces whoever is closest; there has to be someone either in charge, or willing to take charge for this delivery.
B. Breaks
She sets aside a collection of bright wrapped packages, that look like giant sized sugar cubes or confections. The sweet scent from the packages helps with that image… And doesn’t help with Mitsuru’s own willpower.
“Agreeing to this errand might have been a mistake.” Mitsuru says to herself. It’s also tiring work, going from place to place. Her feet don’t seem to like it either, demanding a break. To the point she finally sets the packages aside, and takes a seat on a nearby fountain. She trails her fingers through the waters to help relax, and hopefully focus on something other than the pastries. “…I suppose one can hope there might be some surplus, in the packages.”
2. Moving In
Perhaps it isn’t a surprise that the heiress picks a mansion to live in, out of all the offered buildings. What might be a LITTLE unusual however, is that she opts for one of the more garishly colored buildings. (Which might be a convincing reason for why it’s been passed over, for better dwellings.)
There’s also the fact that a sign, elegantly penned with “Vacancies Available, Please Inquire Within” hangs on both the gate and doors. Inside, Mitsuru can be found doing one of several things:
A. Slip and Slide
Taking inventory of the rooms and attempting to clean.
One is easier than the other. It’s almost relaxing to get a count of available rooms, facilities, and writing them all down. (Along with some curious notes about the easiest spots to get water; if pressed, she couldn’t say why she included that.) Cleaning presents a difficulty… And one she attempts to cheat, with a bit of water magic work. The floors are at least looking very well cleaned, if slightly damp. And slippery. A fact she discovers in a moment, likely skidding into someone close by and dropping her papers in the process.
“…How disgraceful. My apologies.”
B. Lonely Building
Moving in, with her admittedly sparse belongings. She glances around the empty foyer, with just a single suitcase at her feet, frowning at the bare quality of the building. Lovely as the interior is, there’s a clear lack of activity, or indeed a sense of feeling lived in.
“I’ve forgotten how somber an empty building can be… But I’ll get used to it.” She says that mostly to herself, but clearly able to be overheard. “It’s not too intimidating.”
And most assuredly NOT at haunted house levels. She just has to keep reminding herself of that. And hope there might be some others ready to move in.
3. Witch Lessons
Most afternoons see Mitsuru present at the Coven, soaking in the lessons on magic.
It’s been a while since she’s had a chance to feel so challenged… And so frustrated at the same time. But the material being presented is just that. She’s scrawled down exhaustive notes, even written some observations of her own, but when the time comes to test what’s being lectured, there’s precious little in the way of results.
A. Post Lessons
“…Vexing.” She only says one word at the end of a class. Her notes cover multiple pages, but on an intuitive level, she’s not feeling much. It still feels strange, not having Penthesila even stirring in the back of her head in so many years… Though she can still feel some sort of background noise, especially here in the Coven grounds.
Her notes reflect that, trying to capture this magic “white noise” and put it into words. And see if there’s any way she can apply it.
Granted, those notes might benefit someone else, if they want to approach her.
B. Elemental
Evocation has been her one strong suit, though only with one element. And as such, it’s the one she practices the most, trying to apply her notes to it. Such as today, after lessons.
“Flow. I command thee,” she even tries calling the same way she’s summoned her Persona… And she sees some results. The water is more than just a puddle this time, turning into a small stream she can direct over the grass, changing the path and sending it winding around her feet. The patterns she makes are almost serpentine… And have the absolute minimum of splashing people, this time around.
“Better.” She says to herself… And wonders if the stream almost bubbles, in response.
4. Festival
A. Fine Dining
It seems like laced drinks aren’t the only thing one can find. And somehow, Mitsuru has managed to obtain something that looks suspiciously like ice cream. She winces, as she tries to eat the frozen treat. There’s an odd rawness to her gums, making each bite a delicious, but notably uncomfortable experience.
“…Is there a different quality to this world’s ice cream?” She finally asks aloud, after trying it again. She might have to satisfy herself with just licks… Although even that makes her sensitive, eyes narrowing when she tries using her tongue. (And likely makes for an oddly comical sight; eating ice cream is apparently serious business.)
B. Fireworks
It makes for a beautiful sight, no doubt. Watching fireworks reflected on the harbor, and ships cutting about. And on a certain level, Mitsuru DOES appreciate it… But there’s more than a few times, where he attention drifts down to the book and notes she carries with her.
She frowns over those notes, sometimes letting the fireworks illuminate them.
“…There must be something I’m missing.” She feels so CLOSE to improving her command of water, at the very least. But it’s like there’s something holding her back. And constantly pulling her attention away from what’s around her. She misses the odd looks, that she’s reading up on magic during a festival… That, or she doesn’t care about them, compared to her own studies.
(OOC: Also feel free to bring in wild cards as well! I’m flexible with all of this!)

He's just finished his own and is trying to figure out where he's supposed to get napkins from around here when he's confronted with what appears to be a girl in actual pain from eating ice cream. It seems a bit much for brain freeze. He frowns slightly.
"What kind of different quality are you talking about, exactly?"
3b
It's on the way across one of the courtyards that a splash of water against his leg distracts him from that goal. Seeing Witches practicing magic around the area isn't the least bit uncommon, but there's something about the commanding tone the woman takes that draws his attention and gets him to stop and watch the water snake across the grass.
"Sounds like the water agrees," he comments when the barely-there gurgle reaches his ears.
no subject
"I never had this trouble with it before, but that was in my own world." Still hard to believe she can work that into a conversation so casually... But what's really bothering her is the fact that ice cream of all things is difficult to eat.
She also can't help but notice this problem doesn't seem to apply to this person.
"...But you didn't have a problem with it?"
no subject
"Calm."
That's directed towards the stream. When she exhales, it does just that and forms into a pool, and Mitsuru is free to look up.
"It's still not what I'm used to. Things were... Different where I came from. A single command, at best. But this is more like a conversation, than anything else." She takes note of the damp pant leg as well, and frowns.
"...The control also isn't at the level I want it to be, either."
no subject
"Different from home seems to be the consensus around here." He's met a handful of people now who have remarked that the magic here is unlike what they practiced back in their own worlds. As for Akira, well, he wouldn't really be able to tell—he's fallen onto the monstrous end of the spectrum. It does seem to be a different beast from the magic tied to Personas, though.
Glancing down at his pants leg as well, he seems unfazed. "That's what the practice is for, right?" She seems to be catching on well, anyway.
no subject
...Right?
"Practice is why I was out here to begin with." And why she's been taking such exhaustive notes. But with the way her lips form into a tight line, her own progress isn't going fast enough. "If I may ask, what about yourself? Are you grasping the lessons here, at all?"
no subject
"Oh, I haven't been attending the lessons," Akira responds, realizing in a snap that she hasn't identified what he is yet. Understandably—his changes haven't become too out of hand just yet. The fur growth is mostly hidden by standard clothing, and his pointed ears blend easily into his hair. "Monsters can't learn magic the way Witches can."
He's supposed to have an inclination towards certain types of magic, or so he's found in researching what he is, but Akira hasn't felt anything like that just yet.
"I'm here for some other stuff."
no subject
"Ah. My apologies; I didn't realize that was the case with you." She hesitates for a moment, before adding. "I... Haven't really met someone with that condition. I've been focusing on how magic behaves."
She gestures to her own practice work, giving a soft exhale as she does so. The water ripples in response, and the motion feels almost reassuring.
no subject
Maybe it's because it's something unobtainable for him, but Akira is inwardly fascinated as he watches the water's reaction to the motion of her hand. It's completely understandable that someone could lose themselves in trying to grasp the magic of this world.
"Are you one of the ones who arrived here this month?" He doesn't recognize her from the time living in the Coven or moving day last month, so it seems like a fair assumption.
no subject
"I never imagined a mirror could enable such changes. Or that a vacation of sorts would lead to this."
'But didn't a part of you want to get away?' A thought hisses across her head. 'And now here you are, removed from the lies. And the expectations-'
She frowns, and the water seems to pick up on that distress. It seeps back into the earth, leaving the ground and grass swampy.
"...I'm still at a loss, on just what to make of this. Whether this is an advantage, a loss, or something in between."
moving in; slip and slide 1/2
Waaaauuughhhh!!! Senpai, your papers!!
2/2
So in this world of confusion and novelty, if Mitsuru is bothering to write notes, it's surely of the utmost importance that they be coveted and protected. Minako can't let them be lost like this!
She tosses aside her broom and dives to the ground, snapping up as many as she can before they can get completely soaked. But some of them have inevitably suffered water damage...and this realization has Minako getting comically teary-eyed.]
Oh nooooo...senpai...
no subject
That's the first thought that goes through Mitsuru's head, as her notes go flying. The second is picking out what sort of formulas are fluttering through the air.
She's pretty sure that she just lost most of her notes on healing. Even if she hasn't been able to grasp the lessons, it would've been good to review them and see if she can find any breakthroughs-
Mitsuru does her best to snatch up what she can, and it's only when she's gathered a few that she realizes there's someone else there.
And someone who looks like she's about to start crying. Which Mitsuru doesn't know the first thing about comforting, or addressing.
...Merde.]
"I-it's nothing to worry about."
[Too bad she doesn't sound that convincing, with how she stares at her notes.]
"A small loss. They can be replicated... And perhaps if I do, I'll understand the material a little better."
no subject
Wait, I can save this!
[And then she bolts away and up the stairs, presumably to her room. She's not gone for long, only for a minute, and then she's returning with the curious little compact communicator watches they were given in this world.]
I'll take pictures of everything [she says breathlessly] so lay it all on the table, senpai!
no subject
[A part of Mitsuru wonders if this girl realizes she has a Team Leader Voice. In fact, she has such a talent at the Voice that it leaves Mitsuru doing exactly what she says; stand there, and wait.
As she does so, the water on the floor obediently starts to recede, as Mitsuru gives a soft murmur. The last thing she wants is for Minako to skid across the floor when she runs back down.
Which she does, soon enough. And Mitsuru blinks over the compact.]
"You... You certainly think on your feet."
[She does as requested, laying the sodden pages on a nearby table; a long dining hall arrangement, which is almost filled with pages in a few moments.
The notes themselves are starting to look a bit runny and blotted, but the diagrams at least are legible, as are the symbols. In fact, it almost looks like someone transcribed a text book on magic onto paper.]
no subject
[is her distracted answer, as she starts snapping all of the pictures in what she hopes is in the correct order. Minako doesn't really know if printers exist in this world, or how one would plug into the communicator, but if nothing else they can rewrite everything from scratch.
Huh...aren't these notes from the magic classes?
She finishes up quickly, and then looks up at her senpai, blinking owlishly.]
Is that all of them?
no subject
[As she says that, she frowns over the notes. How many days has it been since she's written them down? And yet she STILL can't seem to make sense of them.]
"...Even if I can't understand the formula and theory right now, it would be good to keep the records intact. Hopefully someone will be able to use them."
[The one thing she can't abide is the idea of wasted or futile effort. Though that also makes her curious about something else. She glances over to Minako.]
"May I ask about your own studies?"
no subject
"It might be too soon to tell," he responds, a quiet lull following in which his fingers come up to pull at a lock of hair.
He's met people who seem overjoyed with their new setting and powers, as well as ones who clearly want to go back in their own worlds. As for Akira himself... well, he needs to go home, and he misses it terribly, but it would be a lie to say that everything here has been bad, that he wouldn't miss some things about the small existence he's carved out for himself in the city.
Finally, his gaze skips back to up meet hers. "We might be here for a while, so why not take your time figuring it out?"
no subject
But you're right. It's also too soon to tell, just what this situation is."
Also too soon to think she can get any mastery of these abilities. That might be the most vexing of all, knowing that she's lost all the control and command over an element that she previously had.
"...I suppose I have some loss I need to adjust to as well. Commanding an element was never a difficulty for me, before-"
She pauses at the end of that. The cautious part of her questions if that's something she should be revealing, or talking about freely. But the logical part says that here, several worlds removed, talking about Persona (and by extension the Dark Hour) is the least of her worries.
no subject
Her implication of previous magic ability doesn't really set off any alarms. He's met plenty of people who had something like that before coming through the mirrors. Still, Akira is curious, as he usually is when people mention their own worlds.
"I'm guessing water wasn't your specialty before?"
no subject
Minako does her best to hide her surprise, and then perks up.]
Oh! It's going okay. I get tired easily, so I'm not mastering spells as quickly as I'd like...but it's not too bad.
no subject
She pauses, once she realizes how that sounds.
"...Not to say that I can't be flexible. It's simply..."
Not what she's used to, compared to being cold.
"...It's a bit removed from what I know."
no subject
At least there's photographs of them now, however. And...
The frown stills for a moment, as she considers the dilemma.]
"...Provided you're not sleeping in class,"
[Which is more of an Iori thing to do, Mitsuru is certain of that much.]
"Perhaps you could... Use some additional notes?"
[She seems a little astonished to have suggested that much, once the words leave her mouth. It seems offering to share notes isn't something she's used to.]
no subject
[Minako pouts in mock-outrage. It's true though! Sometimes she gets bored, but she never falls asleep. She wonders if her other self is the kind of person to sleep in class, if Mitsuru feels like she has to mention it. Not that she would blame him. Tartarus nights are always rough no matter how good she's feeling.]
--omigosh. Senpai. Can I really?!
[Okay, forget thinking about her other self, Mitsuru's notes are so much more important?! Not that she's a terrible note taker herself. Minako is much more of a hands-on type of magic learner, though, and the magic books are pretty dense as it is. Her senpai's notes will clear things up for her, she's absolutely certain of it.]
no subject
He gives her a concerned look. Not because he thinks she's lying, but because — look, he had his tooth problems last month. He didn't enjoy them, but he also didn't torture himself by eating ice cream during them. It's possible she's just having regular human tooth problems, though. He shouldn't jump to conclusions.
He is probably going to jump to conclusions.
"The texture is the same, too. I don't think you get temperature sensitivity when you cross through the mirrors or anything. Not that I've heard of. Which means you're an anomaly, unfortunately. Unless there's anything else you've experienced that's strange."
no subject
'Gifted,' is something she's used to. Even something like 'unusual.' But anomaly is a new one; something that's never been applied to her.
Still, she's able to gather herself up again.
"Actually I've had a number of unusual things occur. A shift in powers, and-"
Odd, how she's ready to talk about the supernatural, but not any personal details. Her fingers do betray her however, with how her free hand rubs at her arm.
no subject
[Put some confidence into your voice, Kirijo. Of course, now that she's said it out loud, she can find all sorts of justifications for the idea. Never mind that it's a bit unprecedented.]
"Since the rules of magic are so different here, it makes sense for us to all have as much understanding as we can. I'd sooner see them get optimal use... And since you have copies now, it's only natural to use them."
[She waves to the device, and also lifts her head up to look around. The floors seem to be mostly dry now, which reminds her of something else.]
"By the way... Have you settled on a room in this place, yet?"
no subject
[Minako makes a promise to herself to study all of the notes as soon as possible, before perking up at the unexpected question.]
Oh yeah! It's on the second floor, right next to the stairs. It has a really nice window seat.
[Not too big or small, with a good view of the street and some of the scenery beyond-- and the fact that it's close to the stairs means that she'll have less walking to do.]
I hope we can get other people to live with us soon. Some of the rooms would be great as a communal game areas or something like that!
no subject
[Mon dieu, this is embarrassing to admit out loud, but she doesn't want to make the exact same mistakes she did in her own world. And part of that means at least trying to open up. By a small fraction, at least.]
"I elected for one of the rooms on ground level, at least for now. The stairs have been... Unusual to tackle, lately."
[That is, her feet have been feeling oddly sensitive, after needing to climb several flights of them.]
