"Less than a year," Papyrus agrees, more softly than usual.
In some ways, that could be an extraordinary amount of time. Just a day was enough time for a single human to pass through the underground, demolishing some peoples' lives and taking out the ruler of their kingdom. The months that followed were tumultuous, leading to a wholly changed monster society. But through that, his surroundings had changed, and his priorities had changed with them, but Papyrus himself had stayed the same. The way it's almost happening in reverse here, with a city that stubbornly clings to its monthly celebrations and its reluctance to really get along...
"But, you never know what might happen. Magic researchers are trying to figure out, what's pulling us all here, anyway? They might figure it out."
And then, maybe, send them all home. Or give them the option - he knows there's some happier to be here, fur and all, than wherever they'd been before.
